anyone have that pic of Professor Mallard's original design? He's standing next to a duck almost identical to the guy in today's strip.

Look at his personal page, there's the pic along with other designs but let me tell you that those two ducks doesn't look like the same. Heh, Aaron seems to have the same messy hair that Al.

I feel like this flashback is dragging a bit.

We need Wally and Kirby giving some MST3K commentary while watching Ditto-Vision.
>>
Oh I see, but I wouldn't say that it sucks. For me this arc has been good, but no like the other arcs because ineeded, this arc has a lot of problems between the way of how Wally and Co appear and disappear for the convenience of the story, the idea of the buddibombs it's not that believable and it also highlight a problem that the comic has in general: many things or plots resolve or happen by mere coincedence
>>
>>84258088
Now the Marx thing is probably right, but there's no way this is Mallard. If we're going by looks, the clothes and hair are wrong, and he doesn't have the glasses. I'd assume Mallard always looked at least a little like he did, but the only similarities here are that he's the same species, and this new guy claims to be in charge.
>>
>>84258273
Fuck, this was for >>84258088
>>
>>84258150
It would have helped If he has explained himself with his first post
>>
>>84258395

it would, but assuming outright that he hates the arc because of holly is pretty stupid and reeks if waifufaggotry, would have asked why instead...
>>
>>84258273
>>84258293

I think the biggest and most correct thing you hit on was one word. Convenience.

>>84258288

There is no doubt in my mind this isn't Mallard. The hair, the eccentric mannerisms. And, of course, it would make sense in the realm of Aaron's writing.
>>
>>84258229
>I feel like this flashback is dragging a bit.
I have no idea why Aaron keeps sticking to the shitty 4 panel format.
The arc isn't even that bad, it's the format that is awful.
>>
>>84258288
>>84258501

i don't understand why people think this is mallard... He's not the only duck on the universe, and also he was a scientist for apex so we will probably see him with an uniform at the very least.

>>84258549

he's been doing it for years, and it worked fine when he used to update 5 times a day, hell, this arc would be done if he could still update properly... still, i rather have 3 updates a week than dead Aaron and no comic.
>>
>>84258613
>i don't understand why people think this is mallard
>Guys that totally isn't Marx in cat form trust me
>it actually is marx

>>
>>84258613

>5 times a day
i meant a week
>>
>>84258636

except this duck looks and acts nothing like Mallard? the only similarity is that he's a duck.
>>
>>84258273
Yeah, I feel the ditto vision is dragging on a bit and has become a bit of a writing crutch (much as the dittos in general have), forgetting its own rules in the process.

Honestly, at this point I'm thinking it would have been a good idea to keep it about Holly, just to show what she went through up to the restaurant, then keep the Endtown exposition for a later flashback or story from Doc, possibly at the end of the arc.
>>
>>84258672

It actually does look like him. Same hair, same mannerisms. That IS Mallard.
>>
>>84258450
Well I don't doubt that there's people who hate this arc for that only reason, but yeah, maybe I take conclusions to quickly. My sincerely apologies to that anon.

I don't have much of a problem with this arc. Sometimes Endtown is better in piecemeal updates because HAPPENINGS build suspense, like Holly's transformation/baby and Unity burning down.

Other times it's better read in chunks. This is just one of those other times.

>>84258273
>many things or plots resolve or happen by mere coincedence
Well that's sort of because the Deus Ex Marxina. Endtown's constantly under tampering by cosmic entities.

>>84258852
I'm not taking a position on whether or not it's Mallard, but keep in mind he basically kept Endtown together for the last half a decade

You ever seen Presidents of the United States before and after their terms? Time and stress age you like a motherfucker.
>>
>>84258892
>Which was the point to this arc.

Actually it isn't, didn't Aaron say that the Arc was about "Life choices and consequences"?, that had nothing to do with fixing a problem or redeeming anyone.
>>
The only problem I have with this Arc is that the pacing slowed way down when we switched to Holly's point of view. Before that things were rocketing along from dramatic moment to dramatic moment.

>The arc isn't even that bad, it's the format that is awful.
It really seems that the format is fucking him over for this arc, you can see that here he try to make the sequences more "cinematic"? But then the 4 panel cuts him off.

