Every piece of concept art for Masters of the Universe look amazing. It's just to bad the film couldn't match up. Then again what do you expect from Cannon. Frank was awesome as Skeletor though.

I like Father from Kids Next Door a shit ton.
Tex Hex had a fair amount of depth to him; he knew he hadn't always been the bad guy, and even he sometimes realised that there was no going back, no happy ending, no redemption. Best he could do was not do as much evil as he'd intended to do that day.
Also, you have to have at least a grudging respect for a bad guy whose plan for one episode was "start a race war between the native population and poor, hungry settlers".

I always liked how Man-At-Arms' voice cracked when he said "You dare threaten her life?" Like he was absolutely shitting himself in Skeletor's precense.

Langella's Skeletor is fantastic there is no doubt. But his motivations are plain superficial. He is just another power hungry tyrant. But the background that the modern stories gave to him, he turned him to 3 dimensional character, whose claims are actually legitimate until a certain degree.

Tex Hex was so great he created Bravestarr. He was originally made for Filmation's Ghostbusters, and Lou Scheimer, one of the studio founders and an executive producer, liked him so much that he got Arthur Nadel, Filmation's Vice President for Creative Affairs, and art director John Grusd to develop a series entirely around him. That led to them having the idea of a Sci-Fi Western, which led to Bravestarr.

Yeah, but the film tried to give Mal depth and a sympathetic backstory and it ruined what was appealing about her in the first place (that she was an unapologetic evil Fae bitch).
Personally I actually quite like the modern Keldor backstory, but mostly if modern, present-day Skeletor is still a cackling evil lunatic. Yes, he could have been a good man once, but now he's a skull faced muscle-demon who might try and blow up the sun.
