What are the best sword & sorcery comics? Conan, Red Sonja, etc.

Are any of these actually fun? I've wanted to get into Conan or Sonja but they seem so miserable and grimdark.

>but they seem so miserable and grimdark.
Just stick to your steven universe threads.
>>84539985
>miserable and grimdark
What do you expect from Conan, swashbuckling gaiety?
>>84539985
I guess it depends on what you find fun.
I tend to find well done action comics as fun.
A lot of it does come down to who is drawing it.

Art is a big factor.
It exists outside of Sonja and Conan
There are these two guys, and stuff like Den and a bunch of other series in Heavy Metal
Hellboy also fits into this a lot of the time.
Go back even further and get your Sunday Comics on.

you're welcome
He-Man obviously.

...story time?
This thread seems pretty perfect for random single story, storytimes that are spectacular.
GAZE UPON THE WORK OF ALEX NINO AND BE AMAZED.

Not of He-Man I got something much better.
How feasible would it be to use google to translate a book?
Anyone know any S&S comics that aren't a Conan clone?
Every one I find is "grizzled dude with sword #549 reluctantly goes on a quest"
Are there any with a wizard or bard-like protagonist?
That is the end of that one.

You have to be kinda pussy to not find grimdark and obscure stories fun, because, from my personal experience, those have been the most enterteining comics i have ever read.

Stories!

Well there's Mike Grell's The Warlord, which is more of a homage to the John Carter/Barsom series with some of Grell's own personal touches

Also Pat Mills' Requiem: Vampire Knight derserves a mention as well. Feels a lot like if Clive Barker (Hellraiser) did a sword and sworcery title. Follows this Nazi soldier through his re-awakening on this alternate earth where time goes backwards, people that die IRL get reincarnated as different kind of monsters with the vampire being the most prestigious

Conan isn't really grimdark, it's just really violent.
Even then the violence is more of the heroic blood and thunder, swashbuckling adventure variety. Conan is pretty jolly guy who just wants to get drunk, get laid, go on adventures and kill bad guys. Even the darker elements like monsters and sorcery are still played up in grand pulp fashion.
The "Conan is dark" thing mostly comes from metalheads and folks who see connections to lovecraft's stuff. In practice most of it is effectively R-rated Indiana Jones.
Try watching the original 80s Conan movie. It has different from the books in terms of characters and lore but it nails the mood and style perfectly. If the movie is still dark the books won't be worth a go.
