Hey! Just to explain the reasoning, it was mostly to fit with that pulpy (like you said), grimy feel that you might find in something like Tales from the Crypt. Plus, porn often revels in overblown stereotypes, so I figured it fit for a story set in the world of porn to reflect that. Don jumps from one to another.

I know my taste is in the extreme minority here, but I'd do incredible things for a story with these qualities, in order of importance:
-The character who becomes female does absolutely nothing sexual or romantic with men. If men become attracted to him in his new form, he doesn't get all flustered about it, he just turns them down as easily as a man turning down gay men.
-The main character does lewd things with at least one woman, and said woman/women knows that the character used to be male.
-No mind changes at-fucking-all. If the character was exclusively attracted to females before, the character should remain exclusively attracted to females afterward. None of this "He has a vagina now, so he simply MUST develop cocklust!" bullshit that pretends lesbians simply don't exist.

Other than that, I would say that I have a thing for multiple transformations. Hell, this is the reason that I dont like to feature other males on my comics besides the ones that get TGed. I can hardly writte a story without wantig to TG more than one character on it.
Bonus points if you have different kinds of personalitty and bodies. I need some diversity on my porn, and there are numerous ways that a girl can be hot. Identity Death is pretty horrifying. It turns "erotic" stories into murder/horror shows. Plus, it makes the whole thing a shaggy dog person. It's not a transformation but a substitution, and if the person remembers nothing, then what's the point?
I DO love mental changes, though. Slow, maybe even insidious changes that alter how the character think. Watching characters struggle against these changes, and eventually coming to terms or embracing them, makes me hard as diamonds. I've got a thing for hypnosis, so maybe that's why. Some things I agree with, some things I don't.
I prefer gradual transformations because I have a hard on for "realism" and the amount of energy required to transform someones body into something else immediately would basically cook or vaporize them... that and I like things like body horror and how various people depict a gradual transformation.
In fact I'm working on one where the first thing to change is the genitals (writefag here), leaving the rest "normal" for a while. I think it's a novel approach because most of the time it's this gradual thing where the whole body shifts but usually the no-no zone is the last to say goodbye.

I think the problem with that is, if you're writing a story, that sort of scenario undercuts any tension or conflict. If there's no conflict or catch to the deal, there's no stakes. If the conflict came from outside (like, the mc is trying to solve the case or catch a crook or win the dance), you could do that, but then you're kind of sidelining the TG aspect of the story a bit.
Plus, I'm guessing a lot of TG authors and readers have little interest in getting the character back to their original body.
It would be an interesting thing to try and write, though, at least as an experiment.

I had a story synopsis idea that I was going to write similar to this but never got around to it.
Basically, two scientists have a revolutionary breakthrough in nanomachine technology that allows them to rapidly alter an organism's DNA. Cure disease, reverse aging. Height gain, weight loss. Muscle gain. Superhuman abilities.
An illuminati-esque organization is after them as a result of this, and they're the only ones with the nanotechnology. They decide to fake their deaths by changing their bodies completely and living for several years until the dust has settled, then reveal their discoveries to the world.
This is written entirely as a flashback in the style of a scientists' log. Very descriptive. One of the scientists, an older, more jaded guy, and kind of a pervert, becomes very enamored by the possibilities and abuses it pretty heavily. There's plenty of ways you can introduce conflict into a story about someone becoming a girl voluntarily. How do they become a girl in the first place? Is it something they have to work to seek out? Even if they want to be a girl, how sure are they? Does becoming a girl make them question themselves further? Do other people accept them as girls? What do they have to do differently to live their life as a girl?
Of course the opposite approach to ignore narrative entirely. Plot is nice and all, but there's no shame in just saying "here's a transformation sequence, and then they lived happily ever after." Sometimes TG is just porn, and porn doesn't need conflict, just show the audience what they came to see. And even if you want to write something with more sophistication than just porn, narrative fiction is not the only kind of writing around. Writing effective imagery is a skill too.

More generally, I think the principle should be to only change things you have to change for the purposes of your story. Of course how much you "have" to change is subjective: if you WANT to turn the person into a cock-hungry nymphomaniac then go ahead and do that. But if all you're doing is trying to avoid giving the character gender dysphoria, then all you should is make the mind just female enough to not experience dysphoria, and leave them otherwise the same. There's nothing unnatural about having someone not experience dysphoria but still with all the same sexual preferences and interests as before.

The thing is, the "shape" of the brain influences everything. Your personality, your memories, all of it is rooted in neurological factors. In order for you still be "the same person" while the rest of your body changes, your brain has to stay somewhat constant. Although there are some significant anatomical differences between the female brain and the male brain (and yes, sexuality is connected with those) it's not like you can just flip a switch and switch the brain into girl mode, even with unrealistically magic technology. It's ultimately a lot of little neurological differences.
But I mean yeah, whatever it's all very magical and bullshit anyway so it's up to the author, I just don't think science really makes your option the default. The easiest way to deal with this problem "scientifically" is to just make the character kind of trans to begin with so you don't have to change the mind at all, although that brings baggage not everyone wants in their story.

All of that feels more potent and urgent if the character is prevented from just switching back; the character always has the option of just sidestepping the conflict by transforming back.

Just writing the transformation itself as prose is totally valid! Definitely agree. However, the best TG works, I've found, have at least some plot structure to keep readers engaged and interested from one lewd scene to the next. OHaV, High School Girls, etc. Personally, I find the transformations and changes more satisfying when they happen to at least somewhat established characters because we actually see the full extent of the changes for ourselves, from before the transformation to the end. You can't really do that without the set up a plot provides.

It's actually more 'scientifically' reasonable for the person's sexuality to remain attracted to the gender they were attracted to before--because the brain has attraction to certain physical features, not to a perception of gender relative to your own. Since there are gay people who are not trans, and there are trans people that are not attracted to their own bio gender, we can conclude that the part of the brain responsible for sexuality and the part of the brain responsible for gender identity and making the gendered body parts work are separate.
