Posting for this for the third time today, luckily i think i've got the right board this time (didn't even know you guys existed)

Can someone good with volatges/electric know-how give me some advice on my solar setup?

Im getting a solar setup going for a small runabout boat, and I want to know if im in the right ballpark for voltage etc etc.

>20 amp hour deep cycle 12v battery

>408 watt motor
>20 amp hour battery 20*12=240watt. (Briefly, not actually for an hour.)
>50W peak output.

290w of power at your peak solar and peak battery, and that falls off to almost nothing after the battery is dead. That's not even full power of your 408 watt motor. You won't be able to charge and move with it, you could spend 4 hours in peak sun charging the battery, and then get an hour of movement at half power.

its a 20AH battery; it can run at 240W actually for an hour

Okay simple question does this battery need to be removed asap. cause I think its starting to leak acid, and that can damage vintage motherboards

and after I desoldered it , how can I clean up the board and prevent any damage in near future, also will a 386pc work ok without this battery

Yep. Need to be replaced asap. Just solder a new batterie between the joints. Also clean the pcb with Isopropyl alcohol (also asap).

Pic related: a brand new batterieholder. Also avaliable for vertical holding.

Are there any good documentaries or TV shows or anything that can actually teach you about tools and how to make things?

I'm starting to get into DIY as a hobby but I am still a huge novice and im just trying to absorb as much through osmosis as possible. I usually sit and watch a tv for 20 minutes every morning as I shovel food into my face and drink coffee. Might as well try to learn something while I do.

Ever heard of "how it's made?" It was a short lived show about how different things are made. Kyaks, guns, cd-roms, cheese, candy, tires, toilets, etc.

I think there were only 20 seasons or so.

hey /diy/, I'm making a guitar from a kit I bought and I thought it would be cool to do a lichtenberg figure on it. The process involves coating the outside with a mixture of water and baking soda and I was wondering how long I should wait for it to dry before I start staining and poly coating it?

The wood is mahogany and I have no idea how long it will take to dry. I've had it sitting in front of a fan for about 2 days. I just don't want the stain to get fucked up or it to start warping from residual moisture later on, it did soak up a decent amount of...

But honestly a few days maybe, what kind of humidity/temps are we talking about?
>>
>>949112
You might consider throwing it in a trash bag with a container of damp rid. Just don't let any of the desiccant touch the wood, but sealing the guitar and the open container of damp rid in a bag for a day or two should dry it right out.

Has anyone here sewn their own jeans?
Is it hard to tailor and sew good fitting jeans?

I'm sick of buying expensive pants just to wear out the crotch 3 months later.
And finding a pair that fits my ass good is near impossible.

I would suggest starting with more material around your waist. Probably closer to 42.
>>

If you jeans are wearing out after 3 months it isn't the quality but the excess stress you're putting them under. Maybe you should wear the correct clothing for the job you are undertaking.
>>

I wonder what the hell OP does to wear out the crotch in 3 months.

Anyone build an outdoor climbing wall?

I've sketched out a plan for a multipurpose campus board/dyno wall. I need a certain amount of texture for shoe grip on the flat surfaces and need advice on what to use.

Textured latex paint doesn't seem rugged enough. Any ideas?

concrete texture stamp

1. build structure out of wood
2. cover climbing side in hardware cloth
3. trowel on concrete
4. use texture stamp

Should look into that anti-skid grit they add to floor paint. That stuff stands up to alot of wear.

Any recommendations?

Wooden as in fancy or "I don't care, it needs to work!" You'd only need a bit of space inside a wooden box for cooling. The rest is up to you and your available tools.

A modified mini atx case would look smart.

I backed into my garage at a angle and hit one of the posts holding the frame of the door to the wall. Garage door still opens and closes fine.

Can I use lag screws to pull it closer together and cement to seal it? Not shown but there's another long screw connecting them.

Hard to tell but there's a wood "block" embedded in the cement that the original was drilled into. Tried kicking it back together and smacking it with a hammer.
>>
>>950166
you need to remember newtons laws, for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction.
therefore, since the damage was done by backing the car into it at an angle, the only option to fix it is to back you car into it at an opposite yet adjacent angel.
Since you altered the situation by kicking and hammering it you need to estimate the amount of change you created.
Id estimate it to be 5%, so my advice to you would be to back into it only 95% as hard as the first impact at the correct angle.

probably a half round alum cutting file

i specify alum cutting because the scoops on them have better clearances for sticky materials such as aluminium

You could heat the outer tube up then push the inner tube in to it. Unless you need them to slide of course.

Rat tail file would be the cheapest

Hi /DIY/ I am starting to make a career out of welding and was wondering if you guys have any general tips and tricks to any part of the trade. I am currently have a bit of trouble with 6010 rods and running root passes on open groove cuts, would really appreciate any advice.

Are you dragging or whipping and pausing?
>>
>>947849
Whipping and pausing, I don't have much trouble in the flat position mainly just vertical and overhead.
>>
On the vertical watch your rod tip-- keep it even - do not let it fingernail. Vertical is the toughest to get consistent at because of the lack of vision on the puddle. Pay attention to the sound your rod makes. As for overhead, it should be just like flat with 6010. Watch your heat.

Got any idea how to construct a dreamachine without the turntable? I just need something to fit the paper cylinder to that will spin at 78 rpms. Old turntables that spin 78's can be hard to come by, so I think an even more D.I.Y. approach is necessary.

you need mass. egg crate and that won't help.

you need a solid core door. if your door is a cheap hollow shit, you have to replace it.

then add some adhesive-backed rubber stripping around the jamb. pile pillows in front of the crack at the floor.

>>949816

I'm 22 and living at home with parents for college. So I can't do anything to the door. So I was thinking some way to block the gaps around the edges or something. I put a blanket on the bottom, I'll do a pillow now.

push a book shelf in front of the door. fill with books.

hope you can exit the window in event of fire.
