Man, today has been a real shitshow, hasn't it?
Any Canadian Anons in the audience?
Fun Fact John Byrne didn't want to do this, but he was told if he said no they would just give it to someone else. Not wanting to see someone get his characters "wrong" he took the assignment
>>84455986
Ah, classic Byrne.
>>84456014
Oh hey, it's Wild Child.
Didn't know Byrne was still alive either.
>>84456014
I'm amazed that he could pencil and ink two ongings at once. He was still on Fantastic Four
>>84456049
He did the same thing on Superman. Byrne was fast as fuck in his prime.
>>84456035
There's a twitter feed dedicated to pulling quotes from his personal forum called John Byrne says, it's a great thing
He stopped going to cons awhile ago, but he's going to show up to a Trek con and has made a big point that he will not sign anything that isn't Trek related
>>84455921
Aye Bub, wus that cumment aboot Canadians?
Oooh soory thar, but ey dun't think ey can let that thar go so easy-like.
Aye, gunna hafta pop tha ol' claws thar now. Soory 'boot this...
Grrrr, Bub. Y'know.
>>84456035
I think Wild Child is dead currently, both 616 and AoA.

> The Canadian military is so polite you can assault a guard and get off with a warning
Man they beat the American army back in the Invasion of Quebec and have been cocky ever since
>>84456028
>I wonder if Captain America has problems like this?
Depends if Steve gets an asshole like Gyrich on his case that month.
And good 'ol Alpha Flight: A government team fighting for Marvel's most evil government, Canada.
>>84455986
Oh? is that from his forum?
>>84456628
Gyrich was such a great foil, whatever happened to him?
Did he get a surgery and change his name to Maria Hill?
>>84456938
I'm pretty sure he was in the Johns Avengers run
There were some rough years for Gyrich after Shooter left. The thing is Gyrich was a stand in for Shooter's step father. You may have hated him, but ultimately he was always trying to do the right thing
Once Shooter got the boot some writers who hated him just made the character a straight up bad guy as a big fuck you to the former EiC

Sorry, my internet shat itself for no raisin

It sucks that Captain Marvel hijacked Alpha Flight
>>84458608
Alpha Flight has been dead since Byrne left the solo at issue 32 or so
The fact that Northstar escaped to join the X-Men is nothing short of a miracle.
>>84458655
That doesn't justify Captain Marvel hijacking Alpha Flight. IT SUCKS, considering that they always sold better than her shitbook
>>84458161
FYI: That shit's happening all over for some reason.
My phone had a weird date glitch today, the credit card gizmo at the grocery was fucked for the folks in line infront of me, a website I shop on had to take my order by phone, the archives here are fucked, TV feeds are spotty...
If this is an ad stunt for MR. ROBOT season 2 I'm going to be pissed.
>>84458655
Miracles, by their very definition, do not exist: were is Northstar now?
>>84458792

i almost missed this

Puck is Alpha Flight's Logan.
Still trying to keep your connection together, OP? I've known of Alpha Flight, but this is the first time I've read them on their own (not counting their crossover with Kurt and Logan), and I'm liking the dynamic.
>>84464030
Same here.
>>84455978
>Any Canadian Anons in the audience?
Since this is auxiliary to the main series, sure I'll come along.
Also, Alpha Flight is good comics most of the time.
>>84456147
Nah, he was killed off in Romulus's stupid mutant fight club shit when Omega Red tossed him in molten metal, which was stupid given Wild Child's speed and reflexes, but later showed up... I think in Aaron's run on Wolverine, when Sabertooth threw himself a Back from the Dead party and Wolvie showed up to beat up all the random villains who were there. It was REALY dumb. But yeah, Wild Child had a cameo, and has since been listed as alive in an official Marvel character database.
He's been in limbo ever since, though. Such a waste of potential, what with Sabertooth being neutered by Scarlet Witch, Wolverine being dead, and Daken being healing factor-less and supposedly sick and dying and one armed.... And Feral is still dead I think.... Marvel could use some feral mutants for once.
I have a real soft spot for Alpha Flight, myself. Such a shame the franchise seems absolutely cursed. I think the only character who really did well at all was Northstar, and I think that ended up being largely due to his status as the first gay character Marvel had.
Everyone else just gets shit on or used as fodder half the time. Especially the ones who weren't original Alpha team members.
Lil's pointless death still pisses me off, as well as Madison Jeffries getting nurfed to hell and then forgotten by X-book writers and editors. And Wild Child has suffered so much poor handling that no one even recognizes the character from book to book.
Alright, sorry for the wait, I think my connection should be fine now.
>choke
lol
I kinda miss shit like that in comics desu
>DISEMBOWELED

