Afew days ago we had the typical Sabrina Online thread. This time an anon was motivated to message Eric W. Schwartz about some of the larger rumors surrounding him.

Afew hours ago I got his response.

Short answer, all claims are false but he is a linuxfag.

Long answer, he turned down work on DreamWorks Casper. I didn't like that movie.

I will send him a link to this thread.

It's good to know that Eric is more grounded than what was rumored.

His was one of the first sites I came across when I first started browsing the internet back in 1996.

I think I was searching for stuff related to the Sabrina the Teenaged Witch show and its recent transformation themed episode and Sabrina Online was at the top of the list. I think I searched for "Sabrina Transform". There must've been a Transformers tag on there. I was also doing research on my Transformer collection at the time which might've also been how I found it. I was looking up the name of this jet bot I got at a garage sale which I swore I had years ago. The bot turned out to be Jetfire and the old toy was just a Macross Veritech toy my parents got me when we lived in Japan that had similar colors.

He was posting comics over 2k pixels wide all the way back in 1996. You just had to click on them to get the full resolution.

At this point I'm afraid to ask, but are there actually GOOD furry comics?

>>82347998
How the art is aliased made it look considerably lower resolution is the thing. Like, it was drawn like that and then upscaled.

Nah, you've got lines that are exactly one pixel wide even at a 2107x776 resolution, and the entire thing is 1-bit monochrome. It would be difficult to scale UP into that. It was just drawn on a (for the time) huge canvas in a format that compresses into small filesizes really well.

See Anon, you make the mistake of assuming that what calls itself "the furry community" is a hivemind where everyone thinks alike. But first off, people with fursona's are a fleeting minority among the people who consider themselves furries, at least from what I can tell. Second off, they're basically self-inserts, and they exist in literally every goddamn fandom.

Seriously, where does the term Mary Sue come from? Fucking Star Trek. Together with the term "slash fiction", of course. So nerdy fangirls were schlicking themselves off to their self-inserts being worshipped by their inexplicably bisexual idols before the internet even fucking existed.

And then you have shit like Steampunk, where literally the only appeal is dressing yourself up as Lord Cumberfairing Thunderbottom and pretend you're hunting dinosaurs with a raygun.

In short, you're getting your panties in a twist over something that people just... do. And will always do, as long as fiction exists. Take a chill pill.

Not him, but I read it for a while. The art is good (not as amazing as everyone claims, sepia and happy cat faces wear me down after a while), the characters are enjoyable, the attention to detail is astounding, but the pacing...

Lackadaisy falls into the typical webcomic trap. It's been running for years, but nothing has actually happened. It's not exciting. And at one point I realised I was just reading it for Ivy (that's her name, right? The young flapper girl?) being cute, and... whatshisface, with the get-rich-quick schemes being stupid, and Mordecai (has there ever been a socially adjusted character with that name?) being a sociopath. There was no real plot, no real resolution, and it's had Freckle or whatever his real name as a lunatic with a tommy gun on the front page since day 1, but it took years for him to go from a PTSD-riddles veteran to... a more PTSD-riddles veteran.

I feel the comic drops a lot of potential in favour of focusing on the cats being cute. And cats being cute only gets you do far in my book. Especially with only a few updates a year. I can deal with that if every update is a page-turner, but it isn't.

Stacey & Tracey > Sabrina > Zig Zag
>>
>>82349388
For programming, there are a ton of advantages to using Linux, especially if you use C, C++, Python, Ruby, node.js, etc. (Maybe not so much for C#.) A bunch of libraries for those languages just don't work or are missing things (like symbols/colour in terminal output) in Windows. Also, the Windows API is a nightmare, and the Windows method of getting C/C++ libraries that is manually tracking them down and putting them in the source tree, is way inferior than just using a package manager and the global /include and /lib directories. For web-dev, it's difficult to test locally on Windows if your stack includes things like nginx or Redis.

Other than dev stuff, Linux is generally easier to customize, faster to start and faster at filesystem operations (Git is much faster.) See http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=74 for an admission from a Windows kernel dev about that last thing. If I don't need any Windows-specific software, I'll use Linux by default.

