Early reviews that have popped up from early screenings are all pointing a pretty consistent picture.

>It's a good movie, but not great. Better than BvS

>Action is good, pacing is solid, story is fine, character interactions overall work

>Humor is hit or miss

>Harley and Deadshot are the leads

>Joker is being way overhyped in the trailers because he has a pretty minor role. Jared Leto plays it very over the top, but it works

>Batman is also in it less than you'd expect based on previews

>One particular character relationship falls completely flat, which is bad because it's one of the movie's focal points

>Trailers are rather misleading, it's way grittier than they make it out to be

>Test-audiences seemed kinda' split on it. Movie is apparently "Not for everyone".

Movies can't all be crowd-pleasers. Marvel already make those very well. The DC movies should feel different.

BvS wasn't great but at least it tried to be it's own thing, and I respect them for that. I'll hate it if their strategy is to lower the bar to please more people by giving them what they already have instead of improving their own "formula".

This isn't some sort of artsy indie movie with PRINCIPLES, you know? This is a blockbuster that is meant to do as much money as it can, to be as popular as it can. You think they made it with the expectation of it being divisive? Do you think the producers took the risk because they expected it to not pay off? They hired Will Smith, someone who is supposed to attract the audience because the man is so likeable.
It's not a good sign if people don't like this movie as much as they should.
>>
>>84553193

I thought it was a very interesting, tense take on these characters and there are a lot of things that made me think and has made me rewatch the movie to pick them apart.

I can deal with different interpreations of characters i like, specially DC characters, and i don't see the movie versions, at least these ones, as the definitive ones. So i just enjoyed the new takes and the story.

Even blockbusters don't need to please everyone.
Obviously the studios want it to be extremely successful, but that doesn't mean every movie should play it safe because they want a 6 years and their grandma clapping in the theaters.

Temple of Doom is not for everyone, but it's existence is absolutely justified.

>>
>>84553003

DC animated movies are actually terrible. The animation is fine, but the artwork is so flat and generic, especially for a setting as gritty as Gotham city. All the characters look exactly the same just with different colored costumes and faces. In Dark Knight Returns, I swear Joker looks just as jacked as Batman for some reason. I mean, as movies, the plots are the same as the comics, so sure, we enjoy the story telling. But as far as adapting the stories to a different medium and making the most use of that medium, the DC animated movies don't really have much going for them.
>>

It's tracking for a huge opening (don't know how they measure trackingness)

And doesn't have a lot of completion at that time in August

And besides /co/ the early reviews seem to be saying this a good flick (of course this is all garbage as anyone can "leak" information)
>>
>>84564343
Yeah, opening weekend will surpass BvS, no question. And it's very likely it will remain on the top 3 spots for at least the rest of the month, they just gotta avoid a drop on the next weeks to that.
>>
>>84564672
It's been tracking for a lower opening weekend than BvS, actually. 125-135m to BvS's 166m.

Even 125 would still be a huge success.

The attempt doesn't excuse the result for being piss poor. And it hardly tried to be its own thing. It tried to be another adaption by Zack Snyder, only this time he ignored the source material

There is no way will beat BvS' opening gross of $166m

Dont even pretend.

Breaking $90m is possible.
Breaking $100m would be great.
Reaching $125m would be a phenomenal success.
>>
It's going to disappoint people either way. The hype is way too high considering the abortion called BvS that we had to live through already this year.

If it gets above a 40% on meme tomato I'll go see it in theaters. Otherwise I'll watch it for free.

Yeah, so what? Are you an exec? Why does that matter to you, as a comic fan? DCEU has been very mediocre so far, but its problem has never been not being an omnipleaser. Its problem was that it's a pseudointellectual clusterfuck.
>>
>>84569634
>And? How is that bad.

Well, you're the one reading that that's bad, but if you want an answer, "it's not for everyone" is how people politely say "it sucks and most won't like it." It's like when you eat something that tastes like shit and someone tells you "it's an acquired taste."
>>
>>84569889
I'm not referring to the reviewers, I meant the numerous anons in this thread that said a movie not being a blockbuster success that pleases almost everyone means its bad because that's what execs wanted it to be.
>>
>>84569964
In that case, it's as I said: "it's not for everyone" is code for "not that many people will like it (because it's bad)."
>>
>>84570001
"not many people will like it" doesn't necessarily mean "it's bad"

That's exactly what I expected. They kept showing the same Joker and Batman scenes so there was no way that there were going to be in the movie for too long. The comedy in the trailers is also not the best. Of course they're going to make the two biggest stars the lead of the film. And the first trailer was waaaaay darker than the later trailers. Also, when the movie was still in production, the director kept hyping up the fact that the movie was "SUPER DARK. THE WHOLE CAST AND CREW NEEDED A PSYCHIATRIST". (Source: http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Why-Suicide-Squad-Had-Bring-An-Set-Therapist-72293.html) The marketing team made the trailers lighter to try to get the Guardians of the Galaxy audience but the director seemed to have a different vision for his creation at the start.

