Did anyone else feel like giving Stark a hug after this movie?

Guy spent the majority of his life dealing with his grief through science, alcoholism, and eight years prior, being the Iron Man. As a result, the woman he loves leaves him, he fucks up and creates Ultron while trying to protect the world from an incoming, unbeatable alien invasion, and then, all of a sudden, the truth of his parent's brutal murder is revealed to him while the realizing the one man he felt he could still trust hid the truth from him. Decades of suppressed emotion manifested as a fit of rage that not even Stark's own logical mind could reign in, even though he knew it was wrong, and at the end of it all, he fought the closest friend he had left nearly to the death, and was beaten down by him and the man that unwillingly murdered his parents, leaving him even more broken than he was before.

Damn, I wanted to see Stark get a satisfying comeuppance, but not like this. He just wanted to do good, and it always blows up in his face because he's too estranged from his own humanity to figure it out, and this movie is where it the root of everything wrong with him just exploded like a damn nuke. This was plain goddamn heartbreaking.
>>
He's an Uncle Tom. Sold out all his friends to the man for a pat on the back.
>>
Don't forget his shit always being used as weapons by other people
>>
>>82431034
>Sold out all his friends to the man for a pat on the back.
To be fair, he was trying to get them to come with him so they wouldn't be arrested. The Avengers are the only family he has left, and he doesn't want the gubmint cracking down on them through force, because he knows that's exactly what'll happen and that more people WILL get hurt, them included.

>that moment when he mouths "C'mon, Cap..." under his breath after begging Cap to come with him.

Jesus, I didn't expect this movie to make me like Stark. He just wants to prevent his friends from getting hurt, even if they hate him for it.
>>
>>82430952

Are we even sure Pepper has left him? From AoU it sounded like they were still together. Are people getting this idea because he hits on May? Or is there something else I missed?

>Are we even sure Pepper has left him?
They are separated but not broken up. She is still the head of his company and earning money for HIM to spend and waste. I think that is how Pepper is leaving it for now, in that she loves him enough to make sure he is provided for, but right now she doesn't what to deal with his mental issues.

>>

Yes, she left him AFTER AoU. It's during Tony's introductory scene; the prompter he was reading from had him introducing Pepper, but it was an old version of the speech and she wasn't there. Later on, Tony opens up to Steve about his and Pepper's break after Steve was apprehended along with Bucky.

They were still together in AoU.
>>
>>82432382
That's not the reason.

IM2 was supposed to be Demon in a Bottle but it was dropped because Marvel deliberately toned it down to market their alcoholic disaster of a person as a rolemodel to kids.

Welcome to Obama's Republic of Hitlerstan.

He really felt like Punished Tony after Civil War. I was never a big fan of Iron Man but I felt for the guy

Pretty spot on, except for the idea that Stark is ruled by logic rather than emotions.

Nigga, both RDJ and Favreau were working on making IM2 Demon in a Bottle.
Plus, if he had any issues with that, wouldn't you think he would have had issues with Civil War?
He also has problems regarding his own father because he was an abusive one.
>>
>>82431755

They were still together in AOU.

But the fuck up with Ultron is basically a retread of the issue they were having in IM3.

Though, to pile more sadness on Tony, the whole reason he pushed for Ultron without ragard of the possible risk was just to quit and be with Pepper.

Like he said in IM3, we make our own demons.

Personally I felt the worst for Wanda out of all of them. That little cut-aside when Tony is in the prison and he sees that the military have her restrained like a goddamn animal was harsh.

I enjoyed Scott in this movie, and his quip in prison was amusing - though i'm surprised Tony didn't have more of a reaction when Pym was mentioned.

