The point of his episode is that Molly thought that he killed her mom during a race on Earth. At the end of the episode Spirit shows Molly his point of view during that race and it's revealed that there was a gas leak in Molly's mom's starship. Alternatively you just do the two blind and on instruments.
For the circuit it doesn't matter too much because those were usually ovals or triangles, so looking out the side to see the markers was enough.
