Thrawn himself has been re-canonized. Heir to the Empire (and other Legends stories he appeared in) is non-canon. Whatever Disney/Lucasfilm/Marvel/EA/etc. do with Thrawn from this point forward (barring obviously non-canon material, like the Phineas and Ferb Star Wars special or the Darth Vader and Son children's book) is canon.
