I haven't seen it, but Leto's Joker has kinda grown on me. I feel like the Joker was meant to be a mobster/clown, but organized crime isn't all pinstripe suits anymore. Its gaudy hip hop bullshit meant primarily to peacock. So this DAMAGED Joker feels like a modernization on the original concept.

The problem with the tattoos isn't that the Joker has some ink. It's that the tattoos are retarded. All his tattoos are basically just "I AM THE JOKER" plastered all over his body. A picture of a joker, his iconic smile(two tattoos of that) some laughter, and in case that was all too subtle he just has his fucking name on his abs.
The dead bird is the only thing that makes any damn sense on him. If he's going to get some tattoos he should get things that would be important for him, or funny to him. He doesn't need to advertise that he's the Joker by plastering pictures to his body, he's already the fucking Joker. He doesn't need a picture of his own smile since he's already got the real thing on his face.
