>character misunderstands protagonist and runs away
>"WAIT, WAIT! I CAN EXPLAIN!"

This is a common one posted, but the fact that 99% of animated movies rely on this plot device is ridiculous.

I watched Zootopia for the first time last night and just rolled my eyes when it happened. It's such a boring way to inject drama into a movie.
>>
>>84340692

I remember the Nostalgia Critic mentioning it in a video. The "protagonist has a reasonable explanation but everyone else refuses to listen to him for unreasonable/uncharacteristic reasons" trope.

Or a situation that will take like 30 seconds of explanation in real life to calm down, but they don't say something obvious.

I'm really just thinking non-specific moments of Arrow right now, it all just bleeds together. >>84340901 That sums it up too.
>>
>>84340640

Yeah it's also annoying because in real life people are always shifting around and looking around and seeing who is around them, just like a natural biology instinct. So that situation doesn't happen unless the person is like in the room next door and hears them.
>>
>confident character leads timid character to a "shortcut"

I think the quintessential example of this kind of thing is the relevant situation in A Bug's Life. I can't watch it anymore without rolling my eyes.

>>84341159

I'd be willing to suspend disbelief of it were funny, but it NEVER is. It *might* have been funny the first time or two, but by the 1000th time the joke was told even the dumbest of kids/people can't help but cringe.

It's always the same type of character doing it to; the arrogant guy, the loser/ comedic punching bag, or the lovesick one. Rarely does this plot happen to a female character.

The only time I've seen it where it wasn't horrible was in Bojack Horseman, season 2, where Princess Caroline acts like a big shot at a funeral.

Yes. It goes from crappy horror to really, really, really bad action thriller.

Purge 3 has some """"Excellent"""" character motivations, but the best by far is this gem:

>girl tries to shoplift from store
>gets caught
>decides to come back to store on Purge Night to kill store owner over a candy bar
>on a night where all crime is legal
>she tries to vengeance for a candy bar

It's stupider than the Amazing Spider Man 1, where Uncle Ben/ Sheen gets killed over a bottle of milk.

You're retarded if you thought it was actually over the candy bar. Her talking about the candy bar was a joke. She was a spoiled-ass girl and got miffed over the fact that she got caught shop lifting.

Scenes I hate... Okay, this might fall under fight choreography, but I fucking loathe it when a woman or man, usually the former, about the half the size of their opponent and slim as a twig fights as if they are the same size and strength and they have no sort of strength related superpowers.

It's just irks me for two main reasons. One it's because it defies the very law of physics and if it is a comic in which the hero is 'realistic' or a normal human, than it is totally immersion breaking. Two I am a musclefag, and I want more waifus with a toned body or visible muscles.

That being said, if a smaller character uses martial arts or uses a specific style of fighting that is made for fighting opponents bigger than them, I fucking love it.

Actually, I think Zootopia wasn't really an example of this. It's not just the Mariachi costume that pegs him as Hispanic, but the one that shows how he looked like in the past.

You've got to admit this is one Mexican looking motherfucker.

Ugh, Spanglish is disgusting to listen to. Thats why its banned in my house.

You really need to go looking for SJW's to find them. They are a much smaller community than people think. 4chan just likes to go digging for things to be mad about.

fuck I JUST watched that episode of KOTH about an hour ago... it's coincidences like that that make you lose touch with reality and think you're crazy....
>>
>>84343751
Dark skin and a Hispanic last name don't make you Mexican. He could be any dark-skinned ethnicity.

His mask looks almost exactly like an ungulate skull, and only looks anything like a barn owl if you reach, to the point that coincidence is far more likely than an intentional reference.

They're rampant with Marvel.

>Mexico is the only Hispanic country in the world

It's all moot anyway, since Reaper was explicitly designed becore he was given any background at all.

Eh he looks like a generic soldier guy to me. If it wasn't for the cell shading he could be from any number of COD derivatives.

As the others have said. That really wasn't a misunderstanding. She pretty much said blacks can't help being violent.

The classic obnoxious misunderstanding is when one character eavesdrops or walks in partially through a conversation. They don't bother trying to understand the context and just run off.
>>
>>84343869
He's from America, specifically Los Angeles. You know what there's a lot of Los Angeles.

>>84343751
You could claim that guy as Italian, Arabic, black or Indian and people would be just as likely to believe you.

Ill have to agree we with you on the Nazi thing. I personally think that the Nazis had a great sense of fashion when it came to their designs. Has there ever been a show/comic/movie that dressed its protagonist as if they where part of sone evil empire/dictatorship kind of thing?

That's what happens when you contract Hugo Boss to make your uniforms.

Sorry if i wasn't clear i was referring to tumblr as the above posts in the chain were. As for marvel while i agree i feel like it's coming from a desperation to stay relevant more than the stance of the company but feel free to disagree.

I'm in mexico and mexican-american. a lot of shit's a symbol of death. goat skull just as much a symbol of death as an owl one. apple could be a symbol of death. marijuana could be. the right shade of flower. a butterfly. my ear itches the wrong way it's a symbol of impending death

Can't fucking stand that phrase and it is used in absolutely everything these days like its some kind of natural expression of confusion.

That isn't, in any respect, the trope you mentioned. That was not a misunderstanding. That was not an avoidable conflict with a simple resolution. That scene was revealing that Judy had prejudices which were incredibly insulting to her best friend Nick. This is evidenced by Nick's followup to her speech at the podium where he asks if she's scared of him, and he makes a really half-assed attempt at looking scary, after which Judy reaches for her fox spray.

No misunderstandings here. Just a harsh reality the two characters had to go through together.

>Character infiltrates enemy base as a mole or in a disguise
>Things go well (seemingly) for most of it
>The enemy ends up finding out or knew all along and kidnaps them

This shit needs to stop. Has this plan EVER worked? All it does is give cheap tension that always leads to a big ass rescue mission that usually ends with the character smuggling what they needed out during the scuffle anyways.