You're arguing about what the phrase "not for everyone" literally means if you look at the definition of each word and the guy you're replying to you just said (multiple times) that when people say "not for everyone" they are using it as code for something else.Without even getting into whether he is right or wrong you have completely failed to address his point.

Good. I want the DCEU to be more fun overall but Suicide Squad is one of the few properties that absolutely should be dark and gritty as fuck.

Dairy is not for everyone. Anal sex is not for everyone. Religion is not for everyone.

It's all a matter of opinion.
>>
>>84570099
Fucking this. Way back the first trailer was super dark (but awesome) and they kept dropping all this gossip/interview shit about how mentally fucked up the cast was and how Leto was batshit. Fast forward a few months and they have a quippy trailer set to classic rock, but only after everyone started razzing bvs for being too grim. People who are going into this thinking it will be DC's GOTG are gonna be sorely disappointed. Personally, I'm excited for it but I am a little tired of Harley Quinn and Joker wank. I'm also already cringing at all the bad couple's cosplay and halloween costumes that will be everywhere.
>>
>>84570384
>People who are going into this thinking it will be DC's GOTG are gonna be sorely disappointed.
That's what people kept on comparing it to and I'm glad the movie isn't a thing like GotG since SS has never been a thing like SS. Like I said, if there's any DC property that should be darker and grittier, it's SS.

If anything, something like JLD should be DC's GotG.
>>
>>84570342
>Dairy is not for everyone. Anal sex is not for everyone. Religion is not for everyone.

These things are not really due to "opinion" for the most part. Lactose intolerance is due to a molecular inability to digest dairy. Anal sex is simply not pleasurable for everyone. I won't touch religion because I want to stay on topic.

When you are asked "How's the movie?" and you reply, "It's not for everyone," you're saying it's bad in a coded way.
>>
>>84570520
>When you are asked "How's the movie?" and you reply, "It's not for everyone," you're saying it's bad in a coded way.
No you're not, you're saying that it's offbeat. Wes Anderson films are not for everyone. Grant Morrison comics are not for everyone. Tokusatsu isn't for everyone. And so on.

Saying something "isn't for everyone" just means it may not necessarily have too much mainstream appeal.
>>
>>84570578
>Wes Anderson films are not for everyone.
This isn't a fucking Wes Anderson film, man. This is a superhero film by one of the largest entertainment corporations in the country. Get over the denial.
>>
>>84570640
>This isn't a fucking Wes Anderson film, man. This is a superhero film by one of the largest entertainment corporations in the country.
I'm not sure why that would matter. If it doesn't align up 100% with what mainstream audiences like, then it is not for everyone. Jesus fucking christ. No it's not going to be a Wes Anderson movie. But it's pretty clear that it's clearly trying to something a little different and people are naturally going to be put off by that.
>>
>>84570718
>But it's pretty clear that it's clearly trying to something a little different and people are naturally going to be put off by that.
"Gritty superhero movie" is not "something a little different." People like things if they're different and good. People don't like things if they're different and bad.
>>
>>84570921
>"Gritty superhero movie" is not "something a little different."
But one with plenty of dark and black humor might be.

We've already had those and they've been critically loved and/or box office hits. This is the excuse of, among others, the BvS fanboy: "People just hate it because it's different!" No, they don't. They hate it because it's bad.

Measuring the appeal of a film directly relates to likely box office performance, as does critical review for that matter.
>>

>>
>>84571299
even so, a movie that's not for wholesome family fun can still be successful. You don't take your kids to gritty stuff. It's just that both "comic-based" and "not for kids" is a rare combo.

Joker causes trouble in his club and runs away with Harley. Batman is in the Batcave repairing the batmobile when he hears the police dispatch and he informs Alfred that he is leaving. We see Batman really angry in the batmobile chasing them but they manage to make him crash. As soon as they think they got rid of him he jumps in the roof o of the car and punches it trying to break the roof. Joker tries some manoeuvers Harley shoots the roof with a cartoony looking gun, but Batman moves to the side. Joker takes the car into the water. Batman jumps and searches for them, finding only Harley half drowned, and takes her to GCPD and talks to Alfred about creating a bat-submarine so he can look for Joker.

We see Deadshot and his daughter outside shopping and having fun when a swat team surround him. He starts shooting and Batman comes and they discuss what's best for his daughter.

A small montage between bBtman chasing Killer Croc in a sewage and capturing him by running him over with batmobile. The scene has only 50 seconds and there is voice over by Amanda Waller.

In the end of the movie, Batman sneaks into ARGUS and talks with Amanda about what she is doing and warning her that he will stop her. Amanda tells him that it's for the best and that Batman alone can mess with the Wall. Batman responds by saying with a smirk that he's making new friends.
