So Carol is getting yet another relaunch

And Doom is confirmed Infamous Iron Man written by Bendis.

That's what? Four relaunches in 4-5 years?

at least they've mostly moved away from KSD's bland take on Carol although I think a lot of current Carol fans liked her because of KSD

The KSD thing is weird, even just looking at the fandom. She basically blank slated the character she wanted to write - that was the end of Carol as-was. I don't care about the costume shit, but you burned a lot on that pyre with the costume.

>>84361165

yeah but that's the climate at marvel now. short runs and multiple volumes
>>
>>84360913
Carol is a really good example of how, if Marvel wants to actually keep your book alive, you aren't allowed to actually tell solid stories.

KSD writes way better than her Captain Marvel output on average. Maybe it was a fluke, but I figure Marvel Editorial wants weird shit from Carol now, and probably even change their mind all the time. Not to mention with the constant events and everything, there's no time, no opportunity, for Carol to have the kind of longterm development she'd need, that she would've and did get in the past, when books were more isolated and longer running.

Carol can't actually become the character Marvel wants in this environment, not when she's getting jerked around constantly. At this rate, eventually Kamala will get the same treatment. She only got to do her own thing at first because they didn't expect her to do well or blow up across the board.

If they thought Nighthawk would be the next big thing, they certainly wouldn't be letting David Walker go balls to the wall with his stuff there.

I have to say I'm morbidly curious to see what a Bendis-penned Crossing would look like.
>>
>>84361238
Like, if it was me, I'd focus Carol on Earth, give her a solid supporting cast - Jessica Drew out from the gate, and for god's sake they should've been dating forever ago, they had way more chemistry than they ever gave her and Rhodey - you know, the kind of stuff you'd get from 80s material. Denser issues, micro plots within larger plots, largely consistent supporting cast.

But you can't sell that anymore. Not in the relaunch and event driven world.

"Seasons" is an inaccurate way to describe so many of these books, because most shows, even with season cliffhangers, don't change as much as they do from season to season. Nor do they constantly have "world shattering" crossovers with every other show.

Black Lives Matter ends in violence whether or not anyone in Black Lives Matter wants it to end in violence or not. They know that.

Dudes could walk out handcuffed and gagged with a protest sign attached to their body and they'd get their heads beat in or gassed for being unruly.

The history of black people enacting vigilante justice in america is thin, and has awfully specific targets when it does come up, much of it VERY deep in the past. Generally very focused.

The history of white people enacting vigilante justice, and LITERALLY lynching people, is...

Well.

Not to get political for too long in the thread, but you're worrying about the wrong people, as evidenced by every part of American history.

Did you know MLK was derided as a shitstirrer who brought violence everywhere and needed to be nicer or some shit if he wanted change? No kidding.

One 50 year old dude with multiple copies of his last book sending in letters every month asking when the new Solo book is.

Or maybe those "thousands" or whatever of letters Slott got demanding a Silk solo, which of course, turned out better than her original material.

My best bet is Marvel thinks Deadpool's popularity will leech onto him, and I don't know how fucking dense they have to be to realize it doesn't work that way. Miles' sales consistently go down despite his connection to Peter. Kaine's sales weren't much to brag about either. They've done this a million times and somehow don't learn anything from it.

But hey, then again, Captain Marvel relaunch, new team, the non-stop Inhumans push that doesn't translate to sales... of course they don't learn anything.

They have to understand that their current major audience, the one they've been selling to for years, even before Ultimate was a thing, almost never buy new books, right?
>>

>If they actually did that they'd call DC boring and unimaginative and probably racist for reproducing period ideology.
Yeah, this is why I'm confused with the "it's not like original!" complaints. Like, bitch, you are aware that original had a lot of problematic stuff in it right? The fact that comic gave Wilma a personality outside of "nagging housewife" was enough to make me like the book. Swole Fred was a nice bonus, though.
>>
>>84361838
There are women who like cheesecake too. The idea of censoring everything wholesale has always been dumb as fuck. It's got to be appropriate, got to fit the context, it shouldn't be everything but there's nothing inherently wrong with sexy art.

