Personally, as someone who only recently (the past 2-3 years) found Mignola, everything he writes is much better collected into story-arc chunks.
Like, I remember the black girl writing the letter in this book, but since it's been months since I read it, I'm real vague on specifics.
All of this is good, but reading it together and in the right orders just takes it to the next higher level of amazing.

Yeah, but I've never been clear on ow HB's death works: Hell seems to be a physical place, so there's no reason he couldn't just climb back out, albeit without a pulse.
We'll stick with the symbolism idea, it makes sense in-universe where monsters and ghosts operate on their own esoteric rules.
