Can we talk for a moment about the Punisher?

What is it about this character that its so unique? To me he stands out as its own brand of character like The Maxx, Judge Dredd, Savage Dragon or even Miracle Man.

So what do you love about the Punisher, /co/?
>>
He was just as bad as the punks he offed. Yeah, they committed crimes, but Frank himself would resort to kidnapping, extortion, coercion, and straight up murder just to accomplish his goals. To catch a criminal, you must become one.
>>
>>84343103
(1) - I guess we're gunna.
(2) - The painfully obvious nature of his concept.
(3) - I love the overkill, it's sometimes witty in it's ridiculousness.
>>
>>84343103
The 24/7 aspect of the character is really the only thing that sets him apart. He has NO life other than being The Punisher. That's a sharp contrast to every other vigilante who has to hide their secret and lives in constant fear of being found out.
>>
"I put em down THEY STAY DOWN!"
>>
Garth Ennis writing him desu. Other Punisher writers are ok at best, but Ennis has his own unique brand of writing that really lends itself to the character and vice versa.
>>
>>84343103
2nd amendment thought-sauce and its ruined by anything anti-gunners would write about him.
>>
>>84343241
>>84343165

I'm not saying that he is a great guy, a role model or that it has a really original concept.

For me, what I love about him is his fight, the way he lives life, like there is no end to what he is doing other than being killed or dying while trying to murder thugs somehow.

Like I give more of a fuck about Punisher killing people and what that implies than when Deathstroke, Wolverine or anyone else does it, specially when he is working outside the marvel universe just fighting regular people
>>
The Punisher is basically what if Golden Age Batman stayed Golden Age Batman.
>>
>>84343260
Punisher Max is the apex of the character desu
>>
>>84343337
Is there Deathstroke x Punisher rule 34?
>>
A deadpool marvel webcomic had Punisher try to waterboard Rocket Raccoon and get knocked out by Squirrel Girl using a chair.

I really miss the Max series.

>>
>>84344025
I really wish there were more Punisher and Batman crossovers. At least with Punisher interacting with some of Batman's villains.
>>
>>84343103
I think his tragic backstory is what makes him desu. It really forces you to question the whole concept of justice in the US law system and also kinda teaches a lesson about the way we treat war vets.
>>
>>84344066
>interacting
There's a very limited range of interaction there. Still, an alternate reality where Frank purges Gotham would be nice.
>>
Frank is my husbando
>>
>>84344100
He would probably end up making even worse villains. Jigsaw, Bushwacker, and Barracuda are results from just random mobsters becoming horribly vengeful and deranged imagine what would happen if he did it to some maniacs from Arkham?
>>
>>84343103
He's the only one that does the right thing.
>>
>>84343103

Do you believe that Frank has what it takes, /co/?
>>
>>84344125
Does he even have a sexdrive anymore?
>>
>>84343103

>He's old

>He has no superpowers, just good spec ops training

>He gets hurt like a normal human

>He still can go toe to toe and surpass superheroes and mutants

>He never kills an innocent or lets innocents die

>He does it 24/7 for 30 THIRTY years

>He kills the bad guys

>He touches that string inside ourselves that wants not just justice but the ultimate revenge.

Punisher is polarizing but I think he's one of the best heroes of all time. I'd love a Punisher irl.
>>
>>84343103

He's the purest representation of someone saying "No" and fighting back when he's fed up.

This is something not many characters do and hits very close to every one of us.

Also his comics are a tad more mature than the rest of capeshit
>>
>>84344256
Dude, his van is literally littered with porn mags. That's not to mention the numerous women he's fucked/been fucked by since his family died.
>>
>>84344318
Maybe that's all just to convince himself he has boners other than murderboners.
>>
>>84344229
Whatever do you mean? He's clearly doing "it".
>>
>>84343103
I love how he's inconsistent, pretentious, and annoying as fuck.

>hur, nig nogs can't into sights
>excuse me as I dual wield assault rifles from the hip

>no excuses, death to all criminals and murderers
>Thunderbolt Ross is okay though, he's military and they can't do wrong
>>
>>84343103
He's the One-punch Man of edgy.
>>
>>84344369
What does that even mean?
>>
>>84343103
He doesn't think of himself as a hero.

When a character goes to absolutely horrible lengths to fight evil and still smugly insists they're a hero, that person is insufferable, but Frank's acceptance that he and what is does is still incredibly awful while being necessary is refreshing.

Really, the presumption of declaring oneself a hero for doing anything is already an arrogant move, it just becomes worse when you're proud of yourself for murder and torture.
>>
>>84344066
You mean murder the shit out of everyone? Yes please.
>>
>>84344318
>>84344336
He does ot because of the primal need, thats it. We had a huge thread on this very subject a few months ago. And when he has sex, he pretends he is making love to his wife.

