We already have a resident cranky anon, we don't need one with no sense of humor.

I realized at some point last night that Steve Lieber is kind of in the Maguire tradition of "memorably cartoony reaction faces"; although he doesn't do the same degree of detail, he's willing to do the sweatdrops and the motion lines and the weird expressions.

I'm dying to know what they have Bagenda lined up for next, I'm really glad they're going to keep him on. I feel like the international nature of artists is pretty underrated in the 'diversity' discussion.
>>
>>84380976
>Booster'll be fine. He's got a flight ring.
Booster's wiki page claims he's from the 25th century, yet the museum pieces he stole are a Legion flight ring and Brainy's forcefield belt. One way or another, the math does quite add up there.

>>84381086
Yeah, we ran into that when we read through Legion--I forget exactly how it got resolved, but it did

Artists are pretty underrated in general. Bagenda made more of an impact on me on the second read, not sure why. I would like to see him work with Fajardo again.

>>
>>84381350
>>
>>84381273
It depends how you wanna define it. I've had the languages as common tongues between churches of the same alignment and as languages originating from the speech of outsiders - who I tend to tag with weird communication styles anyway. I haven't but would like to try a high concept metaphysics thing where the alignment tongue really is all it promises to be and if you're good you can speak a magical good language. But I don't really play D&D anymore.

Even beyond that you've got to consider how detailed the language is. Maybe it only suffices to describe certain things, so if you speak Good you can only speak about good things when you do. Then, maybe the language isn't the same between the speaker and the listener: maybe what you say in Chaotic isn't what the listener hears, and maybe different listeners here different things. Like I say, I think there's room for a lot there.
>>
>>84381286

I always had a headcanon that Superman was uncomfortable around Reagan, like he knew the world was in the edge of a nuclear war and he always had to report back to one of the people who had their finger on that big red button lest that war break out. Thing I hate:

I don't think RiRi will be written well, but even so, I really wish she wouldn't be "Iron MAN" right now, for obvious reasons. I don't think Bendis is about to write a trans man plot, and if he is, may god have mercy on us all.

And on the other hand, I know why they won't give her her own name, or even just call her Iron Woman because her sales would fucking tank.

And on the other other hand, when they do give her her own spinoff book/independent name, her sales WILL tank, especially while Tony comes back.

They're really going all in on the "here's the legacy character taking the main role... annnnnd here's the main guy back again, please don't leave us older buyers!"

I have been reading, lately, some annoyed Thor fans who *love* the ladies of Asgard, but who want to read a Thor book about Thor, and bought Journey into Sifstery, but have dropped Jane's book because they didn't like it, and don't appreciate the 'pissbabies' stuff.
>>
>>84382421
They always do this shit. Instead of using previously established characters, they always make up somebody new. The big two really have a recurring problem of not using what they already have.

Take Cyborgirl for instance. Being Victor's cousin and someone who hates his guts, you'd think she'd be a recurring rogue. But nope, she has yet to appear in his current ongoing.
>>
>>84382523
>Alonso: I'm surprised by the tone and tenor and the fractured chain of logic to some of the reaction. I think it's entirely possible for someone to say they hate the twist, that it's lame or boring or whatever, but to take it to accusations of Anti-Semitism and personal attacks while invoking Stan Lee -- who voiced his support for the story -- Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, that's an entirely different thing, and it speak volumes about Internet culture and the culture of our comics press. There are plenty of comic book columnists that feast on buzzword controversies like this -- it's their bread and butter -- but there's a real problem when the discourse becomes so shrill that others are scared to say what they think for fear of being labeled insensitive to the issue. I have spoken with numerous comic book journalists who'll tell me in private what they won't say in public. I'll ask why, and they'll hem and haw before they basically admit that they don't want the aggravation that will result. Is that a free exchange of ideas? Is that the type of culture we want? Thankfully, a few comic book columnists did some actual research and stepped up to the plate.

He's not wrong...and yet....yet....

>>
>>84382489
They've got some really quality spin machine over there. To be fair, there is no shortage of bigots, online or in their letters, giving them shit. But they can turn away criticism of their basic writing to criticism FROM people of the groups they're writing about in any way they want.

Alonso did a sneaky little weasel trick when the only person he referred to criticizing the hip hop covers was the white critic. Bendis breezily dismissed queer critics of the handling of Iceman's coming out scenes. And Brevoort pretty much ignored any and all criticism about Red Wolf and 1602 by a native critic.

Big quality spin machine over there. So long as no one ever admits a mistake was made, it didn't happen.

He is absolutely wrong that comic creators are "scared" to say what they think.

If anything, they seem to become incredibly emboldened and double down after criticism over there.

Also, fucking receipts on those comic book journalists, Alonso. Odds are they're all CBR people who practically have to report to you, or Newsarama or iFanboy goons. Every other site isn't getting your exclusives anymore cuz they've taken it to you too many times, even CA which was initially lax as fuck about them.

The thing is, it doesn't matter if the criticism is legitimate or not, he'll ignore all of it. There's plenty of legitimate Jewish fan concerns about the handling of Hydra, nazi plots, Jewish characters and themes in general, and I don't believe for a minute he'd hear them out. They'd get lumped in with everyone else.
>>
>>84382540
Don't the creators of characters now get paid when the characters appear? Meaning that Bendis is unlikely to use Rhodes's neice since it means that someone OTHER than him would be making money.

It reeks of greed, to the point where I'm not posting this theory anywhere else because there's enough good people in these threads to NOT make the obvious racist jokes.

Gray Man has a legitimate gripe here. Like I can understand punishing man for his hubris and all that, but this is a little much for playing Cosmic Peeping Tom.

Pfft. Ted, pls.

Blue Beetle Rebirth has so much potential. It'll be a damn shame when they inevitably fuck it up.

Though it doesn't justify a Gray Man zombie apocalypse, obvs.

The universe doesn't cotton well to cosmic peeping toms.

I remember it was Marilyn Manson, which probably dates me.

You know Booster's panickedly thinking "WHY WOULD SOMEONE TAKE ON A BIRD NAME IF THEY CAN'T FLY?"

Marilyn Manson is the one everyone always talked about, to the point that he even commented on the rumor.

Gypsy was part of the short-lived and ill-fated Justice League Detroit era.

She, like Vibe, greatly benefited from the New 52 in being wholly rebooted.

It's pretty batshit by modern standards and somehow I still vastly prefer it to Darkseid.

Darkseid just kind of seems like a "too soon" thing. I don't generally like big villains in origin stories like that, exception would be for newer characters who get seeded after the established ones.

At the same time, very little actual NEW comes out of them nowadays. It's almost all Here's A New Gender/Race Version of [Established Character]
