Caught this on TV the other night. Having the horse speak only in narration was an odd choice, it should have been all or nothing.

What ever happened to 90's/early 00's semi-serious animal stories like this Balto?
>>
>>84490851
The guy should have tried to fuck Spirit into submission.
>>
>>84490851
This is the worst movie of all time. Bondage furry fantasy, you can't spell Bryan Adams without BDSM.

People realized making Lion King ripoffs will only result in everyone calling them Liok King ripoffs and no one will respect you.
>>
>>84490851
well they made 2 more balto movies, 2 brother bear movies

if the lower the seriousness bar a lot theres like 5 open season movies, the ice ages, like 4 or 5 alpha and omegas, and they probably made another land before time at some point

Because, someone in netflix' staff is a furry.

I think Spirit is a really terrible fucking movie.

Native Americans didn't act like that at all.
>>
>>84492001
God fucking damn, why
Is furry really that big a fandom?
>>
>>84492569
>different locale in South and Central America

Honestly I'd prefer a Road To Paradise series where they travel to different lost cities. "The Road to Shangri La" "The Road to Utopia" "The Road to Atlantis" "The Road to Eden" "The Road to Shambhala" etc.

I think it's some sort of money laundering scheme

I refuse to believe that a movie that flops would unironically get funding for 7 sequels

Heh, maybe we'll get even more once they finish the upcoming movies :)
>>
>>84492670
Yes. Why do you think it is one of the only things banned on nearly every board here?

>>
>>84493196
but why
>>
>>84490851
The plot was your boring Western Noble Savage thing, the 2D/3D never meshed, and the Bryan Adams songs were terrible. Some of the animation was pretty good, but then a cringe worthy "epic" CGI shot would come up.

Prince of Egypt was kind of the same, minus the 3D. Loved it as a kid, only realized how middling it was when I rewatched it recently.

While some people barely have enough money to pay their bills, furries have the income to move worlds.

I agree the '90s/2000s didn't need more talking animal movies (hell, we don't really need any right now), but then I agree with the "all or nothing" part in that so many animated movies start development from the mindset of "oh yeah, this is gonna be a super realistic movie, the animals won't talk, it'll be great." And then somewhere along the production line people change their minds because of marketability or whatever and the animals end up talking anyway.

I'm sure there are examples I'm forgetting where they don't talk, there have to be, but the only thing that's coming to my mind right now is something like Rite of Spring from Fantasia. And not only was that decades ago, but of course nothing talked because the whole movie was like that anyway.

I knew a girl like that in elementary. Would draw horses and wolves all the time.

She dyed her hair blonde and got into twerking in high school.

PoE still had some 3D, it was just less noticeable.
>>
>>84495409
Not animated, but the original Incredible Journey didn't have any talking animals, just a narrator speaking while the animals did the scenes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG--hBijCfk

Then in the 90s they made some remakes where the animals are dubbed to be talking the whole way through.

Literally nobody in the furry fandom cares about these movies. Something else is making them profitable.
>>
>>84496468
So it's back to what >>84492716 said, a money laundering scheme?
>>
>>84496505
Could be that. Could be some loophole in a law like the ones Uwe Boll abused to make bad video game movies that nobody watched somehow profitable. Maybe the direct-to-video market is more profitable that any of us thought it could be and all these sequels are in fact being bought by countless clueless grannies looking for christmas gifts. Who knows?
>>
>>84490851
The LAST thing we needed was Rain and Esperanza speaking. No mares in america would be safe after that. Damn movie already made people aware of how a horse can be hot without overblown Bluth gimmicks like human lips. Give them voices? We couldn't take it.

Well, when I worked at a supermarket we did actually sell this shit. All the ten Foodfight! DVDs we got shipped in sold at 9,99€ a piece. Stuff that didn't sell got discounted every other week by a couple of euros, and would be bought by dumb shits thinking they found a great deal. I cant remember if we ever shipped anything back to the distributor...

When producing a DVD costs like 2€ including shipping it to the store, there certainly is a nice profit margin.