>>no hardware support other than hackjob drivers that suck ass
Agreed, for some hardware, but this is moot if you own hardware that works well (I do.)

>>needless hassle for basic shit
This pretty much depends on whether you're shit at computers or not. I wouldn't consider my experience with Linux a hassle.

>>no games
Agreed, but not all computing is games. I use Linux on my laptop because gaming on laptops is for turbo-plebs. On my desktop I dual boot.

I regularly use Windows and Linux, and I have used OS X extensively in the past. I've used them for both work shit and hobby shit. Honestly, there are things to hate about all three and there are also use cases that each one suits perfectly. Shitting on one of the "big three" operating systems and implying it's not good for anything makes for dumb /g/-tier arguments and I'd prefer not to see them outside of /g/.
>>
>>82349763
>For programming

So it's only better at one specific thing that 999/1000 people don't give a fuck about.
>>
>>82350061
I didn't say that was the only thing. I don't think you read my post. Even if that was the only thing, it still counts as an answer to your question.

Ignoring big fields like programming, there are a lot of little things I like about Linux. I like that more of my system files are protected by OS-level permissions, so it's harder to accidentally delete shit when poking around. I like not having to keep Windows Defender up-to-date to feel secure. I like being able to have Java installed without being bugged about updates every week. I like that more programs adapt to my HiDPI screen. I like installing software with a package manager instead of a malware-ridden installer.

Similarly, there are a bunch of small annoyances I have with Windows. I hate how long it takes to load the thumbnails in my 4chan folder. I hate that Windows Update bugs me to install Windows 10. I hate that you have to jump through hoops and replace system files to install custom themes. I hate that the Command Prompt is basically useless. I hate that the default file manager is not an orthodox file manager. I hate that there is no support for SFTP shares. I hate that the compositor syncs to the primary monitor, so watching a video on an external monitor out of exclusive mode will always drop frames. I hate that the ADB drivers are broken for USB3 ports.

These things just tip the scales for me towards Linux, though I understand it's not for everyone. There are reasons to like and hate every operating system. Claiming that one is so obviously better than the other instead of having a nuanced discussion about the benefits and flaws of each makes you look like a retard.
>>
>>82350303
Do you have any idea how autistic you sound. It's like Schwartz's Amiga fetish.

Malware is only an issue if you're a retard and the rest are just tiny little things that no one really cares about and are miniscule in comparison to the lack of hardware and software compatibility in Linux. Programming is the only valid point you brought up.

Do you have any idea how retarded you sound? If you don't have anything intelligent to say, just drop the argument and go back to /g/.

>Malware is only an issue if you're a retard
Not true. I bet you're one of those guys who thinks you can only get malware from shady programs. RCE vulnerabilities and XSS mean you can be infected with malware by visiting any website. If you're hit with a zero-day, or you don't regularly update Windows or Defender, bad luck.

>the lack of hardware and software compatibility in Linux
Again, this is moot if you don't use hardware or software that doesn't work. I have Windows on my desktop for gaymen, but I don't see the need for Windows on my laptops. Even when I had Windows on them, I didn't use any software that wasn't available on Linux. On the other hand, when I use Windows I miss software like XSane, which is much better for scanning than any shit on Windows.

Its funny how /co/ was trying to make this guy the new Chris-chan or Dobson in the last few weeks, only for this thread to swiftly destroy that by showing him to be a relatively normal guy(as normal as someone who's been running a furry webcomic for 20 years can be, at least). He's not some obsessive Amiga autist, he just liked it back then but isn't sperging out about it all the time. He didn't wreck his life because he never switched from Amiga, the whole WB thing never even happened. So much for that.

>Comic industry right now is garbage and unless you go webcomic/indie no one cares about your designs.

Oh it gets better, you are underpaid without any benefits and you will have to deal with your superiors being grossly incompetent and immature but experts at office politics. If they don't outright harass you until you want to quit they will overwork you as best they can, provided you don't get fired or let go for one absurd reason or another.

If you are doing a webcomic then you are pretty much wasting your time until lightening strikes. Even when you do get lucky more likely it will be about you doing something loosely related to the comic rather than the comic itself.