>>84258695
>Honestly, at this point I'm thinking it would have been a good idea to keep it about Holly
Well, in the beginning it really seemed that it was about her, but then Doc takes control and you start asking to yourself: Who's the backstory? It's like Aaron told himself: "now we have Doc, why don't kill two birds with one stone and make it about him too?" the problem is that this makes the arc more long that it should be and it becomes really overwhelming.
>>
Aaron is obviously taking us to see how Endtown started from a place in the sewers. y'know, the massive stream of water under the bridges and that big grating at the end? that's what remains of the sewers? where does the water go and come from? HMMMM....
>>
>>84259132
Don't forget that Endtown is a mile or two underground, though. And it's implied to have been pre-built, not the work of the survivors.
>>
>>84259085
Wow. Is Aaron some kind of pseudo intellectual with a god complex? He isn't as smart as he thinks he is.

>>
>>84259048
DUDE, we are getting three updates a week. However consistent that might be, its stil only 12 little windows for 7 days. You can thoroughly digest all of the information got from that in about 2 minutes. 2 minutes of around 5000 you spend awake every week. It used to be 5 pages and it almost fucking killed Aaron.

The point is, we all probably bingeread this entire thing at some point two years ago, up to the boiling point of the Unity arc.

Try to look at it from this perspective, had the Milk trial arc needed to use the same format and move at the same pace as this one, people would probably give it some shit. Maybe not, maybe yes. The thing is, in hindsight, after reading that whole thing at our own paces we can all agree how fucking good and well paced that whole part is.

All im saying is, give this arc time it needs and observe it from another, less instant perspective. Understand that quality pacing requires more than frantic, hyperactive emotional rollercoasting from one extreme to another. You cant know the highs without lows and vice-versa.

I personally have a lot of faith in Aaron, but I also disagree with many, MANY views and points you guys make about the strip. Mainly the everlasting notion this niche fandom has regarding realism, harsh drama, depression, naturalism and their paramaout role as the cornerstone of the strip, rather than an important, but not so crucial pillar.

You all fuckers should sulk less, get outside more.

>>84259661

i do, remember when Gustine had to break his door down to so he could listen to them?

>>
>>84259619
I get your point, all the arcs have high and low points and seems that we are watching the low ones; it just needs time to pick up again. But the having to wait for updates make this feel moere long that it is. After all Endtown is a webcomic, and like all the other webcomics it's better once that is finished.

>>
>>84262400

i don't know, i do feel like stuff is slowing down, the human holly sequence, even with all the wally and kirbee commentary, felt a lot more fast paced.
>>
>>84262471
Yeah, but at that time people was also excited to see how Holly lost the baby and that contributed a little with everyone speculating how it would be. Even then, the scene of the escape in the car and the cafe still felt somehow "fast"
>>

It could be, specially with Farx, even his actions were hard to tell in the last panel of the first time he appears.

Standard international shipping depends on a lot of people giving a fuck in two different countries. It's a matter of one person in said chain to not bother with his work for a card to get lost.

It shouldn't be too expensive to send postcards with tracking, for that matter.

>I don't think he's implying that...

he does seem to be implying that holly is not going to get better after this flashback ends...
>>
>>84283250
What I get for this is that the point of the flashback is about identify life choices with their consequences to that way make a step foward. But again, in the end everything depends on what Holly wants to do with her life...
>>
>>84283395
>life choices with their consequences to that way make a step foward.

this is where i have a problem, having marx jumping around and helping them literally denies her the full consequences of her actions...
>>
>>84283522
Well, you can say that she suffer more or less the concequences of her actions, but yeah the fact of how they found the storm drain could have been better handle that just saying: "It was Marx lol" shit, that part even feels rushed he directly gives them explicit instructions and then fucks off to supposedly "die".
>>
>>84283395
He did make a comment specifically about Holly at one point though, in response to a question, something ominous along the lines of

>"Is Holly going to come out of this in one piece?"

>"Depends on what your definition of "one piece" is."

I like that theory that she's going to leave part of herself behind in the ditto world and it's going to become a corrupted partial copy of her with a ditto body.

Let's say that it happens, if the corrupted version awakes that means that we will get a evil version of her, in other words:

I think that was my email.