That being said Clint was actually odd in this movie, i mean why was he SO pissed at Tony? I can imagine it was a "I go for 5 minutes and it all falls apart" but still
>>
>>82434396
Just as Cap's willing to sign the accords too

>Personally I felt the worst for Wanda out of all of them. That little cut-aside when Tony is in the prison and he sees that the military have her restrained like a goddamn animal was harsh.
It also nearly replicates the bunker where the Winter Soldiers were locked up. You could be certain if the US government knows how to apply Winter Soldier level brainwashing on Wanda, they would do it in a heartbeat. As Tony said, she isn't American and has no rights. If they can make her into an obedient pawn by taking away her free will, the government WILL do it. There is no different between Soviet Union Hydra and a US government lead by Ross, they are just competing evil forces now.
>>
>>82434396
Yeah, pretty much. Tony was a massive dick to Wanda in this film.

Of course, he had to be to give Cap a believable reason to resist the Accords. Despite what Stark fans are saying, it wasn't just about Bucky.
>>

It was Howard who knew Pym, and he was a neglectful father to Tony.

It's a shame that Buck is a cuck in this movie. Winter Soldier was a fucking badass and his no-nonsense "come in with overwhelming back-up, shoot/bomb everything" style could've made him a terrifying threat to the Avengers as long as the three heaviest hitters aren't around. None of this stupid banter bullshit like QuipBot 9000 or Reindeer Games, just bullets, explosives, and a glare.

>>
>>82434538
He didn't want to use lethal force and hurt people. When his Winter Soldier mode is activated he's on par with Black Panther.
>>
>>82434414
Tony was being a bad father figure to Wanda after Clint was a good one to her in AoU.
>>
>>82434366
>in a box
>not a lavish mansion.

He's not wrong in that Wanda would not be treated like a weapon, and putting her in that house was the best he could do until the Accords were signed.
>>
>>82434603
Clint's and Tony's personalities don't really jive--at the fault of no one. Tony hates Clint for being what Tony himself wants to be (Family guy, pretty cool dude, able to hold his own with the Avengers without a power suit and just generally stable) And Clint resents him for being who he wants to be (Full time superhero, no family holding him back, etc)
Think George Harrison and John Lennon early Beatles.
Keep in mind Clint also is a fatherly type to Wanda as Joss Whendon (hamfistedly) tried to show us in AoU and he seems to have a strong fatherly instinct in general.
So basically, you fucked with the nest and now I have to fuck back with you.

>>
>>82434592
That's what happens when you're constantly making them smaller and smaller. Mark 46 looks really nice, but the transition from complete suits to half cgi suits from Iron Man 3 to AoU is jarring.
>>
>>82434208
Rhodey, Happy, and Vision still like him.

And Steve left him an Avengers Beeper.
>>
>>82434573

They sort of did. Not to the level of Cap and Tony, but he and Tony quipped together and talked in Avengers 1 and he had the "Pretending the team needs this guy brings up together" moment with Clint in AoU as well as when he suggested Clint try to contact Widow through old spy stuff.

It's not that much, but honestly I think Tony and Clint interacted more than Cap and Clint did in the Avengers films, so Clint siding with Cap and telling off Tony seems weird.

I think they just shoehorned him in for the sake of having him (or because they want him with Cap's Secret Avengers for another movie down the line) and put him with Cap because he was Anti government control following Civil War in the comics (but he sat out the actual event, though he made it clear he'd be with Cap if he fought in it)
>>
>>82434768

They've been using half CGI suits since IM 2. They only built a full suit in IM1 and quickly released it was a terrible idea because you could barely move in it so it was CGI half the time anyway.
>>
>>82434529

Yep. If a major superhero does we wouldn't care because he would she would be resurrected soon enough. If a minor character died we would just move on and not give a damn. Killing characters just doesn't have that kind of impact with Comic stories because it is really over used.

>>
>>82435418
I liked him in the first film. More subdued than Thor but a cool big brother figure who's always looking out for his bro. A bit superficial and self-conscious so he gets jealous of Cap but he can't hold it too much against him and realizes it's kind of a dumb thing to be upset about overall. Also a bit of a troll and mopey and self-conscious sometimes. He spends a lot of on the run but you see some of it peek through in Civil War.
>>
>>82435503

That is fair. Except they mostly wanted him for execution and to set an example.

