TL;DR: advice on laptop stands.
So I got myself a Precor elliptical recently and it came with a 12" screen set up (PVS) that totally blows. It's an old lcd screen with only a coaxial and RCA inputs and for some reason, this shit costs hundreds of dollars. Seriously, look it up. It's absurd.
Anyway, I de-installed the whole screen setup and wondering what I could do to get a laptop setup going.
It's got this nice sturdy steel mounting bar with the standard 4-screw square.
I saw this video showing how to fabricate a tray out...

Quick dumb question for you guys, /g/ was no help, so i guess qtdntoa thread. I found this wireless charger for my galaxy s10.5, but I want to still be able to plug other things into the usb port. My cable soldering chi is strong, is there a plug I can swap out on it that has a female port on the back to allow things to plug into the tab through it, like a bypass or something? Charger is here:
http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Wireless-Charging-Micro-USB-narrow-interface/dp/B00JQ4YWVE/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1420055644&sr=8-12&keywords=usb+qi+receiver

just make a microusb splitter with 1 male and 2 female ends. only tie the positive and negative from one (the charg port) into the bundle.
Or you could remove the micro usb from the charging case, and then drill a hole in the side of your phone.. find a filtered spot on the 5v input, and find a ground and tap into them and just wire your case directly to your phone leaving the usb port completely free.
or you could stop being a hipster faggot and charge your phone like a normal person.
Im sure one...

I am building a little and cheap anemometer mainly from scrap parts (pic related). The center is just a random plastic cap, the cups are made of ping-pong balls and the sticks are from a plastic model kit. I am planning to use an old 2½" hard disk drive spindle motor as a pulse output sensor.
Are there any formulæ for estimating the rotational speed vs. wind speed for a 3-cup anemometer of given dimensions? Only information that I've found deal mostly with topics like aerodynamics but the mathematics in those scientific papers is quite involving.
>>945193
IF you can get your hands on a decent properly working one you can run a side by side comparison and than calibrate it. That's how most stuff is calibrated
>>945194
And how the stuff i used for callibration got calibrated?
I mean, what is the absolute method for calibration?
>>945193
you should be able to convert speed of the cups to rotation speed with some maths, very simple.
the point of an analmometer is that its light and very very low torque so it should spin at the speed of the wind.
if you want to calibrate it i would suggest a wind tunnel. they have fancy sensors which find pressure differences like pitot tubes
So I'm looking for something like pic related for a prop build.
Catch is, it will be flashing up a section of side-lit fiberoptic cable, and it needs to be really damn bright to show up on camera.
My mini maglite would be just barely bright enough.
So I'm looking for good vendors for rave toys and the like, and/or a recommendation for a blinky that is extremely bright!
>>944829
The brightest you can get with that size is a 1 watt ultra-brite LED, and even they're quite big. They are also probably dimmer than your maglite.
>>944838
Any chance you could point me to a source? I'll take what I can get.
I should also say, I can chop in a new power supply (maybe as large as a couple AA batteries). I just don't know how to make a tiny little blinker circuit like that. The light source itself has to be pretty compact though.
ws2812 or apa102 strips are bright as fuck!
Hi,
I'm looking to design a new gear set for my rally car transmission. Does anyone have any experience with the calculations of the gears?
I'd love some tips.
The final assembly will be modelled in autodesk inventor.
Pic somewhat related.
It is basic shit. What do you understand already?
Do you understand how gear ratios work to give the input's power source more or less leverage over what the power is being applied to?
Also you need to consider final drive, which is another gear and your wheel size.
>>944083
do you even have a dyno of your shitbox?
>>944097
Basically i don't know shit about this. I'm looking for less powerdrop between gears, high accelleration and low top speed.
I'm planning on making a hope chest with a false bottom. I want it to be concealed as best as possible. I was considering hinges on the underside. What would y'all suggest?
I'm a fan of spy movies such as James Bond and I just want a cool chest that I hand made myself. It doesn't have to be secured.
No need to be complicated
>>943837
Forgot pic....
>>943841
I didn't have a picture to go off. I didn't want to just put a random one up in case someone had a better idea. Thanks for the reference point though. I'm sure everyone knows what I was talking about now. Thank you.
So, I'm thinking of trying to make my own keychain tool, just for funsies, and also because the pocket tool industry tries way too hard to make tools with 900 functions.
I designed pic related to occasionally tighten screws, and open bottles, which is all I ever want a pocket tool to do. For all other cases, I go fetch a real tool.
Has anyone else done this? What tool can I use to hack this out of an old sawblade?
>>945115
Angle grinder or dremel.
I could think of a few other ways, but, if you have to ask, you're almost certainly not going to have any other means to cut through steel that hard.
>>945116
My expectation was that I'd have to use something abrasive. I wish I had access to a CNC plasma cutter or an EDM machine :(
I guess I was wondering if there was something like a jewler's saw with an abrasive blade for the fiddly little bits.
Make it Vibrate and it can function as a Sex toy as'well. Each individual piece can double as its sexual counterpart. e.g. Bottle opener, Clit Opener. Just wrap and fap.
For under $200, what do you guys recommend for an air compressor that needs to run a nail gun, and occasionally take tires off.
Virtually any air compressor will run a nailgun. They're about the lowest-consumption air tools you can get. I mean, a tiny pancake compressor might have issue with you using framing nailer like a madman, but, short of that, it doesn't matter all that much.
That's assuming you're only going to use it occasionally, though. If you're using it for heavy nailing on the regular, you might want to look into something larger. For smaller nailers or infrequent work, anything will work.
I'll admit I have no idea exactly what you mean by "take...

