How strong is Superman? What is his maximum strength?
>>
>>84375812
superman is plot strong and his maximum strength is plot +1
>>
Why
>>
>>84375812
As strong as he needs to be unless the writer wants him to not be strong enough
>>
He's as strong as he needs to be, literally
>>
You know when you're playing Power Stone and the announcer says "POWERFUL!"?

That how strong he is.
>>
>>84375812
You have to be specific, because it depends on the Superman.
>>
>>84375812
>What is his maximum strength?
He has no limit to the amount of solar energy he can absorb.
>>
>>84376027
Except in ASS where he absorbed so much he got godlike power before almost dying of super-cancer.
>>
>>84375812
Not as strong as Madara Uchiha
>>
>>84376088
Only in that.
>>
>>84375871
>>84375940
This is what plebs who never read Superman think.

It depends on version.

For instance, New 52 could "bench press" planets but it would struggle with nukes and other radiation blasts.
>>
>>84375812
He's as strong as .75 glon units. Golden age was .245 folgs, plus or minus a few drebs.
>>
>>84375812
Superman is what you call a small planet buster meaning he can dish out enough force to destroy the earth but something like the mass of Jupiter or Saturn would beyond him. Beings that can destroy stars and there are alot of them in DC would see him like an ant. His speed is faster than light but its nothing Silver Surfer level now.
>>
>>84376203
>its nothing Silver Surfer level now.

kek Silver surfer isnt that fast, he warps, just like superman in space. Also pleb.
>>
Superman should logically only be capable of using fraction of the energy the sun produces thats why he can destroy planets but he cant destroy stars unless we go to Silver Age bullshit where he survives something that destroys a galaxy with the energy OF FUCKING STARS.
>>
>>84376144
I do read Superman and he's so fucking inconsistent that I realized the only way it makes sense is as a meta thing.

All Star Superman is the strongest version except for MAYBE Silver Age Superman.
>>
>>84376564
You have to take each writers Superman as their own character.

Silver Age writers like Otto Binder and Garnder Fox Superman blew out universes with his sneeze and punched stars. His durability was even worse and was set at fuck you if it wasn't magic red sun or kryptonite. He flew so fast he broke infinity. He could time travel at will. Molecular control did nothing to him.

He once traveled to the beginning of the universe and survived the Big Bang.

Grant Morrison in Supergods wrote that Silver Age Superman had feats to rival the Hindu gods. He was right.

And Grant Morrison Superman is even more powerful.

I think my favorite Superman moment in my reading of old Silver Age stuff is in a Gardner Fox JLA story where he has to race and beat a robotic clone with all his powers.

He wins because metal eventually gets tired and worn down while he never gets tired. His stamina is infinite.

Just a moment that made me grin like a little boy.
>>
>>84376740
They're both basically the same character. All Star is just less puckish and more chill.
>>
>>84376543
He's a super converter that takes in solar energy and turns it into infinity. He's the mythological concept of the infinite and undying sun connected to the real life ball of gas.
>>

He actually got a *boost* over this in Nu52, going from quintillion ton range (10^18) to sextillion ton range (10^21).

This is why DC v Marvel comparisons are pointless, the two settings have entirely different power scales where the latter tries to keep the strength scales not too far away from the 100 ton range. Now even Gruenwald allowed for wiggle room, the "Class 100+" category was essentially undefined, we've seen characters like Hulk and Thor pull off stunts that without a doubt required much, much greater strength than a mere 100 ton press. But is Thor pushing 6000 sextillion tons? I don't think we've seen him ever come close to that level.

IMO, in the JLA vs Avengers crossover series, much like Flash and Scarlet Witch found himself having to obey the different rules of the alternate reality, strength levels should have adjusted upwards or downwards.

BTW, that 5.972 sextillion tons value? It just happens to be the calculated "weight" of Earth.
>>
>>84378383
>1/3 of Goku's power

Goku is universe level now
>>
>>84379154
If he keeps roiding he'll rival Saitama. Eventually. Maybe.
>>
>>84376740

Didn't Pre-Crisis Superman throw a neutron star like it was a baseball?
>>
>>84376747
I miss Silver Age Superman. 100% invulnerability, infinite durability against physical attacks. It was awesome.
>>
>>84376144
Nu52 Clark was basically the berserker build Superman in that in terms of offensive output he was on par with All-Star at his best, but his endurance was much lower.
>>
You kinda have to be specific. Are you talking about how much he can benchpress or how much he can destroy?

Benchpressing-wise, nowadays, Superman usually has either Planetary or Multi-planetary bench pressing strength. Nothing beyond being able to benchpress a solar system though.

