How can I make my own barbell weights at home?

I was thinking of using cement but I don't have a mixer or a respirator etc.

Well, cement would work. But a thing to consider with using cement is that it's a brittle material.

If you were to say, drop the weight, there's a good chance that it might crack in half.
Obviously you can mitigate that issue by building around a rebar frame and using various fibers or additives in the mix.

Also, you really don't need a cement mixer or a respirator.
It's obviously not that great to breathe in but do consider that you'll be working with wet cement for basically the entire duration of the procedure and if you're...

Yea and my home gym floor is stone so it'd be cool to make rubber bumper plates like in my pic

Is there some kind of rubber substance I can like pour into a plate shaped mold and air dry to harden?
>>

Perhaps this might be a good way of doing it?

Pour a cement weight then coat it in Urethane?

60 KB,
I'm about to receive my first NFC stickers, do you guys use them? Let's post our usages

I'm going to use them with my phone and tasker to automate all sort of stuff, like turning my wifi off with a sticker on my door, silence my phone at work and other similar stuff.

Technically I could do anything that could be done with a phone and tasker so I'm looking for interesting creative usages, got anything?

Though I was fortunate in that Craftsman probably foresaw people doing this, and decided to make the recess fit 1/4" MDF exactly.

You just need to glue on a piece of scrap to "cradle" the kerf on both ends. This will greatly improve the durability of the insert. Doesn't need to be perfect. You just need to know that the kerf will not completely penetrate either end of the support piece.

Easy to batch out from one long strip of MDF. Use scraps for the kerf support.

Though I had to take off the fence to put it on, the kerf makes it really easy to square the fence super accurately.. Just stick stuff in it then butt it up against a square.

I have about a pound of BBs. My friend used them as weights to make a Christmas present seem heavier than it was, but it was ultimately a gag gift at my expense.

What is the most diabolical thing I can make with these BBs? I don't want to just throw them in his bed, I want to make something he has to keep and remember by it how much I love to hate him.

get a good high-powered BB gun (CO2 powered). Get him drunk and get him to moon something. Fire a bunch into his ass cheeks when he's exposed.

You might get lucky with one that gets stuck under his ass skin, and will be with him for a while.

Hey /diy/,
I am trying to build the smallest ping pong launcher robot. I thought i could use co2 canisters but i am not sure how to use it properly. Is it feasible to use co2 canisters for My objective? What do i need to use for connections and selenoid valves? How can i connect the cartridge to the system since it requires to be opened by puncturing?
Thanks alot. Any keyword or another approach is very well welcomed.

You can try a bb gun magazine. It has a built in push valve. And an easy way of installing the co2 cartridge. You would only need a way to push on the valve to release the co2
>>
>>909886
You don't know what you're doing or enough to do this safely. You'll get hurt or hurt others by pursuing this project.

C02 cartridges have a vapor pressure of 850 psi at 70 degrees. You'll need a regulator and high pressure connections.
You don't know enough.

Is it possible for a resistor to fail closed?
13 replies and 2 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>909526
anything is possible op
but improbable

if it fails due to heat then resistance will increase as it heats up then usually the film/wire catches fire and goes open circuit

if the failure mode is due to being dipped in hot solder for example then it could fail short circuit
>>
>>909526
Dunno about a "real" short, but sometimes massive overvoltages can reduce the resistance several orders of magnitude.
>>
Yep.

Source: twice in the last week (although to be fair it was the same fault on two identical boards).

Overheating seems to be a key element to it happening, green pcb had turned a nice caramel colour underneath.

What types of places will sell small quantities of steel for diy projects?
I'm looking for about 4 feet of 8'' wide c channel steel. I've called a few small fab shops that don't have any and industrial supply places that will only sell me a 20' section

Welcome to the world of people who like to do industrial crap for a hobby. I'm lucky enough to live near a metal yard that caters to anyone who walks in. You pay a bit of a premium for small pieces (in the form of cutting fees), but not too bad.

Look around and see if you can find any such place near you. If not, yeah, you're kind of stuck asking people/businesses who themselves would be using it.
>>
discountsteel. They'll sell you any length you want. They will charge you a cut fee and if you're not local, shipping which won't be cheap.
