Hey /diy/, my landlord wants me to sell his barbecue, he just said he wants $100 for it. It hasn't been looked after at all. I gave the outside a hose down and I'm not sure if I should clean the hot plate and grill and shit before I sell it, I'll be putting it up on a facebook buy swap sell group so I doubt the people wanting to buy it would be like barbecue enthusiasts. Reckon I should just put it up 'as is'? All four burners and the heat indicator works fine, the stove top burner thing on the right of it is buggered though.

I'm just thinking...

Fuck it, a $100 is cheap for a used gas grill. AND it come with a tank of LP? I'd snatch that right up! That's a good deal...especially considering how much grills cost now days.

if you have a wire brush or some steel wool, that might work to clean it up a little, but unless you're doing it as a favor or are getting something out of it, you shouldn't be doing anything with it at all....

Are there any /dyi/stoners? Need to guiding on my quest to make a homemade bong. It's made of glass, but it looks like its 0,5-0,7cm thick.

Should I use a dremel/drill and a diamond round bit or should I try melting a hole? I got a blowtorch and butane for it, although the highest temperature I can reach with it is about 1300 degrees celsius.

Pic related; it's the vase I'm using

Why bother. Old glass milk bottle, length of 2" waste water pipe taped over the neck of the bottle. Hole in the side of the pipe with a length of hose to the bottom of the bottle with a socket in the exposed end.

You must be a tumblr grade stoner.

Heat can crack the thing specially it the glass is thick, the easiest way would be to heat a spot until it's really hot and blow from the inside, it will cause a bubble of molten glass that will pop, leaving you with a nice round hole at the side, heat again to melt the remaining of the exploded bubble.
This is a pipe I made but never used, I just wanted to see if it was possible to make a hole that way.

A diamond bit would be much slower, but the glass would be much less prone to crack.

Hello /diy/, almost total newbie here. Can anyone give me some hints to disassemble safely a microwave oven? I would like to salvage some components. Feel free to insult, though.

unplug. wait an hour. check capacitor voltage.

if the oven was made in the last 25 or so years the capacitor has an internal discharge resistor.

Avoid destroying the magnetron with a hammer, if urges are uncontrollable, at least try to avoid the pink stuff around the emitter on the boxy thing that the wires lead to.

Sup fellow DIY masters of the universe

I have an old silver knife that just came into my collection and it's pretty worn or "tarnished". I'm no professional with silver but I'm pretty sure if I just cleaned it, it would just fade back

Is there anything I can do to keep its brilliance once polished? Could I do an epoxy coating?

Hey, /diy/
I want to do a lot of stuff with shipping pallets. I want to do some flooring with them and make some cheap furniture out of it. My question is HOW do I get a hold of them? Where do you guys find them or get them from?

I tried and there was nothing near me.

find your nearest grocery store.

drive by in car #1 a few times, look for cameras behind the store. see where they are looking. often times they dont include the truck bay areas, only the enterences. you just want to make sure they arent looking at where the pallets are stacked

now get car number 2. take the plates off. drive down at 2am, throw the pallets in the trunk, drive off.
>>
>>998782
Okay, Okay. Good intensity. Its a step in the right direction, but are there any options that wont get me in trouble with the law? Paying bail on "shipping pallet theft" isnt the coolest way to go down. I could murder a man on the way there, I guess, but its not exactly what I am after. I appreciate the idea though.

Hey /diy/ how do I remove these god forsaken sticker from a book
16 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>998626
Apply light heat until the adhesive lets up. I recommend a hair dryer on low.
>>
If the above recommendation doesn't work, try sticking the book in the freezer and try to peel the sticker whilst it is very cold.

Some adhesives contract from their bonded surface in the cold. The best example I can think of are those used in envelope seals.

Worth a shot.

Extract 4 metric hexheads which have been filed over / peened over through use.

What I have:
metric & imperial allen keys,
shifting wrenches (key lengtheners)
screw drivers (potential sacrificial chisels)
WD-40 / 3-in-1
a grossly inadequate woodworking "vice"
one automatic centrepunch
hand files
cynoacrylate glue

What I don't have:
HSS drillbits / hand drill
Welding equipment
punches / coldchisels
dremel
epoxy

(yes I checked the catalogue before posting an extraction thread)

interior shot:

the silver outer plate is sacrificial, but the internal screw threads aren't. And I suspect that the plate and threads are more powerful than the shoe (which is also non-sacrificial).

To me it totally looks like you could clean that out with a pick and take it off with a regular allen wrench.

Put it in vice.
Spray with wd40 to appease machine spirits.
Clean the shit out of the hex head. Take hex tool of correct size. Hammer, literally with a hammer, tap it into the socket. Unscrew
Those don't look that bad at all.

Hey bros, checkout my idea for an app I came up with:

An app/website that’ll help you decorate your room/house to any style of living that you're seeking. The user would simply take a few pictures of the room (perhaps a picture in each corner of the room), and the app would then suggest where furniture you’d need and where it should be placed, for superior comfortability.

Upon taking pictures of the room, the users would select which theme they’re is looking for, and once selected the app will provide a variety of suggestions in what you'll need,...

I suggest you go buy a pair of large adjustable pliers. You will find many uses for them later throughout your life.

So I was helping my parent's clean out a shed that isn't used as much and I found an old cabinet toolbox that I had never seen before and when I asked my dad about it he said it was his dads who gave it to me and that he was planning on giving it to me when I finished college but that I could have it now and take it back up this fall. Anyway it's twice as old as I am and has some surface rust and lots of scratches and minor repairs that need done.