Asked him some other questions, but before that I said I like what's going on so far and hope Holly gets out of this flashback in one piece.
>>
>>84285901

i was expecting holly to just not get better... it never occurred to me it might actually worsen things for her.
>>
>>84286472
I really think whoever's behind it has an ulterior motive - she's being made to relive her journey to Endtown so an enemy can find out some critical information about it. My bet's on an alternate entrance that doesn't rely on the tubes.

The reaction from Lyn was less "This is private" or "You're not helping her enough" and more "Fuck, a fly in the ointment. Do NOT interfere."

I wonder if the sudden lack of Wally, Kirbee and Chic signifies they've been ejected and our viewpoint character is now just Holly, either as a witness or even living out her own memories? We might see her start to "desynchronise" from the replay soon, going "Wait, this feels familiar..." and "Hold on, this has all happened already!"

i think it's just easier and faster for Aaron to ignore wallyxkirbeexchic for now, i mean, they witnessed Ethel's death, even though we never saw them for a second.

You people have the stupidest ideas.

>>84286472
>it never occurred to me it might actually worsen things for her
Maybe that thing of the "two Hollys" is very likely to happen. Wally discovers the real intentions of the mastermind behind the ditto illusion and tries to stop him, something goes wrong and the material composition of Holly gets fucked up (after all it makes sense, because we saw her "disintegrate" before entering to the flashback)

>>84286710
>she's being made to relive her journey to Endtown so an enemy can find out some critical information about it.
Now I wonder who would be this enemie and why he wants so bad to now where Endtown is,and why I feel this has something to do with the events of Pep stadium?

>>84286934

That's true, put them into the scene would have complicated with all the datails that this already have.
> i mean, they witnessed Ethel's death, even though we never saw them for a second.
I'm starting to believe that it doesn't matter how far they are of the place where the flashback it's taking place, they would still hear and see everything.

is there a more smug looking species of lizard than geckos
>>
>>84291540
>geckos

has anyone asked Aaron what kidn of lizard kirbee is? or the whole unity community for that matter...
>>
>>84291595
She just seems to be a "lizard", possibily consequence of the cartoon logic
>>
>>84291595
I think someone did at one point and the answer is literally "lizard", like they're a generic mishmash. IIRC one of the emails hinted that that's how anthros mostly work in the Endtown universe - Wally isn't a housecat or a wildcat or a fishing cat, he's just a cat, Holly isn't a field mouse or a house mouse, she's just a mouse... some kind of cartoon logic again.
>>
>>84291644
>>84291660

i see, well, it kind of feels like he's been applying that cartoon logic late in the game, catnip cat from the restaurant sure looks like a bobcat, also there's the lion who stole his backpack.
>>
>>84291765
Lions are not essencially cats, they're felines and bobcats could be considered a different species since they're the cross between a lyxn and a normal cat.
>>
>>84291895

Fair enough, i assumed he was "generalizing" every species by the way he describes it...
>>
>>84291765
Right, but the lion guy won't be an asiatic lion or one of the african lions, he'll just be a lion. Similarly the bobcat guy will just be a bobcat, not any of the twelve or something subspecies. I think it goes by what people will recognise (in fact, I think Aaron said exactly this at some point). So some species-complexes get collapsed to a single generic species, while entire orders like lizards get condensed into a single thing too.
>>
>>84291987
>i assumed he was "generalizing" every species by the way he describes it...
What he is generalizing is the concept of the animal per se. You can see how there's different types of mutant birds (roosters, geese, ducks, etc.) if he was generalizing every species as one they would look like Chic, all belong to the same category but they have enough characteristics to differentiate from each other, let's put it in this way: if someone told you "think in a normal bird" you would think in Chic but then if the same person told you "think in a duck" you would think in Mallard. Both of them are birds but their designs are very different.
The case with the cats in the other hand goes like this: if you told me "think in a black cat" I will think in one, if then you told me "think in a white cat with black dots and a stripe pattern" I will think in one, both have differents designs but in the end they're the same thing: a cat, and that means they share the same physical characteristics, because when you hear "cat" you already know how a cat is, and when you hear "bird" you think in some generic bird like Chic, and then you hear "duck" you already know what it is and why is different from a normal bird. Hope that this help you to left it more in clear.
