One in a million Crossed can think. They are the alphas of their selective pack. Usually they just think of various ways of preserving themselves (clothing, eating, not raping each other), but also on more creative ways of torture, and prolonging said torture without turning their victims.
Smokey wanted to start a dynasty, so humans don't die out with the crossed. Read the book on how it goes, it's probably the most interesting Crossed book yet.

Smokey (the big guy) and Twins (preggos) still murder and skullfuck, but Smokey wants to create a stable civilisation of crossed and regulars because he's figured out that un-intelligent crossed will eventually die out due to their zero survival instinct and that they will kill all the regulars they find before they can reproduce and make more that he can murder and skullfuck.
Even though Smokey is intelligent by crossed standards, he still needs a regular to help him plan out because planning out anything that does not involve immediate gore or rape hurts him.
So at the latest issue of Badlands Smokey settled down in a sunstainible town, the twins that have given birth to his babies (we're guessing that they will be intelligent), he has a cattle of regulars and a regular subordinate.
