>I'm new to electronics, where do I get started?
There are several good books and YouTube channels that are commonly recommended for beginners and those wanting to learn more, many with advanced techniques. The best way to get involved in electronics is just to make stuff. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty.

I gotta wind myself some RF coils.
Should I put the secondary winding next to or ontop of the primary winding?
>>

Bifilar winding is better, so the B. It removes self inductance quite well, and in transformers will remove magnetic flux.

If you wanna know more search about bifilar coils, I only just about got the grasp of how they're used.

Hey /diy/, I am making a mask dedicated to both my youtube channel and 4chan. I am going to do it entirely off from whatever I remembered back from 4th grade art class. Could you please let me know of any dos and don't when making the mask. I will make the mask the entire way through on this thread. Hope you enjoy.

61 KB,
So I have a 31 x 21 foot shed on 10 acres. I want to do something as a personal business in the shed or maybe with the 10 acres to make a living. I was thinking of raising goats and maybe doing wood working. Any other ideas on how I could make some money with the property for a personal business? Id prefer it if I could work from the property.

Bees!! 100 lbs of honey a year per hive.
Grow and sell cut flowers if you can set up a farm stand.
Goats are great especially paired with bees, candles, soap etc.
Whatever you do diversify your crops and income as much as you can so when one project fails another is still kicking.
Before anything I really recommend "The One Straw Revolution" By Masanobu Fukoaka. It's a short read that got me into permaculture and really makes you think about simple farming practices.

I want to build an autonomous robot - really imaginative, i know.
I bought a broken down rc car and and will replace most electronics and add some sensors and other fun stuff to it.
In theory i should be able to do most of this, but i'm currently struggeling with a system to read the current position - as i don't want to control it myself with a controller.
My first thought was gps, which turned out to be too inaccurate. I just learned about differential gps which might just do the trick, but i'd need some more setup and i don't want any other electronics...

Nigger just use the strength. And you'd need four for three dimensional "triangulation". You also need a reference value, like the distance between known wifi points. Linear algebra, have fun.

Same with the GPS, you don't use the GPS, you would use the average for an individual GPS across many measurements, and use those for "triangulation".

If you ask around the arduino or raspberry pi programming/hardware forums, you could probably find someone who knows how to get raw wifi signal...

>just use the strength
That might be a good idea outside but even if i'd measure accurate enought i'd expect heavy fluctuations of fieldstrength due to multipath fading and random shit that stands everywhere.
Considering the raspi stuff - i tried to avoid using this, but if i end up using graphical interpretation i'll probably use one anyways.

SLAM, typically with a scanning laser range finder. A kinect will do.

If you really want to do wifi localization you need a special wifi chip that supports channel strength information at a high rate. See more here:
http://dhalperi.github.io/linux-80211n-csitool/

SLAM using lidar performs better though

The missile knows where it is because it has really fucking accurate laser ring gyros. Some missiles also figure out where they are by look at pictures of the ground and comparing them with a maps database.

What do you know about the masonry trade?

For example, I'm looking around at the prices of reclaimed stones; caps, quoins, coping, general ornamental architectural stone. And it seems to be very high, for example the pictures cap stones cost 650£ per pair, and are dimensioned at 70*70 cm bases roughly and 45cm in height. Now these are old and carved stones, so that's a fair bit of money.

However if any of you know about this, what is the value based on? For example, it's clear to me that cut stone is far more valuable than cast concrete, is that...

Some stone around here goes for a huge premium because the quarry it it was sourced from has closed so there's no other way to get the exact same stone for historical restorations.

>>
>>1009608
I'm guessing that it is some sort of combines weight and fuel filter to keep the fuel line down in the fuel as you move the machine around, but like I said this is a guess.

Have you tried googling for a diagram of your make and model of machine, it might let you know what it is.

Hey /diy, I come seeking your wisdom on what is likely a very basic 'problem'. Hope you can help!

I have 5UV LEDs in series and a 3v motor (for a fan) and a Push-Hold switch. Power is 9vDC.
My issue is that I can't get both the LEDs and motor to work simultaneously with LEDs at a reasonable illumination.
I reckon the current demand from the motor is too high. I have tried varying the resistance as I don't mind if the motor runs at fewer rpms but the LEDs do not light up sufficiently.
I am now playing with some transistors to see but I feel...

Voltage drop per LED should be around 3V for UV

You might need more voltage mate
>>
Wire them in parallel you git. 12v = 1 motor || 4-5LEDs or 3LEDs + resistor if you're worried about avalanche
>>
>>1009582
Tip here is that the same current goes through leds and this motor. LED will burn if you apply more than 20mA (it depends on led power, but i assume you are using small ones). On the other hand typical motor needs more than 20mA.
You'd better make it parallel (motor in one branch and leds in another)

My cat has been peeing in this spot in the litter box. It used to clump pretty good when she'd pee anywhere in the box (nice tight clumps that I could easily scoop out), but now that it's warmed up and she's drinking more water, she pees more often and I guess it doesn't have time to dry/clump so it stays this moist, sticky mass that's really hard and messy to remove. I've basically had to tip all the dry litter to the other end of the...

For one you don't have enough litter in there. Second is that you're not going to keep the cat from peeing there. That's its pee spot. You're going to have to clean it more often, that's all. I have 3 cats and 3 litter boxes. They all piss in a certain corner of the box. Damn near break the scoop digging out their piss mud. Cleaning every other day helps.

Protip: when you do major clean outs spray the fucker down with white vinegar and let it sit. It will kill that ammonia smell. Then...

Hey /diy/
I'm going to build a kinky 4 post bed, strong enough to suspend gf from canopy.

I'm going to use 100x100 for the posts and 250x50 for the base side skirting, but I'm wondering about the base joints.
I want the bed to be as solid as possible, so I'm thinking of using either a mortise and tenon or a three piece lap joint (I want the posts to be one piece the whole way.

For the Canopy I'm sorted, going to use three piece lap joints for the corners, and lap joints for the slats.

Anyone have any ideas or experince making...

You sound like you're almost set.

While I haven't built a bed frame such as this, do pay attention to the orientation of joints as the load bearing points may be more susceptible to shear instead of compressing the main posts.

Another consideration is transport and disassembly, should you renovate or whatever, you might need to move the bed. Needing ten men to lift and place the canopy might just make life a little harder, especially if it's close to the ceiling. Consider locking mechanisms for the joints as well, say large dowels for, say, bridle...

What would you suggest to a total novice who wants to get into electronics? I have a few ideas I'd like to build (e.g an auto-tracking drone that uses a GoPro, like the HEXO), but I don't know where to start and what to look at. I'm primarily interested in:

Developing the software that runs these electronics (e.g. using the camera's live video feed, to auto-track the subject)

The software needed to control them, which probably falls under app design as the...