The right thing to do is what they do at the end, froze him again until they can determine how to deprogram him.

That was literally just Tony and Bruce playing around in his lab. Are they going to have Tony under constant surveiliance and insist that anything he or his company work on be approved through them? Because that's something completely different.

>or let an alien take the guy who bombed Manhattan with other, different aliens for a trip home some adult can smack their hands and say "no".

They were still under oversight from SHIELD then, and the same thing would have happened. They'd have let Thor do what he wanted because otherwise they're going to war with Asgard, a higher dimensional nation filled with superhumans. Let's see the Accords comittee try to tell Thor what to do, without starting an interdimensional incident.

However the Accords certainly did a good job of trying to kill an innocent man because he was the most convinient and available target now didn't they.

The Accords are BS. They'd never work.

>>

>I'm not even joking here, how have the Americans, the people who made the fucking movie, and the comics it was based on, not seen it yet?
Actually it is because of different holidays.

I know at least for both Australia and Japan, the opening week coincides with a Labour Day long weekend or the Japanese Gold Week. This is done because the studio get 90% of the ticket sales as their profits in the opening week, and less as the weeks go on. So to maximise profits Marvel arrange the opening day to match major holidays so they have the maximum number of people having the spare time to go see it that week and not any other week.

Major holidays are often different for every country, so the release date is different.

This isn't done for BvS because DC expected bad reviews, and want as many people to see it as possible before the bad word of mouth sinks the film.

Except the Avengers were winning, and even regular guys with regular weapons like Widow and Hawkeye were downing them, so some actual ground force backup would have helped much more than just nuking the whole place and killing everyone in New York.

They just pushed for that because the Council member played by Powers Boothe was Hydra (as AoS revealed) and wanted the Avengers killed so they wouldn't be a threat to them. Which ties into Governments not being trustable.

In real life the government/armed forces have ways of gathering information to formulate strategies, they wouldn't jump straight to NUKE THE SHIT OUT OF OUR OWN TERRITORY just because a small amount of alien ground troops are attacking part of one city.

They would at least start off with more conventional ordinance.

Can't be bothered to type up a full explanation but two things
1. The suit was damaged
2. Iron-Man's weapons are mostly lethal, he didn't want to kill cap but he did want to kill bucky. Different situation from destryoing inanimate objects or fighting a literal god who would slay you otherwise.

And lastly Cap wasn't holding back, hence he managed to overwhelm Stark until he plugged into the matrix.

Happy. Character deaths are a very cheap way to garner emotion from an audience or to resolve a plot point.

If you can still strike an emotional chord and give a sense of resolution without simply killing off a character, you did it right. And honestly, I feel that getting a disability/maimed in action like Rhodes is a far more chilling fate than death. Imagine if Supes lost an arm in combat with DD instead of dying.

And Bucky killing his parents while brainwashed is "technically justified" too, because he literally had no control over it. Between the two, Tony is the one that acted under his own volition and tried to kill Bucky and attacked his best friend instead of helping them take down the villain they came to stop. I'm not saying Tony doesn't have the right to be upset, I totally understand why he snapped, but after he cools down and reflects, he's gotta realize that he didn't handle it the right way.

Bucky feels guilty for the shit he's done, but it wasn't his fault, and Tony really needs to come to terms with that for his own fucking mental stability because that man needs therapy just as much. Channeling his hatred onto Bucky is like getting pissed off at a chair when you stub your toe. Tony isn't going to accept the shit that happened and recover and move on from it until he understands that Bucky is just as much of a victim as his parents. Not saying they need to be best friends, but they need to be able to see the other's side eventually.

There's no misreading, it's about as blunt as possible in his portral as the main antagonist of the MCU. This movie treats Stark as Ozzymandias, where it goes out of his way to say how right he is because of a strawman ideology, but you know it's not gonna work because Zeemo is a part of Hydra and Tony signed his rights away to be their bitch willingly.