If he sundips for quite a while, he can go beyond that though, but we don't know the full extent of it.
>>
>>84376740

Screw Superman, who's the guy who discovered the material that could resist that kind of pressure and invented the machine that could exert that kind of force?
>>
>>84379834

Turned him into a dick, though.
>>
>>84376747
>He once traveled to the beginning of the universe and survived the Big Bang.
I always hated that trope that ridiculous speed allows time travel to the past and not just to the future.
>>

>>
>>84376127

>>
>>84375812

True maximum? Beyond any possible comprehension. The strongest he's ever been written were really just attempts to make the strongest possible character in fiction.
>>
>>84380200
He and his organization of super-scientists actually owe all they do to Superman. He helped them develop and started the whole thing when he converted Lex Luthor to the side of good
>>
Is Superman stronger than Goku?
>>
>>84376144
That annoyed the hell out of me.

>part of the reason we're rebooting the DCU is because Superman is too strong, so we're gonna knock him down a notch so the writers can actually do something with him that isn't philosophy 101 or DBZ

Original Supes eventually got to the point where he could fly and survive nukes. There's a comic shortly after WW2 where he takes pictures of nuclear bomb tests for the military because he's the only one that can.

Silver Age craziness begins around when Otto Binder (who wrote for Captain Marvel) was hired by DC to write for Superman. He basically pumped up Superman to Captain Marvel levels.

Captain Marvel actually did crazy Superman feats before Superman. Pic very much related. "Small stars and planets would've been mowed down!"

Is there an anime character Deathbattle can have Captain Marvel fight? I'm tired of people hating on Superman for being stronger than their favorite character. Captain Marvel needs to siphon off some of that hatred.

Hard to say. Ages are titles given in retrospect after all. Personally I'd say Action Comics 242 to be the start of the definite silver age superman. You got Brainiac and the Bottle City and in a year Supergirl and Bizarro.

Nigger, I've been reading Superman for 15 years and his strength is ALWAYS plot dependent.
Only counting strength and leaving pain and damage resistance aside, supes' strength fluctuates between struggling with a building or a ship and literally benchpressing planets.

>>
My interpretation is that his strength is like the Flash's speed. It's potentially limitless, but most of the time it is just at relatively reasonable levels. The more they exert themselves, the more their power increases.
>>
>>84382644
Your problem is thinking that comic stories are entirely dependent of powerlevels.
>>
So, Superman gets his power from the sun. If you put him in proximity to a star smaller than our main sequence yellow one, he gets weaker. I heard that if he gets near a blue giant, he'll get even stronger than he is here on Earth, and if he goes skinny dipping in a star, he gets a temporary power boost.

So it seems to me that his strength is A) dependent on his location in the universe and B) potentially limitless.

So, a question: is there a point where its too much for his body to handle? How much solar radiation can he absorb before he starts to burn?
>>
>>84385261
about as much as you get from an apokalips fire pit
>>
>>84381605
He's a universe level threat and can move faster than time stop at his peak.
>>84384208
It's actually canon now that he lowered his power at that moment.
If he saw the shot coming toward him he probably would've tanked it
>>
>>84385261

And that also leads me to another question: Why would a nuclear weapon hurt Superman? Shouldn't it have the opposite effect? Give him a little boost? After all, a star is just a big ball of hydrogen undergoing nuclear fusion and spewing out radiation as a result.

He was able to easily defeat two other Supermen/Supermans during the arena story in Countdown
He could consciously alter his ability to absorb energy to use other forms of energy in addition to yellow sun radiation. He could use the energy in a variety of ways, such as being able to handle the heat blasts from the other Supermen as if they were solid objects, or powering himself up into a huge beast composed of said power.
He was the version of Superman that spent years reflecting on his powers and exploring them through meditation and Buddhist teachings.

>>
>>84385261
All-Star is the only thing that shows any kind of limit. Otherwise, he just keeps getting stronger. It tends to be gradual mostly, so he controls himself. A big enough boost can throw him off though. Apollo smacked nu52 Superman with concentrated solar power, and it hyper charged him so much he had to do laps of the moon for a while to try and bleed it off because he was having trouble adjusting.

And at the logical end point you have Superman One Million, where he appears to graduate to a full energy manipulator in how he uses his powers.

My favorite scene about his strength was when a lady superscientist was measuring how much he could lift and had to stop: explaining that the mass needed to continue challenging him would require the creation of a superdense black hole singularity that would destroy the solar system with it's very existence.
There's no better way to say in-universe that the writers just want him to be broken powerful.

