Cartoons that were way better then they had any business being.

It is quite surprising that a male version of Polly Pocket turned out to be such an epic adventure show.
>>84325016
So what's this show like then?
>>84325219
Would've been much better if the show wasn't about Batman constantly hogging the spotlight. Hell, it's his fault the show had all that "hurr Batman shouldn't be goofy" shit.
The Mighty Max video game sucked though

The episode where they gather all the warriors and they sacrifice themselves was way heavy for a children's show

Turbo FAST. It was done by the same crew that did Motor City, so I guess it makes sense, but man for such a terrible boring movie they actually made a pretty funny cartoon. Except for any Skid Mark episode. Comedy relief sidekicks should never ever get their own episodes.
>>84325016
Just how mighty WAS Max, anyway?
>>84325016
Confession time: I always thought it was silly that one of his sidekick friends was a birdperson. Now, I haven't watched this show since I was a little kid and I'm sure they probably had a perfectly reasonable explanation for him being a bird, but even as a kid I found it a little distracting and thought it made the show look a tad more ridiculous and babyish. Though I'm probably forgetting a lot of other outlandish shit it had that never bothered me for some reason.

Awesome finale. Alpha finally, FINALLY dying was epic.
...But then at the last second they neutralize all of Earth and return everything to the status quo. Why bother doing that if it was the series finale? Who cares if it goes back to the status quo at that point?
>>84326394
Alpha was never even mentioned in any movie...

This.
Take away the lego style and more people would watch it. But the lego style is easy to get used to.
Talespin. They just took characters from the jungle book, shoved them into the setting, and called it a show. And it was pretty damned good. It should have been just a bad spinoff, but managed to be fantastic in it's own right.
Earthworm Jim. Yet another video-game licensed show following in the footsteps of all the SMB and Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons. Should have been as bad as the others, but instead was probably the best video-game licensed show of the bunch. Having a pretty good voice cast didn't hurt.

Young man has to stop Undying Skeleton Wizard King Tim Curry from enslaving the world, with the help of a sagacious birdman and an immortal viking warrior.
Side quests involving horrifying side villains are also common.
For a show designed to sell Polly Pocket for boys, it was impressively hard core.
>>84328339
It amazed me that people actually died in it. It blew my mind as a kid that some of those monster of the week episodes kicked off with the monster actually killing someone before the cast had to deal with it.

Oh come on, Callie! We know you secretly like it.
>>84332891
I really wonder how SWAT Kats Revolution is going to be when they finally go and start making it.
From what I've heard it's going to be like this:
>Megakat City is on the brink of being torn apart due to T-Bone and Razor being absent for years.
>The reason they are absent was because their tech is old and they cannot catch up to the villains.
>Callie is holding the city (barely) and Manx is even more corrupted than ever (probably he cut the Enforcers budget and thus no new junk appears for Chance and Jake to salvage).
>Dark Kat managed to create a villain alliance over the years and is slowly putting his plans into fruition.
>SWAT Kats are going to meet a hacker girl that will help them get back into the vigilante business and save Megakat City by supplying them with tech to upgrade their gear and the Turbo Kat.
>The duo will also go to Viper's creepy murder swamp to find an old acquaintance who stood up to them when Feral wanted to bash them. Said acquaintance mutated due to being too long in the swamp and at first he's a mindless mutant. He gets better but he's still mutated and becomes their ally.
>Show will go deeper into the setting and characters (there will be a Dark Kat origin story).
>There will be new villains appearing (the kids of the Metallikats...even though how the two would have kids is something of a mystery).
>The radical levels and crazy action remains.

Any sort of licencing deal related to Godzilla is a big barrel of money-sucking complicatedness.
Which is why this cartoon, the Hanna-Barbera show, the 2014 American movie, the proposed 1994 American movie and the canceled sequel to the 1998 American movie all had to make up their own monsters.
I'd kill to see a movie get made where Max, starting from the beginning again, uses his knowledge of past events to make better decisions. He convinces villains who could have had a second chance to rethink their lives, prevents some of the many deaths from happening, all the while Virgil has to warn him that his knowledge of the previous timeline can have dire consequences, however Max is counting on this as a means of finally vanquishing Skullmaster once and for all.

Not hogging spotlight, but it was basically unstoppable Bat-God being better than every other hero at doing what that hero does best.
Phantom 2040. It was leagues ahead of any other Phantom adaptation and had a ton of complex characterizations, even for the shows Kitt Walker. Ron Pearlman and Mark Hamill voiced villains. Only problem was that the plot and he narrative were far better han the animation itself could keep up with. Also the show was animated by that Tony...tommy cheung whatever guy on a SATam budget, and his in house style sucks even after itwas adapted for use with 2040

Toho was, for completely understandable reasons, loathe to loan out the IP for their monster line up.
But honest to god Adelaide productions knew what they were doing with this shit. One of the running gags with the artsits was they'd take a name for a Toho monster when it came time to design a new monster for the show and then just draw something utterly unrelated to the source material.
Also this show was bought like a solid year before the movie hit theaters. There was an entire smoke screen called "TEAM H.E.A.T" where they pretetnded they were making something else, had a dog made of fire as a team pet and everything.
so the movie drops, is pretty goddamn bad for a godzilla movie (more a "it came from 20'000 leagues than godzilla) and they're left working with scraps from the movie.
and they do a pretty goddamn good job all things considered, even go so far as to make an episode that's an homage to the thing.