No, that's an incredibly stupid theory, especially with how Marvel actually reacts to any criticism of their behavior or publishing.

Everything about them points to "they don't understand sexualization of men at all", see: Greg Land gets assigned fucking Black Bolt cover as "beefcake".

The entire LGBT+ community is also clearly willing to throw money at books with LGBT leads if only they existed, Midnighter couldn't have gotten less than tens of thousands of sales otherwise!

Well, I'd say the fairer comparison is "if they can give Solo a book, they can fucking give anybody a book, they've got no excuse". If someone at Marvel thinks Solo can actually last as an ongoing in 2016-2017, they are the dumbest motherfuckers alive.

Deathstroke has a fanbase and sells for awhile, even if he keeps getting cancelled.

Solo has...

Erik Larsen?
>>
>>84362007

>>
>>84362007
A Solo book means a Miss America book should be on the table, I agree wholeheartedly. But this dude is more about "It's total bias that Middy is gone and Deathstroke relaunches"

I would love to know for each book whether it was commissioned by Editorial or pitched.
>>
>>84361999
The comics distribution and ordering model is not at all designed to be easy or even good for the lifeblood of comics themselves. Especially in the age of digital and instant streaming.

Who the fuck wants to jump through all these hoops for their purchase to "count" as a sale? I sure fucking don't, and I've been buying forever. I could hardly get upset at new buyers taking a pass on single issues and the clusterfuck of ordering them.

>>84362062
They focus on the wrong things when trying to get angry at the (definitely, totally) broken system.

Deathstroke is known by both casuals and by the hardcore audience, and the hardcore audience is the people that make up those weekly walk ins. If they bought Deathstroke before, they will again.

The trick Marvel and DC has to figure out is how to sell new characters to new readers, but they're chained to a model that even a lot of old readers don't fucking like, not to mention that the events and relaunches are a huge turn off.

Middy could use a relaunch, but only if DC actually fucking knew what they were doing in both marketing and selling him. He's going to flop in the direct market, because your primary audience there is still the core audience.

Marvel is still baffled at how Kamala got popular, but that initial surge of controversy + being an actually solid, and importantly, SELF-CONTAINED book was huge for new readers.

Though Marvel seems steadfast at being totally oblivious to Kamala's incredible digital sales and that being a good indicator of where the "new" audience is.

>>84362115
IDK, Solo's on the Mercs for Money

do we have a writer yet?

>>84362124
It was half that but there were some people taking it REALLY personally and taking it to Seeley as such
>>
>>84361998
>I hope Priest's Deathstroke does okay numbers too

It will. Since Deathstroke relaunch in 2014, it's had remarkably solid sales and outsold Batgirl for a long time. While going bi-monthly might make things weird, if it's somehow managed to be a good seller for DC without too many high profile things attached to it (Deathstroke isn't *that* big a deal; writer/artist weren't too big after Tony S Daniel left and it still had solid sales; almost never heard it be called a "great" series or anything), then I think being one of the bi-monthlies and being a Priest book will keep it alive for a long time.
>>

Priest said it in his post about it the other day

it sounds like part of the way they're going to handle double shipping (although I think Deathstroke and both Titans books are single shipping?) is mini crossovers like Orlando is doing with the Batbooks to give the regulars a break so I'm not surprised Mr. Stroke would eventually run into the Titans

Come on, man. Everyone knows Solo's going to last 6 issues, and then die quietly, like half of ANAD's new books.

The only thing that maybe, MAYBE could make it last a smidge longer than that is if the Solo solo coincides with Solo being added to the Agents of SHIELD cast as basically a Fox-free Deadpool.

"current" Carol fans don't like Carol, they like the idea of Carol as presented by KSD and kind of bought by Marvel of her being their Premier Female Super Hero™ (their Wondy for lack of a better term) and they've failed terribly, specially because Marvel's most female focused series have always been the X-teams.

Seriously, I still can't believe they are actually going to try to push a Carol Denvers Captain Marvel movie, she literally has no big notable villains or particularly notable runs that don't heavly steal from Mar-vell.