>goku is not physically strong enough to hurt supes
Lots of what Goku seems to do involves energy blasts in Z. There's melee involved, but the big hits are energy related. His actual strength seems to be really very low. At least compared to a lot of comic characters. Superman, Thor, Carol, even Aquaman or Thing all seem stronger physically even if they don't shoot energy blasts.
>>
>>84375812
Superman has "Popularity Power." Theoretically he shouldn't be that strong, since it's being from Krypton that gives him his power and therefore he shouldn't be any stronger than any other Kryptonian on Earth.

But in practice his stature in the superhero world gives him almost God-like status, so at his strongest he can beat anyone, and he's usually said to be holding back his full power.
>>
>>84394714
>Theoretically he shouldn't be that strong, since it's being from Krypton that gives him his power and therefore he shouldn't be any stronger than any other Kryptonian on Earth.

Technically speaking he's not compared with most regular Kryptonians, is he? Supergirl he's stronger than, usually proportionate to their height, weight and build comparatively just scaled up. In nu52 Supergirl was also equal to or superior to Wonder Woman physically in a fight they had, but Diana was better trained. Power Girl I actually don't know about, but I'd assume she's stronger than Supergirl.

In the New Krypton arc most of the Kryptonians were more or less equal to Superman, but he had an edge in training and ability over them as a result of his lengthy experience with his powers.

He's also got the benefit of living on Earth, growing up and into his powers, learning to master them, and being exposed to the sun for much longer than most Kryptonian villains who just show up, suddenly get powers, and don't know how to use them right.

It's not like every Kryptonian who shows up on Earth magically goes from 10, 12, 20, 8 or whatever up to a flat 1000. It's more like what they already have gets a x100 multiplier.

Every time he uses his powers to lift a space shuttle or take a nuke hit or punch from Mongul, his reserves deplete. Writers employ the premise to explain the inconsistency in his power levels.

He survived the big bang anon.

When you bring in Gardner Fox era Superman all bets are off. You have to use one of his weakness to damage him. Otherwise you can't.

Let me give you an example from the first time the JLA fights the Royal Flush Gang. The Gang have the power of "Stellaration". Its like science-magic. Amos Fortune, their leader, found a way to harness the fortune controlling powers of stars. He channels the power into playing cards and use them to change people's fortunes based on the card.

Gardner Fox was very JoJo.

So they use Stellaration to basically cast spells. They blind Flash and reduce Wonder Woman's powers by a half.

But Stellartion can't work on Superman. Because NOTHING works on Superman.

Superman is just proof against fortune control.

They figure out that the only way to beat Superman is to use the Stellartion from a Red Star to power up an Ace card (Aces allow them to auto-win over an enemy).

Without red solar radiation the "magic" auto-win card wouldn't have worked.

That's how invulnerable silver age Superman is.

Also, Goku killed a universe? I'm sort of curious what other universes are like in DBZ. Do they have one where the Nameks get to do things? Or are they all floating in a void because Goku killed everything?

>Also, Goku killed a universe? I'm sort of curious what other universes are like in DBZ. Do they have one where the Nameks get to do things? Or are they all floating in a void because Goku killed everything?

Not that anon, but technically, it wasn't Goku by himself. Goku and Beerus punching with the similar strengths generated two impact waves that destroyed stuff around the universe, and supposedly a third wave would destroy everything. Goku learns how to cancel the impact in the third clash though. Afterwards, however, they start a beam clash and then create an explosion that's about to engulf the entire universe, even the Supreme Kai planet, which is close to the afterlife. However, Beerus absorbs the power of the explosion, which ends up just seen as harmless light around the universe.

Silver Age Superman could beat One Punch Man as well because One Punch Man is purely physical. 100% invulnerability to physical attacks, and...
>>
>>84396025
A few weeks ago in Goku proved to be faster than Superman in DBS.
>>
>>84396863
His invulnerability was really his big thing. Even more than his strength. There were things he couldn't punch through or overpower, like Brainiac's force field. But his invulnerability and stamina was YOU LOSE.

He could also abuse time travel. He did it a LOT and he could do it at will. Its something a lot of people forget when talking about if he can beat Goku or whoever.

There was one Gardner Fox JLA comic where TO Morrow uses super hypnosis (the only other thing that he's vulnerable to besides the big three weaknesses) to command the League to

1. Never leave their base

and

2. Spend 30 minutes sweating brainstorming the best way to kill each other and then do it

Superman solves the problem by traveling back in time (he's not technically leaving the room) and switching places with himself from a week ago who isn't hypnotized.

Like I said, Gardner Fox was very JoJo.

He beat several guys by going back in time back in the Silver Age. Going by Deathbattle rules he just travels back to Dragon Ball and blasts kid Goku.

>>84397382
Doesn't he need to charge up before activating the move in time stop stuff? What exactly was the time stop anyway?