>I'll admit I have no idea exactly what you mean by "take tires off", because I have no idea how you'd use an air compressor for that, exactly.
I think OP might want to run an impact gun. For that he'll need a compressor with enough psi to run the impact.
>>945125
Correct. Didn't realise we were in 5th grade here.
I really like the idea of a pancake compressor for portability, but am not sure it has the assignment to pull the lugs off of a wheel, let alone put them back on.
Hey I need some help. Tried looking on Google for this but found nothing really. I just got this playing card lighter and when you light it, lights come on. So I thought, simple enough, I'll just take out the batteries. And when I did some small parts came loose. Dies anyone where to go from here? I have no idea where to start...
Please help!
>>943912
the flat metal piece on the left fits over the piezoelectric igniter (black part). the folded square cap goes over the right hand square part and the tail pushes against the flat metal plate in the middle of the card to release the gas
thats all i got for you.
Any thoughts on removing a baked on ceramic label from glass? This is not screenprinting, I have tried vinegar soaking and methylene chloride based paint stripper to no success, and they've worked on everything else glass I've reclaimed so far. My intention is to re-use in home brewing.
steam?

Gera?
Try moving up from mek to straight acetone and a paint scraper. That aerosol premium strip is pretty solid too, but it will give you chemical burns and melt through latex with the quickness.
Hey guys, removing the read lip of my desk to mount a monitor arm and I've come up against a road block. Pic related.
Any ideas?
Looks like staples.
rear lip*
>>945173
I'm kind of confused at what I'm seeing here. Is that a leg in the center? What exactly is the road block? You don't know how to take the staples out?
>>945173
why dont you post a pic of the desk and where you are goign to mount it instead of a pic underneath where its hard to tell what you are doing and what you want to do
shit son
hi im trying to fit my new g29 racing wheel on this desk but it doesnt get a secure fit because of the edge of my desk, what can i do ?
heres what the clamps and general underside looks like
>>945096
Use an ironing board instead:
- adjustable height
- pedals fit underneath
- rigid because triangle section
>>945096
drill holes in the desk to utilize the front mounting holes of the G29
This is an old shower drain in the basement that I don't plan on using. I had a water problem at one point which is now fixed, and water would pool up in that divot. I was originally intending to take it out, so I drilled the hole into the pipe for water too drain into it. Now I'm not taking the pipe out and I want to cap it with a clean out cap. What would be the best way to seal up that hole in the pvc without chiseling out enough cement to slip on a coupling to cover it? I don't expect it to ever back up, but just in case it would be better if the hole were waterproofed.
>>944609
That should be enough room fairly easily to throw a coupling on.
>>944609
I am sure the clean out will fit right over it.
what you have to check is if it completely covers the hole you drilled.
The coupling doesn't fit down far enough without having to chisel out some cement and the clean out doesn't cover it either.
Whats the harm in reheating plastic microwave dinner containers?
If it survived the first time you microwaved it, whats the harm in cleaning it and re-using it as a container?
Surely these things don't become toxic or dangerous after just one go in the microwave
>>941717
They degrade in heat and in contact with liquid and other acids in the food, thus releasing chemicals you don't want into the food inside
In simple terms, they are meant to be disposables for one time use only, also, don't be so poorman about a fucking microwave food container

Hey Tom!

>>941717
They are toxic to start with.
Storing food in plastic with softeners and flame retardants is always a margin game. The stuff seeps into the food and the only reason it isn't considered poisonous is dose per serving. But many of those components are bioaccumulative. So if you have TV dinners every night for 10 years then your blood work will show the chemicals.
Heating up synthetics makes their inclusions much more mobile. Add acids and bases from foods and it gets really interesting.

Hi guys i wan create my own guitar pedals effect,
some one got some experience?
>>942964
oh, this thread again.
Internet ist full of sites for diy pedals, but nvm...
if you want to clone just a pedal, use google for the schematic. if you want to modify a pedal, youre welcome.
if you really want to create a new pedal, lets go - thats the real stuff.
i guess you got all the tools and the skills (soldering etc.) too.
my first own - created pedal was a digital lowfi one; i took a vocoder - ic in dip-housing, created a buffer, soldered all together and voila.

I've made a fair bunch of pedals, but nothing like that.
can you name the IC?
sounds fun.
>>943538
IC is HT895.