Bretty cool design honestly

So basically, Vandal Savage with more body horror.
Surprise guest appearance!
>no readers, John hasn't gone senile... yet
Ouch
I'm sure there's no way they survived that. No siree.
>Puck can't even have a full issue after being out of action for two issues
rip
>>84470366
That's legitimately awesome. Real shame how far off a cliff Byrne fell.
Ah yes, the infamous "John Byrne tricks his way out of drawing five pages" issue
>>84471942
Yeah, now he's making Star Trek photocomics or some shit. Christ.
I still can't decide if I really like this or really hate it.
Actually, you know what? I do like it but not because it's clever, but because it's really, really silly.
That's all for now, come back later for more Alpha Flight!
>>84455978
I like Leaf-Mans costume a lot, even though the red ensign is the better flag.
>>84470542
Sexy.
>>84472964
I swear he must have done that just to take the piss out of the editors. He was kind of forced into doing the AF comic when he didn't really want to, and then when he tried to do innovative stuff with it, such as having an openly gay super hero, they fought him on it to the point of him becoming incredibly bitter about the book.
>>84472654
Snowbird in a Blizzard is the greatest gag Byrne's ever done and maybe the best in comics.
sad i missed discussion
>>84472911
>Shaman comes Sorcerer Supreme approved.
>>84456035
>Oh hey, it's Wild Child.
And Madison Jeffries, and Diamond Lil.
>>84456086
Despite being like 100% bullshit "Indian Magic" superheroes, I feel like the Twoyounmen are both pretty good characters and you could really do worse with representation than them.
>>84476620
Dani has the same kinda problem sadly
>>84456185
So this is basically just Northstar trying to get his sister into slut mode so they can go get dicked together, isn't it?
>>84469073
I think Sabretooth will become the serious boyfriend of M.
Because she will probably fuse with her brother Emplate, and she coulf always eat the marrow bone of Creed ince it would grow back.
>>84456308
Huh, they have Codec implants.
>>84456450
>Newfie