Regardless, assume Goku ZA WARDOs and blasts Superman again and again and again. Eventually he's going to get tired. Superman doesn't' get tired. Even his robot clone got tired but he couldn't.
>>
>>84396012
Anon the keyword was universe destroying PUNCH, Goku's casual punchs can destroy an entire fucking universe if they arent countered by an equal force. We havent even seen Cyan Goku go all out because would probably destroy multiple universes.

Not enough gun. Not nearly enough gun.

http://comicvine.gamespot.com/superman/4005-1807/forums/pc-superman-even-can-survival-big-bang-1456568/

He not only survived the big bang he destroyed the pyramid of light powered by the big bang. Depending on how you interpret that he exerted more force than the big bang itself.

No weakness, no win against PC Superman.

>>84397895
>>84397882

That's my Superman!

The Bleed feat is actually more impressive than tanking the Big Bang. The Monitors said nothing could contain its power. Superman would only destroy himself. It's the raw potential of the multiverse.

And he did it anyway because he's Superman.

Again, no weakness abuse, no win.
>>
>>84397656
The time stop shit was essentially him breaking through some guys ability to freeze time for N amount of seconds (i forget the numbers). It'll honestly make more sense when given a proper translation but essentially he was fast enough to cancel out a time freeze. So, assuming there was no time freeze to cancel out, it would result in Goku being able to move fast enough that the rest of the world would literally be standing still for however many "seconds" it was that he could hold it for.

DESU it was more of a reactionary type thing so I'm not sure if it's a speed he would be able to employ offensively. At least I haven't kept up with Super enough to know.

That was horseshit when Vendetti used it in Flash, and it's horseshit in DBS.

a better question is how long is Superman's DICK?

that fucker's got to be average or less than average to jam it into those tights, unless he's got some super dick-cramming power
>>
>>84397993
Yh so fucking what Cyan Goku can destroy multiple universe if we apply some logic assuming his casual punchs can destroy a universe then Cyan Goku can in theory destroy about 56 universes at full power. The average universe is 130 billion years across now multiply this by 56 to see how strong Goku is and Whis is still even stronger than this.
>>
>>84399887
Since Saiyan Saga he could already benchpress the earth and his punchs almost destroyed the universe so yh hes way above Superman in power the current one, I dont know how strong Prime or Prime One Million is.

Speed-=Distance/Time

But for Goku the formula is no
Speed=Distance since he moves faster than time(wut) then every movement that Goku makes there is no time interval at all not even a planck time interval now obviously time does happen but figuratively, physically no time happens meaning Goku could do one billion times and not one spec of time would pass in the universe.

The thing with Goku that faggots don't understand is that ki is actually magic. When Goku punches he doesn't punch with force he punches with magic, the same as a monk in D&D. The time stop thing is the same way.

yeah its a good idea but its not really in line with superman. hes the basis for bull shit strength or plot strength character. The foundation can suffer only so much change.
>>
>>84381222
Nerfing him doesn't mean making him impotent. People don't get that lifting 10x the weight of the earth is still a ridiculously massive nerf to Superman's previous powerlevel.
>>
>>84383090
Alright, then do it.
>>
>>84385382
This is why I hate when comics and fans try to explain powers using science. Most comic book fans are squarely in the demographic that knows enough to be dangerous but not enough to be helpful, and they never bother doing research on their own since they think they know enough.

Two entirely different types of radiation first of all
>>
>>84385597
Superman Prime only went into the sun after being away from Earth for about 20,000 years after Lois died, he's not All-Star. ASS was an alternate universe, Prime was main continuity Post-Crisis Superman in the future.
>>
>>84375812
Exactly as strong as the plot demands.
>>
>>84401061
Saiyan Saga Goku can destroy the earth so he can also lift the Earth's weight since the physical strength and ki force is the same thing.
>>
>>84384134

Props to the kid who wanted to be Danny Phantom powers, though, can't blame him.
>>
>>84376740
Supes prior to New 52 lifted infinite mass and could endure black holes. Most comics incarnations have the same top end feats outside the reality warpers, with Silver Age being slightly ahead.

>>84379154
Goku isn't close to normal planet level and Super isn't canon.

>>84382876
>his punches were threatening to destroy the entire universe
Which had nothing to do with actual power in DBZ's tiny ass universe that never came close to being destroyed in a non-canon event.

Cell striking the Earth with all his might only made a smaller crater, ki blasts=/=punching power. Also, no one in Saiyan Saga shows the power to destroy a planet, all we have to go by is Vegeta's bluff and Pickle Man blowing up their tiny moon.

They can control all the kinetic energy released from their attacks thats how they can shoot ki blast withhout blowing up the solar system when it hits something.

Piccolo is piss weak to Saiyan Saga Vegeta and he destroyed the moon with a single casual ki blast not even a focused one.
