Why is it so important to dress her up as a harlequin? I think the majority of cape stuff looks either goofy, cheesy, or tacky as hell in real life (well, in the comics too sometimes); take the theme and the character and make something that fits (thematically, obvi) and looks good.

The character is more than the costume she wears. If having her wear something that doesn't look absolutely retarded (besides the logistical problems with wearing skintight clown bullshit for all waking hours) is misunderstanding the character, maybe there isn't really that much character to understand? Like, you can't have her be a real character and still wear a full jumpsuit 24/7, in doesn't work.
