I remember enjoying some of the older Cloak and Dagger comics, though I didn't have full runs, just bargain bin finds from when I was a kid.

Cloak and Dagger are those type of character who people SAY that they're interested in and want to see but nobody actually reads their stories because their books tend to not be all that interesting and neither are the characters themselves since at this point their entire characterization is basically B L A C K E D and not much beyond that.

I'd like it to play a lot with lighting and shadows. In general I feel there's a lot of potential for beautiful effects and scenery.

This. Also, I think, the tighter editorial grip on Spiderman doesn't let him cut loose. His older books felt way more daring and "freewheeling", his work on ASM felt stale for me since day one. The only exception to this was Doc Ock's takeover and the recent relaunch, but these felt like he was reined in by editorial as well and went stale pretty quickly, too.
