Maybe it won't be shit. Is there anyone else on the book? I don't actually think Landis is awful. That Supes Joker story was shit, but that's because he had the voices all wrong.

The tumblr crowd.

I spend most of my time on another board and there's this faggot tumblrite who constantly tries to explain things through Max Landis videos even when they aren't even remotely related to the topic.

I content myself with knowing that these people do not actually buy comics and instead read reviews about them on other sites. So while they'll look at Landis' blog or whatever he has and think the comic is great, real people will look at the sales and never ask Landis to do a non-digital only release again.

>Superman wins by killing Zod. By snapping his neck. And as this moment was building, as Zod was out of control and Superman was (for the first time since the fishing boat 90 minutes ago) struggling to actually save innocent victims instead of casually catching them in mid-plummet, some crazy guy in front of us was muttering “Don’t do it…don’t do it…DON’T DO IT…” and then Superman snapped Zod’s neck and that guy stood up and said in a very loud voice, “THAT’S IT, YOU LOST ME, I’M OUT,” and his girlfriend had to literally pull him back into his seat and keep him from walking out and that crazy guy was me. That crazy guy was me, and I barely even remember doing that, I had to be told afterward that I’d done that, that’s how caught up in betrayal I felt. And after the neck-snapping, even though I stuck it out, I didn’t give a damn about the rest of the movie.

Nice out of context quote, there. You missed the important part.

>But after I processed all that, I realized that it wasn’t so much my uncompromising vision of Superman that made this a total-fail moment for me; it was the failed lead-up TO the moment. As Superman’s having his final one-on-one battle with Zod, show me that he’s going out of his way to save people from getting caught in the middle. SHOW ME that trying to simultaneously protect humans and beat Zod is achingly, achingly costing Superman the fight. Build to that moment of the hard choice…show me, without doubt, that Superman has no other out and do a better job of convincing me that it’s a hard decision to make, and maybe I’ll give it to you. But even if I do? It’s not a victory. Not this sad, soul-darkening, utterly sans-catharsis “triumph” that doesn’t even feel like a win so much as a stop-loss. Two and a half hours, and I never once got the sense that Superman really achieved or earned anything.

>The essential part of Superman that got lost in MAN OF STEEL, the fundamental break in trust between the movie and the audience, is that we don’t just want Superman to save us; we want him to protect us. He was okay at the former, but really, really lousy at the latter. Once he puts on that suit, everyone he bothers to help along the way is pretty much an afterthought, a fly ball he might as well shag since he’s flying past anyway, so what the hell.

>punishing himself by killing Doomsday

How is that punishment? He wasn't strong enough so he died. And it's not like Superman bothered to punish himself over killing Darkseid, his parademons, those Golden Age criminals, Brainiac, or Imperiex. I want these faggots with their headcanon to leave.

>>
>>77380229
>Why don't people use this logic on Batman, and argue that he should always be portrayed as Adam West?

Because that's not the logic I'm using dumb-ass. Its an outdated aspect of the character, these pages were made with out the foresight of what superman would become.
>>
>>77380404
>muh superman

Your Superman sucks, but I'm curious as to what you think that "Superman has become."
>>
>>77380471
If I had to define superman, I see him more as a character who lived his life as a human first and kryptonian second. The duality of of Clark and superman is that Clark is the true identity between clark/superman. Superman is essentially the idea brought forth through Jor-el's teaching, its not who Clark is, but what he strives to be.
>>
>>77380722
How does this conflict with Superman not having an explicit kill code? The entire point of the portrayal that you mentioned is that Superman is "a man but super," a guy from Kansas who just wants to do good, not some infallible, unrelatable, alien god always capable of somehow finding another way (because plot).
>>
>>77380845
Because what you mention(golden age supes) doesn't really apply, golden aged superman can hardly be called superman. He was stories were written as someone above consequence because what he is doing is "good". Its a guy abusing his powers because he has said powers. There's no real thought put into it because it was written to get a story out.
>>

>Parademons

Soulless automatons devoid of any life that only walk and talk because Darkseid wills them to.

>GA criminals

Oh fuck off, like Batman still uses guns.

>Brainiac

He didn't kill Brainiac either, read the start of New Krypton where Brainiac kills Clark's dad and Supes fantasizes about killing him for that but doesn't do that because it would betray what Jonathan taught him

>Imperiex

He didn't kill Imperiex either, he threw him back into the Big Bang and literally just recreated him because Imperiex WAS the Big Bang
>>
>>77381573
>He didn't kill Darkseid
He sung Darkseid to death.

>parademons
>Soulless automatons devoid of any life
A parademon was actually a member of the Secret Six.

>GA criminals
Most of modern Batman actually does draw from his gritty Golden Age portrayals; the work of Neal Adam and Frank Miller was entirely focused on scrubbing away the bullshit, "giving Batman his balls back" as Frank put it, and bringing him back to those roots. But for whatever, reason, in regard to Superman, people have this tendency to ignore his Golden Age portrayals and act as if Silver Age Superman, influenced by the Comic Code, has been the sole incarnation of the character for 60 years.

>Brainiac
He killed Brainiac 13 when he killed Imperiex, and then, later on in Brainiac, punched Vril Drox out of his ship, exposing him to Earth's pathogens.

>read the start of New Krypton where Brainiac kills Clark's dad and Supes fantasizes about killing him
Murdering someone in revenge is far more malevolent and morally suspect than killing in self defense.
>>
>>77383391
>He sung Darkseid to death.

No, he didn't. Read The Return of Bruce Wayne by literally the same writer.

>A parademon was actually a member of the Secret Six.

Secret Six was Simone writing for her Tumblr audience. Canon mattered less compared to whether or not cute and quirky moments could be written and posted on Tumblr. Parademons are soulless automatons mass produced in machines and they would all drop dead if Darkseid expressed the thought.

>He killed Brainiac 13 when he killed Imperiex, and then, later on in Brainiac, punched Vril Drox out of his ship, exposing him to Earth's pathogens.

And Vril Dox didn't die from that. He was captured and imprisoned by the US government so Luthor could experiment on him.

Brainiac 13 was just an AI version of Brainiac from the future. It existed at the same time as the real Brainiac and was not alive either.

>Murdering someone in revenge is far more malevolent and morally suspect than killing in self defense.

And that's why Superman didn't do it. He was tempted to, but he didn't, because he has a fucking code against killing.

Revenge is always bad in fiction. You don't need to have a kill code not to commit literal cold blooded murder. Besides, "I don't have a kill code. I just don't like doing it," as Landis wrote, perfectly describes the values of someone who agonizes over putting down Doomsday and banishes himself from the planet for killing Zod.

>Vril Dox didn't die from that

He sung Darkseid to Death. Nothing in The Return of Bruce Wayne stated that Darkseid didn't die. The Hyper-Adapter was going to transform Batman into Darkseid, but the OG Darkseid died.

The Parademons are live beings, as well. Some writers like to portray them as automatons, but they're wrong. Geoff Johns knows shit about New Gods.
