>For this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego, comiXology is looking to spark interest with a full slate of comics-friendly programming and a surprise callback to the 1990s comics trading card craze.
>CBR has the exclusive first look at comiXology's programming for SDCC, which features How To talks on making comics, starting publishers and more as well as desert island picks from top creators and talkback sessions on their popular digital apps.
>The digital powerhouse will also be releasing a set of creator-centric "Comic Book All-Stars" trading cards featuring modern talent from Matt Fraction and G. Willow Wilson to Mike Mignola and Los Bros Hernandez. The set of cards will be available at the comiXology booth and their ten panels over the SDCC weekend.
>"We want to make everyone on the planet a comics fan," comiXology CEO David Steinberger said in a statement. "And we like to have fun while doing it. These cards are a fun throwback, and hopefully collectors will discover their next favorite creator while collecting the whole set."
>Though borrowing the style of late '80s/early '90s Topps trading cards, the cards are in many ways a callback to Eclipse's somewhat infamous 1992 comic creator set which featured everyone from Jack Kirby to a shirtless Todd McFarlane. Those have become internet favorites in the age of Tumblr and inspired a similar promotion from the CBLDF in 2011.

However, memes like this perpetuate the idea that trading cards are out of fashion. Youngsters, the biggest consumers of trading cards, are easily impressionable. They will read posts like yours and stop buying. Next time they're at toys r us with their parents they'll ask for a beyblade or a bionicle instead.