>>84337918

The series was superior to the movie; Godzilla was a huge, menacing, fie-breathing dragon-creature who kicked ass and took names, not a limp-wristed no-atomic-fire-havin' lizard running away and playing hide-n-seek in a city

Animated was like a modern-day reincarnation of Beast Wars. The two of them came into the world utterly despised by the established fanbase, and they both had a lot of things going against them at first. I can't recall much hate for Beastwars beyond the retarded "truk not monky!" thing, whereas Animated I know had a lot of flak for the art style as many (myself to some degree) couldn't quite get into the "armored people" look many of the bots had. Sure, they had had Transformers in the past who looked like people in robot suits, but at least they still overall looked like robots.
Still, Animated did have a better premise compared to Beast Wars initial set up which was just "it's prehistoric earth instead of a semi-future earth". Though I think they overdid it with the Decepticons always being huge compared to autobots.

>Baxter getting fucked more and more as the show went on
Fuck that show got crazy

Clover?

Talespin was supposed to be about Launchpad, but because Jungle Book saw success due to a rerelease in theatres, they used those characters instead.

Who voiced the red guy (booster?)? His voice was familiar I remember
Anybody else remember this?
>>84344095
I know of it, but I never watched it.

I remember the great symphonic metal theme.

This show was amazing. Favorite episode was The Supermen in Black. Worst episode is the one where Santa Claus is real and lives in New York.

It's one of those exceedingly easy, fast and cheap to produce cartoons. The fact it stuck around for so long, like Johnny Test and probably Teen Titans Go! is probably down to how cost effective it is.
>>84335088
This show had many other problems, though. For example, the writers had no idea where they were going with the plot and characters. It was originally supposed to be about Ben forming and training a team, but they scrapped it a few episodes in. They couldn't decide if Ben was this goof ball or a super serious highly trained elite martial artists army guy.

Watching the first season right now because of this thread. Does the villain's son ever stop being a little faggot? 'Cause right now he's being a little faggot.

Pretty sure this was the biggest factor in me liking gay furry porn

Neo-batman fighting psychics and furries and shit in cyberpunk future. It was awesome. And it tied into Static shock who was also pretty harass.
>>84343810
This was the first tmnt I saw so I never understood why people thought it was lame. That one was amazing.
>>84344131
Damn straight that reminded me of Sonata Arctica and Angra
Also, I am sorely surprised nobody has mentioned (pic) adventures yet. On paper it sounds dumb but it just worked so Damn well.

What caused 4kids ultimant downfall anyway
>>84344131
Fuck yeah. Best part of the show.
>>84344296
I thought gambling on too many licenses caused 4kids downfall?
>>84344286
it´s tied with the nickelodeon one as the best tmnt cartoons, only 80sfags hate it, those other two series are actually inspired by the comics rather than being kiddy friendly a la 80s
>>84344363
Don't be that fag. The 80's show was good for it's own reasons.
>>84325016
This shit rarely gets any attention, even though it was a pretty solid effort all around. There aren't many good racing cartoons out there, period.
>>84344244
Yea
>>84344286
>on paper it sounds dumb
the paper was literally just "jackie chan is a cartoon, make it work". And that's the best paper I've read all week. Great show that was exactly as great as it should have been.

I'm struck by a terrible urge to rewatch some of this old stuff. Shame there isn't high quality available. Mighty Max I barely remeber anything about aside from watching it every morning before school.
Rhupert I remember being surprisingly good.
>>84344020
...That explains so much. Though a competent launchpad is very hard to picture. I like what we got more but I can definitely see the influence now.
>>84344414
Ah see I envisage the paper as "this Chinese celebrity just got super big in the west, give him a cartoon".
Also, speaking of random celebrities getting a cartoon that was awesome, this. Spawned a few earworms.

Also I will never not call good cold cuts "extreme (c)ham"

>Ah see I envisage the paper as "this Chinese celebrity just got super big in the west, give him a cartoon".
At least people knew who Jackie Chan was. Explain this shit:

To be fair, Launchpad was bit more competent in Darkwing, not crashing nearly as much as he did in Ducktales. Of course, it could have been a fun way to grow his character, he crashes sometimes, but treats it more like an occasional mishap than the near-fetish he had for smashing every craft to bits.

Or Arcee.

Transformers don't have gender, technically speaking. Ergo, they cannot be semen demons.
Miko however, probably was a huge slut who offered Jack numerous favors when the team was out stomping Decepticons.
