New Thunderbolts has been thoroughly meh. The unforgivable lack of characterization is what kills it for me. Everyone has become one-note and bland. Fixer's been reduced to all ego all the time, Karla hasn't worked any angles(and isn't bullying Bucky), and Abe and Erik just kind of exist.

And even then, nothing as really happened so far. Nothing of consequence anyway. And no, the Inhumans getting needlessly pissed off at the T-Bolts for destroying those pods doesn't count, because that had no logical reason to happen. And I've seen Inhumans fans bitching about Crystal being way out of character for ordering this attack, so there's that too.

To be fair we all have a high standard for Thunderbolts and Zub's T-Bolts is definitely written with an eye to appeasing/attracting old fans, but it's just not going to match the original stuff that created those fans. It's in a tough position. Even if you're great at aping the original material, who wants to or a retread?

I realise this argument could be used to advocate Fightbolts or the Red Hulk, yes.

It didn't, they just did it to fuck with him and made sure that it didn't hurt anybody else. In T-bolts Crystal is trying murder them without even trying to find out what is going on, and the inhumans that she has with her aren't killers. I could see Medusa doing that shit if she stumbled on them killing a bunch of Inhumans but Crystal wouldn't. They even had an arc where that happened in All new Inhumans.

That's what I cry out about, too. Like just take the Inhumans, run down the facts established in comics featuring them. They're so fucking weird! Don't ruin that, run with it. Inhuman society is crazy! You have this big terrorist event that thrusts that society into the heart of human societies it has always kept away from, that's a mash-up that you could do good shit with.

Even if you did want to awkwardly link them to some current social trend, Marvel is pushes the X-button they've been pushing since the 80s and they could be looking at like, radicalization towards other societies and the populist reaction to that.
>>
>>84549944

you mean like game of thrones?

the cool stuff about inhumans (that also sets them apart) is the weird hierarchical stuff and classic Kirby advanced primitive tech and Kree connections.

i can't get over the person who pointed out the xmen and inhuman should be teaming up to deal with the cloud instead of civil war.
>>
>>84550819

It's hard to fit Atlantis and Wakanda together because they keep attempting genocide on one another.

>>
Also, like, Black Bolt lived in a soundproof chamber for most of his childhood learning never to speak at all before he fully joined Inhuman society. Black Bolt is Medusa's cousin, and Triton is a cousin to both of them. There's this medieval transformative society with all sorts of bizarre genetic caste shit and an Ancient Aliens origin. It's just so fucked up - please use that fucked up-edness.

>>84562596
The Latino > Native American equivalency there is totally nuts to me. Now he's on about a Europe Chavez, an Africa Chavez... But I do agree with you. It's a mix of possible consideration and trainwreck appeal, anything is better than blandness.
>>
>>84561659
>>84561672
Sure is /co/mblr in here
>>
>>84562856
It's complicated, because some Latinos are clearly mestizo (I am 100% unsure on the 'can you say that now?' status of that word) and there are a lot of Native people left in Mexico, who are variously shat upon by the government. And some Latinos are clearly just Spanish in ancestry and will get pretty annoyed if you consider them not white/European.

So I can see the argument for a native-of-sorts America.
>>
>>84563440
I think it's going a little too far when she's clearly not intended to be Native. But artist design I guess probably wouldn't matter too much anyway since at least he understands that she's still just a being that looks human anyway and wouldn't be actually attaching any sort of background to her.
>>
>>84563440
Yeah, I guess that's an angle. A lot of America's origins are left undefined so there's room to play with.
>>
>>84563524
She's drifted pretty far from the one-off Casey/Dragotta original already**, you could push it more places from here.

**no underwear, remember?
>>
>>84563563
As with everything else potentially on the table here, the "she's an American native in her home dimension but not native in any way to this one" could be an interesting take with depth or a preachy wish-fulfillment one. Schrödinger's America? You don't know whether this Miss America wears underwear or not until you look at the box.
>>
>>84563440
>It's complicated, because some Latinos are clearly mestizo (I am 100% unsure on the 'can you say that now?' status of that word)

As a mestizo, I grant you and everyone ITT permission to use the word, because that's apparently how it works.

Really though, it's fine to use mestizo, so long as you don't start getting all weird about just how much is enough; a bizarre "purity about being mixed," if you will. Closer to most anglos, Canadians use Métis all the time, too, with regards to mixed Amerindian/French-Canadians, and métis more broadly for all mixed Amerindians and Europeans.