Really, sitting in a hole drawing weird shit for someone paying $45 for an hour's worth of work doesn't sound to bad if you can get over the aspect of doing things you will take to your grave.

Yeah I've noticed that. Which leads me to my questions about pic related. Okay so, first he asks what they're supposed to be. She responds to his question by saying they're witches. They are in witch costumes and wearing witch hats so yes, they are witches. There is nothing wrong with her answer. Yet this guy goes on to say, "No, no - I mean what're you dressed up as?" Okay what the fuck is he doing? He's just asking the same question in a different way. How would the answer for this question be any different than the one for the first one? How is "What're you dressed up as?" any different than "What're you supposed to be?" in this situation? And then he goes on to call them bitches though I will say understand why he would feel the need to call them that. Because I've read the other pages available online and I can understand why he thinks they're bitches, because these girls have a knack for making his life hell. Still though, they're not doing anything in this page that would really warrant that insult. Is there some context I'm missing? Did something significant happen before this page? Because if not, then it just looks he's being a complete and utter douchebag to them here.

Yeah I know that. It's unfortunate. I didn't find out about Jim Hardiman or Skunkworks until recently (I'm not even furry or at least I don't consider myself one). I guess I'm both glad and sad that I did. I'm glad because I discovered this amazing artist and a great and funny comic that he did. I'm sad because he's dead and won't be able to do anything more, even though he wanted to despite his health and body not wanting him to. Fuck it's not fair. He deserved to go on to do more. He deserved more recognition. I don't care if him and his work were part of the furry fandom. Talent is talent. And good talent deserves recognition. According to Jason Canty, creator of Angry Viking Press, one of the things the Angry Viking Press kickstarter was meant to do was to help Jim get his work out to a wider audience, maybe to an audience that wasn't entirely furry. Maybe he would have gotten more recognition that way. And I know that Jim was probably happy where he was career-wise. I read some of his comments on his FurAffinity page and he said he was making a decent amount of money to live on. For all I know maybe he preferred that many people didn't know about his work. Like I can imagine he didn't want to people to know about the porn he drew. To be honest, I probably wouldn't want people to know about that either. It's just that...I'm mad about this. Sad too, I guess. You know it's kind of weird that he died after signing with Angry Viking Press. It's like there was a potential new horizon. But that horizon is gone now.

>>
>>82374375
I know the fucking joke. 'Witches? More like bitches' yeah I get that. I was just asking if there was some context to both that and his general assholery in that page. There's only a few pages of the comic available online, meaning that there could have possibly been a page(s) that came before the page I posted. For all I knew, there may been a reason or justification for why he's acting the way he does in that page. Plenty of comic book pages, when viewed out of context, can make a character unintentionally look an asshole or make them look like bad guys. I was asking if the page was an example of that. But apparently judging by some of the responses I got, that's just the way his character is in the comic. So I guess there's not really any context I'm missing. To conclude, you're an asshole and an idiot because you clearly had no idea what I was talking about in that post.

No it wouldn't. Remember that old people don't really give a shit about 4chan. We aren't that important to most of the rest of the world. And /co/ mods/janitors have been waging constant war with furries since the board's inception. So they're unlikely to lurk here. Case-in-point, look at how many times Chochi has been banned for posting non-lewd fanart. Putting a FAQ or blog in his site would be the BEST way to crush the rumors.

>>

>The consiracy theories start anew.
Shut up Eric.
On a more serious note, just because you read it on the internet doesn't mean it's true.
Especially if you read it on a website where a good chunk of the userbase is photoshop savvy.
He could easily be lying through his teeth to curb the rumors for whatever reason.

>No it wouldn't
It would. Your average newfag doesn't stick to 4chan exclusively, which means it would get spread a lot more than if he just made an FAQ on his site, which only his readers might bother reading.

>constant war with furries
Gesta/co/ mod usually excludes things he likes from the No Furry rule. Case-in-point: Sabrina and Minerva threads can last for days, often they even get to 404 due to bump limit, despite the OP image being Sabrina or Minerva.
