Basically, most of the time I have no actual powers beyond peak human physical condition. However, upon receiving a fatal/grievous wound within a few minutes my body becomes infused with energy and regenerates back to peak physical condition. For a short periods of time after being reanimated, my physical abilities are supercharged as I 'work off' the excess life energy, or I can dump it out all at once in the form of a hard to control energy blast, or to bestow a healing effect on someone I can touch.
This makes me the one best suited to being thrown into dangerous situations instead of others, but I don't actually have superpowers until the shit has already severely hit the fan.
If I die while already in supercharged mode from a previous reanimation, things get dangerous. Every time I die in succession, the more energy I come back with. This isn't as good as it sounds, but after 2 deaths in a row I can only barely control it and after that it just gets worse, becoming a hazard to myself and others. Presumably, if I die too often in a short period of time I will just melt into energy entirely, take out a whole city with me, and never reform.
The good news is that my superpower lets me perform types of training that are outright suicidal. Even before my first death, when I still have only peak human physical ability, I have the advantage of having used my power to train against things that would kill me in a single hit often enough that I can get really, really good at avoiding that hit in the first place.
Think of it like having played a video game so much that you know the boss your are fighting well enough that you can perform no-hit runs. Maybe not all the time, but fairly reliably.
So my general combat tree goes:

Nah, he still suffers from all the same downsides of regeneration type heroes. Even worse, in most cases, unless your ONLY goal is to kill him.
If your goal is to stop him, all you need to do is trap him somehow. Locking him behind a solidly build door will do it, because he doesn't have superstrength. Finding a way to immobilize him takes him out of the fight without giving him a powerup, and he is presumably still as vulnerable as anyone to psychic attacks and shit like being turned to stone.
Hell, if all you are trying to do is commit some crime, there isn't any reason to just shoot him. It takes a few minutes for his reanimation to go off, so you can just pump him full of lead, take the money, and leave. By the time he wakes up, he won't know where you are and you can make your getaway.
He also has the downside of being a timebomb if forced to fight anything way more powerful than him. If you put this guy in a room with Darkseid, Darkseid will just keep killing him until he blows himself up.

Of course none of you want downsides or debuffs. You all pick the overpowered stuff to make you untouchable because obviously if you can just 'choose your power' you'd have to be retarded to have anything less than the best.
This is why comic characters don't get to choose powers (unless they make themselves i.e. ironman/batman). Heck, they don't usually have a choice in receiving them.
Villans are usually the overpowered ones, which from a storytelling standpoint is usually something for the hero to overcome.
Honestly, I'd want to have the power to debuff others powers. Neutralize the foe, and take them down in a street brawl. Maybe gain a small strength buff per person i weaken. I'd be ineffective against tech users (unless they use powers to control machines).
And let's add in the ultimate power to remove another persons power permanently (Amon style).

Naturally of course, this type of power set will probably end up with me outing myself and I'll get the "YOU DON'T GET TO DECIDE THINGS LIKE THIS" and I'll be labeled a criminal but that's part of the fun. Also my ability would prevent me from ever being held in any sort of prison because any types of restraints or walls I can just dissolve. They'd be forced to keep me completely drugged up/comatose and then they'd be pretty much killing me themselves in all but the action of doing so, so I'd get a moral victory over them.

If you stopped in the Endbringer Invasion arc you are missing the fuck out on some shit. The other two endbringers are even worse with Behemoth having control over all forms of energy and Simurgh having perfect clairvoyance and city-scale telephaty and telekinesis. Leviathan sinks, Behemoth leaves a nuclear/magma wasteland and the Simurgh makes cities to be walled off or bubbled, since minutes of contact with the people in there makes them potential terrorist/psychopaths that you never know when will snap from seeded thoughts.

I'm not THAT much of a reader, so I have to admit I don't have a big basis on what the public would refer to being "well written books" that haven't already been read by the majority. I'm a simple guy with simple tastes and I like my Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and Tolkien.
Maybe I had too much of an easy time relating to some characters with the whole premise of the novel being "doing the right thing through the wrong means". I can understand the character not wanting to report a problem because it lets her stay out of the spotlight. I can understand people angry at the system and I can understand the way the author deals with people's feelings like a father's conflict with his lack of courage to talk about his daughter's problems with her.
I had to allow some characters to grow on me and I have to say that it just worked. You get steady input as the story goes on the mysteries surrounding it like how powers work and where they come from, secondary character's motivations etc; and the author managed to make the stakes always higher to a level that always surprises me over and over.
So yeah, in my opinion it gets better, if not in the way its written, in its setting. But that's because I became a fan of it and I like creative powers like Tattletale's or Accord's. But you should always draw your own conclusions.

Oh the whole school thing in the very first two chapters? That gets thrown out the window pretty quickly as shit goes down. It comes back later as merely a way to show how much the main characters perspective has changed on whats really worth her time in a problem. It turns out to be an actual liberating scene where thegirl who bullied her insistis on trying to get on her nerve but the MC has so much shit going on already that she just basically spits a "fuck off" and walks away. It becomes a subplot real quick without it affecting her personality and behavior though. I can see where it bothers you, and I can see where some chapters might bother you again with their focus being on stupid kids and teenagers, because, well, they exist, except in this setting they might have powers.
I'd say that the first Interlude in arc 1 (essentially chapter 6) is the first effort to set in the world as a world with super powers and it's a damn good one.

If I ever turn to the dark side I can just remove all the air from the bubble. Or float the badguy into space. Toss him in the ocean and make the bubble super dense so it just sinks. Would be pretty neat. Sort of lazy green lantern.
Oh also I always wanted the ability to make my drawings come to life.

Id rather be a sideline hero with the ability to increase other heroes powers like that one guy from HEROES. It would be limited by being time based maybe only last a couple of minutes.

Kinda specific, but I'd want generic flying brick powers... with the addition that I can generate a kind of healing light at the cost of temporarily lowering my overall strength/speed/resilience.
If that counts as too many powers, then biological manipulation is fine too.
