That is what happens, he's scared of it so he hates it. It has nothing to do with it turning him angry or savage. LOTS of people who dont actually read comics say that the symbiote feeds on his negative emotion, thats completely false. Peter wore the alien for barely a years worth of comics, and he was angry during that time period, only exacerbated by the fact that the symbiote would sometimes take him out at night while he slept, so he was always grumpy and tired, therefore kinda on edge. Peter was one angry dude in that time period, in his red suit, the symbiote, or the black suit, it didnt matter.
The symbiote has only ever canonically fed on his adrenaline and the neruochemical phenethylamine, which is both found in brain graymatter, and dark chocolate. This chemical keeps the symbiote "sane", and able to work correctly with a human. This is canon.
