537 KB,
I want to run the fan with specs in pic related from a normal EU wall socket (230V).

How do I go about this? I'd say I need an adapter, anyone know what kind of adapter?

You need a power supply that-
1. has the right plug for where you are,
2. puts out 12 volts DC, and
3. puts out at least .5 amps. Preferably more. I would say to look for a ~1-amp power supply. It's not going to cost significantly more.

Also if you have not bought the fan already:
....It's been a few years since then, but once I built a nearly-silent PC. You couldn't get everything fanless back then, but most of it was.
The expensive fans didn't really sound any quieter than cheap ones, to be honest.
All the cheap fans were noisy...

What will be the practical difference between running the fan on 0,5A or 1,0A?

Thank you for your response.

Can someone here make and post me a 555 timer circuit diagram where the output is 10 volts for t seconds then polarities switched and also becomes 2 volts for 2 seconds and vice versa ad infinitum. If you do so please label the type and specs of the components that are needed

> t seconds

Meant 5 sorry
>>
>>998845
>then polarities switched
So you need the output switching between +10v and -2v? 555 pin 3 just switches back and forth from GND and VCC; it has no way to reverse voltage. You could do that by connecting it to an H-bridge, but making a virtual ground would be easier:

You will need a 12v power supply and a 2v power supply. 2V can be made from the 12v using a regulator or divider. Power your 555 with 12v and GND. For the thing you're controlling use 2V as the ground and 12v for VCC. From that thing's perspective the 555's output will be switching between -2v and +10v.

Build a standard astable 555 circuit to get the timing you want.

>Can't disclose that part.

Years ago, I had a billion dollar idea that needed a 555 timer but also was too stupid to figure out how to use one. I asked for help and lost everything. Now Facebook is a huge company and I'm still mopping the floor of my local ham radio club. Good on you for being careful.

I was going to call it FacePlace. Bastards.

I have been looking for the most energy efficient setup in RC flight. The goal is to sustain a glider in flight for the longest time possible on a single charge.

Here are some base specifications that may help
Weight (2.5-4.5lb)
Folding Propellers

1.) Voltage (3s, or 4s batteries)
2.) Propeller (Stay with recommended prop, or is there a more efficient option {decreases x traits for efficiency})
3.) Motor brands (any well known companies with higher quality magnets or products)
4.) Motor kV (which is the most efficient kV for a glider? Higher, lower,...

With solar panels + dynamic soaring you can keep flying practically forever.

With dynamic soaring you can potentially turn generate electricity if you use your propeller like a wind turbine.

The best throttle percent will depend on motor, esc, and propeller.
>>
>Learn to thermal, scrub
Failing that
>1.) Voltage (3s, or 4s batteries)
Makes little difference as long as you have the restraint to pull the throttle back on 4s
2.) Propeller (Stay with recommended prop, or is there a more efficient option {decreases x traits for efficiency})
Stick with the recommended range for your motor. Choose a prop from within that range based off the flight envelope of your plane.
3.) Motor brands (any well known companies with higher quality magnets or products)
Meh

What's up /diy/

I live in the Vegas valley and summer is slowly creeping up on us. It will be 100+ degrees in a matter of two weeks. The problem that I have is my bedroom window.

My bedroom window is huge, and directly faces the sun as it rises every morning. The heat that emanates from my window is so powerful that even on a morning like today (78 degrees) I can't touch it. This makes my room at least 5 degrees warmer than the rest of my house.

What can I do to block the heat of the sun? We've installed solar screens, but could only install...

inb4 everything, but aluminum foil, glossier side out.

I heard legends about Elvis using it on his bus, tried it myself during a fairly hot summer (I'm not in the desert, but before the climate got all fucked up we'd have a few 100+ days where I am, and humid), and between that and a window unit running maybe a couple of hours a day it was just perfect in my room.

Just one layer will block everything, cheap, reversible, nothing needed but tape for installation.

It does obviously look like...

It's funny you say that because nowhere online recommended that but I myself thought it might work. The only concern I have is safety. Not sure how, but could it be dangerous by absorbing too much heat or does it do a good job of reflecting heat?

My grandparents want new carpet, they last had it layed down in 1981. Can the tack strip be left for the next job? The room is a rectangle, so is it something I could do on my own and save her some installation costs or is it best left to the pros?
Also, whats the secret to long lasting carpet? Is it the padding, or the carpet itself? When i try to research it I just find carpet companies shilling their stuff.

I mean if the tack strip is still in good shape you could.. But why not just replace everything at once and do the job right so you don't have to redo it? But anyways as far as carpet goes, the padding underneath is where a lot of the support actually comes from. I generally don't like the attached pad style myself because for about the same price you can get a foam underlayment. Not that shitty stuff that looks like it's made of recycled cloth, like a solid foam that's made to stand up to years of walking on and not soak spills into your subfloor. As far...

My wife and I bought our house dirt cheap post crash at $140,000, and will soon list for $210,000. We're in a better spot financially as well, and are hoping to build a house in the ballpark of $250,000.

Does anyone have any experience, tips, or resources for someone in our position? We have very few particulars worked out right now, besides that I am very interested in ICF/tech blocks as an exterior envelope.

I'm just looking to get my feet wet and avoid any major pitfalls.

Is there a cheap DIY method for some sort of solar-based sea water purification system?

Have never posted on this board before, but I am considering buying a boat to live on and looking for ways to cut costs.

Im guessing the water wouldn't be best quality. Distilling would require lots of power. Pushing water through a membrane isn't very cheap.
>>
Do you mean purify like physically removing contaminants or killing bacteria and other things that will get you sick? If the latter take a clear glass jug and leave it in the sun for 6 hours and the sun will disinfect the water for you.
>>
Where will be your boat? Ocean or lake? If a lake it will be very easy to purify the water. If in the ocean taking salt out is hard.

57 KB,
hey /diy/
im interested in making a 5x5 checkerboard out of wood similar to the one in the picture to use to play tak. ive had a look and it seems the preferred method is to get alternating strips and glue them and then cut them and glue in to a square pattern. ive got jack shit tools so that might be beyond me but i was thinking i could carve it in to a block of wood? would that work? how would i stain the squares without it leaking? any advice or thoughts would be appreciated

You could burn the squares.
Or burn the edges and tape off the squares before staining. You'll need that burned Ridge or the stain WILL leak through the grain.

that's the preferred method because it's the easiest and works the best. saws don't cost much
