/a/ doesn't do shelf threads anyway (since all they do is read scans)
>>
>>82285362
BTW I've read most of this already

One Piece: surprisingly good, comfy
Berserk: somewhat of a disappointment, the art isn't all that great (maybe it gets better?) and borderline reminds me of shonen, puck is surprisingly un-berserk
Lone Wolf and Cub: epic. only halfway through, it's a little exhausting. i read the main character in geralt's voice
Pluto: engaging, I really liked the north no. 2 chapters
Vagabond: nice art but the protagonist is just a weird psycho? not sure if i want to continue
Black Jack: pinoko is cute
Message to Adolf: idk, haven't read it yet
Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin: pretty good, never read/watched gundam before. i read char's voice as mgs3 young ocelot
Akira: really great visual storytelling
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind: perfect artwork. i love the tech level, with bolt actions and such. one thing I noticed though, at least twice I spotted characters conversing with thought bubbles - are they telepathic or was it a mistake or does miyazaki think they mean whispering
>>

Glad you're enjoying it so far. It only gets better as it goes along. The great thing about One Piece is how fleshed out even minor characters can be, as well as the ability to go from zero to feels in 0.5 seconds. Have some tissues ready.

The main issues by Morrison are top notch.
There are more good tie-ins than bad ones. Some of
tie-ins actually have story-building while others are tangential world-building.
Hmm. Now that I think about it, I mostly didn't like the Teen Titans tie-ins.
Would recommend it if you like Morrison's JLA.

I just ordered Judge Dredd Case Files Vol 5 as my first 2000 AD book. Looking into checking out more of this publisher's stuff. Specifically interested in a decent Strontium Dog story. Not pictured is Imperium vol 1 which I just picked up over the weekend.
>>

I'm planning on getting a few things to round out some series from that Buy 2 get 1 on image books. Namely Black Science, Manhattan Projects, and Rumble.

I must be blind. I was there yesterday and didn't see that... picked up my son's 5 minute avengers stories, some lego sets at 50% off and red hood and the outlaws vol.7 to complete the set. They did have a buy 2 get 1 on dc/marvel a few months ago so I'm hoping to see that again.

>>82306219
But your list has Marvel and DC via Icon and Vertigo. Powers and Ex Machina are superhero comics published by Marvel and DC. Watchmen isn't even published under an imprint, it's just DC.

Almost everything else is basic genre fiction that you shouldn't feel particularly smart about reading. Acme Novelty Library, Asterios Polyp, and Optic Nerve are a good start I guess but you really have no ground to act so pretentious.

>Powers and Ex Machina are superhero comics published by Marvel and DC. Watchmen isn't even published under an imprint, it's just DC
You know what I mean

>Almost everything else is basic genre fiction that you shouldn't feel particularly smart about reading.
>you really have no ground to act so pretentious.
Calling DC/Marvel "capeshit" means that I think I'm smarter and more important than anyone? Uh, if you say so.
>>
>>82306610
Well, I already have that one on my shelf (and another of his - Footnotes in Gaza iirc)

>Honestly that's just as autistic as people who only read DC/Marvel.
No, it's definitely not. On the one hand you have two stupid shared universes of superheroes and the other you have every single other story (inc. other superheroes) imaginable.
>>
>>82306646
>it's pretty easy to figure out which will be good and which will be generic capeshit.
That's true but even when it comes to good books I fail to find any personal enthusiasm for reading anymore Batman or whatever.
>>
>>82306894
Alright but your list has stuff by Bendis, BKV, Miller, Millar, Mazzucchelli, Moore, Brubaker, Ennis, etc you get the point. It's a silly line to draw when you already have such basic bitch taste.
>>
>>82307181
Sorry I don't exclusively read works by cartoonists

(On a related note aside from Ex Machina is anyone else viscerally disgusted by all of BKV's books like I am)

anon, making the assumption that youre talking about regular tpb's and hardcovers not some super rare printing worth a fortune... why do you care if theyre in pristine shape?

even if you traded them in at a used bookstore youre still only going to get used book price even if they have zero blemishes.

if you're the same guy whos posted before I'm not sure i understand your mindset and having a bit more info to work with would help
>>
>>82306219

I don't have a zero tolerance policy but if im picking up a major cape book like superman or avengers or something like that its usually for a reason, i only just got back into comics a couple years ago and i bought into a bunch of bullshit series i shouldnt have so it's been cut down considerably
>>
>>82303960
I'm kind of like this, not nearly as bad as you apparently. At any rate, I just can't buy paperbacks anymore because they get messed up so easily, I only buy hardcovers now. I also don't lend anything out anymore because somehow no one knows to treat other people's stuff properly anymore.

To my understanding, it's just a colorized version of volume one. I believe there are three volumes altogether, so it's weird that they never did the same with the other two.

I still only own the original print of volume one. If two's OOP, that's pretty depressing since they just recently made a big deal about re-releasing volume one.

And then they wonder why they're a bunch of weeaboos that people look down on like weirdos and comics are mainstream culture now.

Read what you like. If you end up not liking something you blind-bought, then consider the cost an "education fee." You'll know your own tastes better, no matter what.

And don't worry about what elitists on /a/ or /co/ or /mu/ or /tv/ or wherever say. OF COURSE your first batch of purchases are not going to fall in line with what a super-niche (jaded) fan reads.

So, I hate floppies, but I keep a pull list at my lcs of 5+ titles so I get a 10% discount on tpbs. My walls have been really bland so I decided to spruce them up a bit. None of the taks are going through the comics, or even the plastic that they are held in. I really like this

So, I have an idea for a small plastic device that will make reading single floppies more enjoyable. Sorry the pic I drew is utter shit, but visuals help
>plastic spine
A little longer than a spine of a typical comic book with 5 or six grooves carved into one side ment for the spines of single floppies to fit into
>plastic wings
Ment to gently pinch the multiple comic spines togeather inside the device, there is rubber strip on the insides of the wings to make sure the covers aren't damaged.
>Adjusting clamps or whatever
Designed to lock the spine and wings in place around all of the single floppies yoh will be reading
>clear hard plastic cover guard
Made to fit over the cover of the first comic o
In the contraption, protecting it from damage while letting you admire the cover art.

This is just an idea I've been mulling around with at work, but what do you guys think?
>>
>>82353505
that's dumb
>>
>>82355614
I suppose so, I just don't like how floppies feel in my ha ds while reading them, but maintain a pull list at my lcs to help support them and get a discount. I'm just trying to make reading single floppies more enjoyable. Thanks for your input I guess.
>>
>>82355796
How does it make it more enjoyable though, surely plastic would feel worse than paper
>>
>>82355940
Aside from the cover guard, the only plastic will be on the spine and the two pieces that press the floppies spines togeather. What I would like is for you to be able to fit singles in togeather and have them feel like a tpb while reading them. Like I said it's just idea.

So the point is to make them feel sturdier, correct? If you're concerned about damaging the book with your sausage fingers, why not just get something like this to read it on?
>>
>>82356467
I suppose so, I don't like the look of that item you posted, seems big and clunky, like it would be award to settle into my arm chair and read a comic sitting on that thing. I'm not so worried about my oil saturated sausage links damaging the pages so much as I am about how the comic feels in my hand. Like, if I want to go and take a crap and read some shit, I couldn't take that stand with me, but something like what I'm think of, i could. I know that's a poor example, but still, it's all I've got right now.