Punisher identified a trend in Superhero comics and refined it until there wasn't much else left. Both characters are commentaries on their contemporaries.
Both characters are based on a fairly simple, straightforward premise that nevertheless remains engaging.
Both characters are ridiculously powerful/skilled and never lose.
Obviously a lot of things that don't match up, but Punisher has always felt a bit like a deconstruction to me, at least with some writers.

Sure, teleportation, time-travel, a universe filled with super heroes, hundreds of alien spieces, and literally personifications of death, eternity, and others, and your issue is Punisher using AP buckshot?
>>
Because he takes on villains, both powered and non-powered, with the most elegant of solutions: BULLETS. It's downright baffling how many problems could be solved if more people thought like the Punisher.

Fuck you Batman, Hawkeye, Daredevil, and all those other idiots who insist on using gimmick weapons. A gun is an objectively superior option. And your enemies are either mass murders, super powered maniacs, or both. Shoot them.
>>
There's one thing that every punisher story needs aside from archie vs punisher.. One is motherfuckers so horrible that even "OMG LETHAL FORCE" comic book motherfuckers can see a point to murdering them.

.
>>
>>84346251
Long cold dark, mother Russia, and in the beginning for me.

I wish Ennis kept Micro around a little longer. He was such a cool character.
>>
>>84346261
That was a great crossover. Denny Oneil wrote it I think.
>>
the big thing i like about the punisher is of all the normals doing vigilante things, he's the one with the fewest things going for him. iron man and batman are both billionaires running around with suits that cost more than city blocks, whereas the punisher is literally looting his opposition.
>>
>>84344409
Frank Castle died in the park. The punisher is just him filling time until his body catches up with his soul.
>>
>>84346298
AP means a dense, pointy core inside of a pointy bullet, for piercing things.
Buckshot is loose balls of soft lead.

Worse, there are already AP shotshells in the form of slugs, flechettes and tiny rocket grenades.

He's using words wrong and it's like nails on a chalkboard coming from a character who is supposed to be a firearms expert.
>>
>>84346978
Yeah, but the author isn't. So stop being autistic. If I as a biology phd student can refrain from sperging out over every "scientific" explanation for superpowers, surely you can.

not to derail the thread and turn this into /k/, but buckshot refers to the size of the pellet. For them to be AP, they can just as easily be depleted uranium coated or some such shit.

a slug would be more effective anyway though. But hey, frank knows best.
>>
>>84344271
They are called vigilantes and they exist in real life you will find the most effective ones in third world countries where tracking killers down is harder

You can google them, publishers do exist in real life
>>
>>84347142
That looks great. Anybody has the full thing?
>>
>>84344360
It's like different people wrote him. There was a time when The Punisher would be shown investigating and concocting schemes to go undetcover, now that time is used to develop the villains before he shoots everything in the vicinity to pieces. When it comes to action, I think Dixon and the artist's he worked woth balanced the technicalities of gun use and the importance of visual action the best. I refuse to apologize for not being a fan of the oh so serious operator gum use shit.

His uniqueness stems from absolute simplicity. The Punisher is the epitome of one dimensional characters, and that's not necessarily a bad thing in his case. His nature allows for versatility and consistency. Notice how Ennis stripped the character to bare essentials for his run to get the most out of him.
>>
>>84344360
Putting aside the legit differences in style and tone, it's a result of massive nogunz authors writing him.

He has a mission that completely consumes him even more than Batman's does. Punisher is interesting because he's pretty much pure human will hellbent on accomplishing a specific task. Makes for fun reading.

Also, Punisher appeals to the Punisher deep down inside all of us. It makes him interesting as kind of a dark reflection of your own desires to punish. If Punisher existed in real life I would never commend his methods, but in a fictional setting I enjoy seeing him brutalize rapists, murderers, slavers etc. and I have to stop and wonder why that is.

Punisher is a great character, it's a shame so many people make the mistake of assuming otherwise because he's not subtle.

Yeah. Honestly, Punisher is a really cool guy. He never kills innocents, cops, or other heroes- heck, 99% of the time he assists people any way he can to "fight the good fight"! Don't know why everyone gets so pissy at Frank for wasting drug runners and pedophiles.
>>
>>84349064
I remember one story in which he became Bros with an enforcer. It can be annoying how more and more uncompromising his personality has become over time.
>>
>>84349172
I liked the more detective-y FBI punisher from the 80's where he would stake out places and actually care what he would (get to know the victims, get help from cops/heroes, stalk the perps, etc.) do rather than walking into a sweat shop in Chinatown and wasting 50 dudes. The comics have no character development besides Frank's and it's all one big action scene which I mean is very cool but I want... more. Also, having Frank be so black-and-white is also pretty boring.
