New fag to /diy/ searched and couldn't find anything in the catalogue related to machining, cnc, cad, milling, or lathe. Looking for some info on building my own CNC mill and lathe. 3 axis minimum for the mill is a must. Workspace needed is 1m-1m-0.3m / 36"-36"-12' maximum
I'm looking to work with aluminum and wood, occasionally small steel parts, but it doesn't need to run fast. I'd like to do this as cheap as reasonably possible to achieve 0.005" / 0.127mm accuracy. I'm happy to splurge a bit on ball screws... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
1.) What is your current tooling like? Do you already have a workshop reasonably full of tools, or are you stuck with a handful of manual equipment and a jigsaw?
2.) What is your budget? "Cheap as possible" is relative; the one I built has similar-ish work volume to what you want and was much cheaper than a commercial equivalent, but it still ended up totaling around $2000.
Everything looks reasonable at least, and Chinese ballscrews should be able to manage around 0.1mm or better in... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>1012576 Current tooling is literally nothing. I've got a decent set of basic mechanic tools from when I had worked as a dealership mechanic before getting back into IT, so some air tools, cordless ryobishit drill, hand tools. I do have access to my father in laws tools, one of which is a jigsaw, but his is mostly carpentry stuff and painter stuff. Budget would be preferably under $3k I'm not going to be ready soon, I've got a year to save for it at least, most likely a year and a half. But if I hit... Comment too long. Hello everyone, i'm an underachiever and cannot keep focused on work i have to do unless my life depends on it. The thing is the most important orals in my life are coming up and i need something to force me to work for hours per day: i know i dont have the will to do so and need to be restrained. So i had this idea:
i'd like to build an electrified bracelet, also featuring a timer and a buzzer, that would be plugged at some at-port device (near my desk) and would produce a loud sound and small (but unpleasant) shocks to my arm when unplugged, so that walking... >>1012368 i know right... i need to make it distraction proof so i don't plan on putting any emergency takeoff system. Should be safe enough if the voltage of the battery is too low to cause damage, right ? I thought so... to counter that fact i was planning on putting a simple but constantly electrified lock, or make the buzzer go off at its loudest if the lock is illegally opened. this should be doable right ?
I have this old Bose boombox that sounds better than anything I've ever heard for its footprint (Bose AW-1). So I still use it by hooking it up to my phone with the aux jacks in the back. Works great in my bedroom.
Problem is my Kill-a-watt tells me that the boombox consumes a steady 40 watts when it is turned on, even when it's not playing anything. So I always have to remind myself to flip the power to off when I'm done with it. If it sucked only a few watts while idling I wouldn't mind leaving it on all the time. Are there any mods I can do to reduce... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
This has been bothering me for way too fucking long. You see this megaman light capsule? I've been trying to figure what exactly is projecting Dr. Light onto the glass.
I would assume it is either a hacked pico projector with a rapsberry pi, smart phone or some sort of LCD screen projected with a backlight given its 6" by 6" size, but the form factor is really throwing me off.
At this point, I'm not entirely sure if this entire thing is just video magic since the hologram looks really crisp and the top seems... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

It depends on what is probably clogging the drain. The proper time to do something is when the drain begins to empty slowly, and don't wait until it's totally clogged.
My issue is usually cooking grease, even tho I don't pour any down the drain. It still builds up like once a year or so. When the drain starts to go slow, what I do is run hot water for ~2 minutes, and then while the hot water is running, pour about 1/4th to 1/2 of a... Comment too long. >>1010908 it's all in a closed off area so I wasn't too worried about insulation, no kids are gonna be able to mess with it. was just going to try it as is for now and see about improvements later. still not sure how well it's going to work.
Last year the people next to us had some tripod shit and had it roped and staked into the ground. This one is 20' tall and like 2" OD. It came with a plastic sleeve that goes in the ground. Anyways, how would I go about using ropes... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Afternoon gents. I want to make a climbing wall in my room, probably something like pic related. Any do's and dont's? Most I see are made from plywood, any advantage to using something heavier like mdf?
>>1009098 No, not for fun. Because I'm lazy. I have at least 20 projects from tiling to a multi rotor build in progress. My kitchen is 80% done, and has been so for 3 weeks. My truck has a shit ton of stuff that needs done, but I dont have time. I have a pile of bathroom remodeling stuff to do, and haven't even started. Fuck my life. I work about 50 hours a week, have 2 kids, and my bills total about 1800 with my final amount left being about 200. My wife makes 2 grand a month, but she's addicted to spending... Comment too long.