>>84463137
Puck is Wolverine, but better.
He's Shorter.
He's just as old.
He's not a slobbering serial killer.
His unrequited crush on a redhead was significantly less creepy that Logan/Jean, too.
>>84476573
I'm not the only one who loves all three of them?
>>84476830
M as in Monet? Wat?! I've really lost track of these characters and I'm beginning to feel lucky for it.
>>84477011
I have to say I liked Wolverine better with those character flaws back when he was Logan than as the fucking Larry-Sue named James Howlett.
I hope he stays dead.
>>84457293
Alpha Flight is basically all mental patients.
Like, I think Shaman, Sasquatch, and Snowbird might have been Mac's only initial recruits that weren't psychologically damaged.
>>84458655
>Alpha Flight has been dead since Byrne left the solo at issue 32 or so
Come on, man, Mantlo did some good work.
We got Lionel Jeffries going full body horror and melding with Bochs, and Wanda Langowski out of it.
>>84477223
Northstar was ok, just arrogant.
But yeah, the flight program was a mess. It bugs me that people love Mac so much when he was basically a massive fuck up on so many levels. They love him for his idealism even though his idealism was stupid and ineffective, hurt people, and got himself killed.
And it bugs me that subsequent writers never addressed the fact that the Omega Flight members were victims in their own right.
>>84477347
>Northstar was ok, just arrogant.
In the 1970s, homosexuality was still in the DSM, anon.
It isn't anymore, but it was at the time.
>>84477291
We also got the death of Bochs, badly out of character Heather, evil bitch Aurora, and absurdly OP Madison Jeffries.
I agree he had some neat ideas but he had no sense of restraint and really wrecked the team. Isn't he the one who made Puck cursed by a jin trapped in him, and made it that this is why he's a dwarf instead of just you know, having fucking dwarfism? That was absolute shit.
The book really jumped the shark when Mac came back from the dead. There was some cool stuff after that, but so bogged down by terrible art and fucked up continuity. Really is tragic.
>>84477462
That doesn't change the fact that it wasn't really a mental illness in hindsight. The DSM proved to be wrong about some things.
It's a shame what the digital coloring touch up has done to the line work. I really wish they'd re-publish Byrne's run in black and white.
>>84477203
they are both in Uncanny X-Men and have been flirting, and it has been leaked by future comic book covers that M will fuse with her brother Emplate, who is in bad health because mutants are dying and he feeds on the marrow bone of mutants.
the book is actually good, but what I wrote above is still speculationl
>>84478235
>the book is actually good
I don't think I can ever get over 616 Sabertooth being magicked into heroism. Do they even address what a fucked up person he was or do they write him like he's a new character?
I really wish someone would just kill off Scarlet Witch and keep her fucking dead.
>>84478142
collecting Uncanny I decided to get Essentials for the Byrne run bc sweet sweet b/w
>>84478422
Same. I wish they'd do more B&W. Cuts cost anyhow, and especially with classic comics the coloring was usually bad or not really necessary.
But even with some modern comics, you'd have bad coloring blighting good linework sometimes.
>>84478380
he did tell Nightcrawler in the Civil War X Men tie in last that it may have been better to kill him (Creed) when he was an innocent kid to prevent all the evil he did as an adult. That is when they were discussing the morality of using the precognitive powers of Ulysses.
I think he is a former cannibal, and perhaps a rapist too (obviously, a huge Carnage tier murderer too)
>>84456014
>beta flight
>features a fat manlet
lel
>>84478633
I hate precognition when it's handled as though the future is unchangeable.
Yep, yep, and yep, on top of other criminal behavior and sadism.
Wild Child is a cannibal, murderer, and occasional sadist, too, but he was pretty much forced to become a monster and has tried to redeem himself and just can't keep his head together. It's a shame no one's fixing him with magic. Truly no justice in the Marvel Universe. I still wish they'd decide what his link to Sabertooth is, too. They hinted at them being father and son for so long and then dropped it.
>>84478380
>I don't think I can ever get over 616 Sabertooth being magicked into heroism
The really stupid thing is that they did that how long after killing AoA Sabretooth, who was already a hero for years in Exiles.
>>84456297
I wonder if Puck was modeled after Mad Dog Vachon.
>>84479127
Agreed. Someone on here was arguing with me once that this is good because now 616 Sabertooth can be AoA Sabertooth and team up with 616 Wild Child. I can't begin to explain how wrong and forced that would be. For Christ's sake don't kill off the characters if people want stories about them that bad.
The only way 616 Wild Child should even be in the same room as Sabes at this point is if he's trying to kill him. And AoA Sabertooth found redemption naturally, it wasn't forced on him. I really really hope WC stays in limbo if it's the only way to keep this kind of nonsense from coming about eventually.
>>84456086
For those not in the know, names like Twoyoungmen are common for Alberta natives. My personal favorite is "Shot Both Sides"
>>84471540
ROFL!!!! he's TOO short to reach the phone you cannot make this stuff up
>>84470742
Mature man, teenage girl. Byrne seems to be quite fond of this theme. I think about an Elseworld story when teenage Lana gets to french kiss geriatric Superman. Also, in Next Men, with young teen girls getting inpregnated with mutates.
>>84479378
>cannot make this stuff up
anon...
>>84479529
How old was Mac? I think it used to be pretty common for younger women to prefer older men who have accomplished something because they are stable and better providers, while older men would desire younger women due to them being in their physical prime for reproduction.
As roles became less divided by gender, this went from being a mutually beneficial arrangement to one that could rob the younger woman of her potential and give the the man too much control over her. So now society increasingly sees an age gap as creepy.
The crushes still are quite common, though.
>>84479317
>now 616 Sabertooth can be AoA Sabertooth and team up with 616 Wild Child
But that happened. In the 90s. In X-Factor, where Victor had a shock collar on. And then Sabertooth just went back to being murderman.
>>84479836
I know, I have those issues, Kyle was kind of adorable, but they weren't like AoA. He didn't want to work with Sabertooth and Sabes constantly tried to bring him over to villainy. Then they were forced to team up again in Weapon X with even more devastating results for Wild Child. The idea of them ever working together of their own free will is just ridiculous to me. Ether writers or editorial tried to force it twice already and they really need to stop and let the characters be their own character.
4chan = home
>>84480002
Who are you replying to?
>>84479690
Be quiet, Byrne, for all our sakes.
>>84481291
Remember all the teen girls who wanted to fuck Allen Rickman? How many male teens want to fuck a famous woman of the same age as he was?
>>84470693
That's a cute jacket.
And man, Byrne was going full Golden Age on Namor's forehead.

>>84470925
I forget, was Jeanne-Marie at Northstar's wedding?
>>84470941
Thank God that Sasquatch changed into his man-form to calm down Jeanne-Marie, meaning that he wasn't a huge Big Foot-creature when they "knew each other very well"! With Byrne, one can not be certain of such things ahead of time.
