Too subtle. They need to dedicate 30 more filler episodes to telling us about it, including an episode about baseball where they outright say that they can't go more than 5 minutes without thinking about boning eachother, er I mean "fusion".

Besides, there are barely any F/F couples on TV, I think they're allowed to be just as hammy about it as most writers are with M/F couples.

Okay, let's be reasonable for a sec. Having an F/F couple on TV? Not a big problem. Making their gayness the defining feature of their characters? That strikes me as disturbing.

You can claim that Sapphire is passive aggressive, and Ruby is hot headed, and those are character traits. However, those take a back seat to them constantly having gem sex on the brain, to the point where they willingly throw a ball game against hostile invaders because they needed to bump vectors so badly.
>>

wow just wow good job showcasing your ignorance fucking misogynist nazi pig oppressing imaginary women because of their sexuality makes you literally worse than hitler
>>
>>84440081
Its not the gayness that's the defining trait it's the relationship.

Now one could use that as a basis for criticism there but to say its about the gayness is just seeing things in a way that allows you to be offended in the same way tumblr uses it as a basis to convince themselves they are being pandered to.
>>
>>84440081
>Okay, let's be reasonable for a sec. Having an F/F couple on TV? Not a big problem. Making their gayness the defining feature of their characters? That strikes me as disturbing.

Is making the straightness of an M/F couple their defining trait disturbing?

Also, I actually think that their attraction takes a backseat to their individual traits and that their individual traits are readily apparent even when they talk about their attraction, but hey, what do I know?

I really like how people pull out this argument when defending the show.
>>
>>84440175
Who do you think the cartoon airing on cartoon network is made for?

I hear bronies make the same argument. the fact that manchildren have latched onto a show doesn't change the fact that it's made for children,
>>
>>84440175
Complaining a children's show is too blatant for you, an adult, is pathetic. Go watch something for your target demographic if you crave nuance and complexity.

>>
>>84440296
What do you want? So they hug and Garnet sings, they make-up and kiss once, they have an episode about the beginning of their relationship, they have a comedic episode and they play the doofy couple. Seriously, what do you want from them? They're hardly there. I know kids aren't stupid, but do we seriously need them like fucking quietly brooding over their feelings or some shit? How else do you want to feature them so that they have a bit of character depth and a strong relationship, but the show doesn't lose its focus or become to bogged down by the writers hassling with Ruby and Sapphire.

Lesbian couples are rare in adult fiction and it's even rarer for them to be happy and stay together/not die. Kids can really benefit from seeing an unabashedly happy, unambiguous gay couple, both if they themselves are gay or for when they meet people who are.

Seriously, what do you want?

But it's not what they are doing. Just because it's all you can see doesn't mean it's all there is.

Ruby is first and foremost presented as an angry little midget.

Sapphire is first and foremost featured as a cold bitch who got disabused by seeing everything that is bound to happens. Them being in love is only a part of what define them.

kek, that's really something that can't be assessed until they're about 16, I think being born gay is a meme, you need time to think about who you really are. When I was 15, I thought I was an edgy bisexual.

kek, now that I'm 23, I would largely identify as straight, because I'm smart enough to realize just because you'd be willing to fuck a girl doesn't make you a lesbian if you like dudes 90% of the time. Bisexuals are a meme.

>I especially like how the Crewniverse blew all their budget on Nicki Minaj so early in the show's run it legitimately affected the show's production quality in the long run

While I doubt this happened using really big celebrity voice actors is usually stupid, using musicians is stupid and yeah the whole thing was fucking stupid for the sake of a contrivance mainly to appeal to Sugar. It's telling that the Broadway rando they got to voice Sardonyx instead of Janelle Monae was the best of the three, it turns out actually having some acting experience is an asset in voice acting. Also they could get her and not keep fucking Sinbad? He was actually good in S1.
>>
>>84440816

Agreed with this. I think the big thing is that they can't function without the other, it's what makes them so prone to fusing. They lose all of their balance the moment they're unfused, so it's awful for them to be separate.

It's still very gay.

>>84439900

Whether it's "all porn is evil and sexist"/"anti-shipping is good because that pairing is 'problematic'" or "these two hot bitches shouldn't make out or fuck ever because that's 'SJW' and all dyke porn is muh da Jewz agenda durrrrr" people should shut the fuck up. >>
>>84440116

>Is making the straightness of an M/F couple their defining trait disturbing
Yes, it is. It's reducing them to a singular trait based on outer behaviors, instead of giving the character a personality.

You know what my favorite gay couple on TV is? The two guys from Mission Hill. They were in a loving relationship, but it wasn't the defining trait of their characters. They were funny, multidimensional people who felt like real people, and they just so happened to be gay.

The entirety of Ruby and Sapphire's relationship is "ZOMG SCANDALOUS LESBO SEX". Or in the case of the gem homeworld's standards, they'd be considered "coalburners" in /pol/ speak, due to intergem relationships.

They only get angry/passive aggressive when the plot demands it. Otherwise it never comes up.
>>
>>84448796

...Rose died.
>>
>>84448985
Yeah, I was hoping to learn more about them as characters on their split up episodes, but it turns out those where only ever about their relationship.

Now Kora, that was the worst pandering I've ever seen. Literally just slapped in there at the last season to keep the show from being forgettable.
>>
>>84449116

Korra could've been redeemed if her and Asami had character besides "boring lesbos".
>>
>>84448985
>The entirety of Ruby and Sapphire's relationship is "ZOMG SCANDALOUS LESBO SEX"

Except no it isn't, not at all. It's just another reflection on the show's theme of empathy/understanding those different from you + "permanent fusion" (so again, empathy) as viewed as a bad thing by Homeworld. Empathy vs. Imperialism yet again.

They are just minor characters meant to illustrate that theme.

Beyond that it's just standard Reason and/vs. Emotion shit.

>>84449150
>besides "boring lesbos".

Korra and Asami weren't even lesbian at all on the show proper and Korrasami wasn't in the actual show itself at all. There are many Korra complaints, but that isn't one of them because Korrasami wasn't a thing that actually really happened on the show and characterization problems lay completely elsewhere.
>>
>>84448985
It's not about the homosexually it's about the relationship.

You might be able to criticise that but thinking it's about teh gay is just wrong
