What impresses me is it gets better. I feel like it's gotten consistently more interesting and more well-executed as it has gone on. And stuff has been built on, it's a little snippet of a whole world. A crazy 90s extreme punishment world, but still a whole world for all that.

I am being serious when I say the Bulletin solicitation box is one of the funnest parts of reading this run (thank god for scans)

For instance- Hey look, Nightwatch #5, Marvel's barely palette swapped Spawn.
Blaze #1! Because it's the early 90s and Ghost Rider/Midnight Sons is THE HOTTEST SHIT. So hot Blade got his first titular series as spinoff.
Barbie- Almost into her FIFTH year of having a Marvel book being cosold next to Bill Shatner's Tekwar.

but you have to 1) have access to those in the first place (literally the ONLY used bookstore within like a 20mi radius of me is a HPB outlet) and 2) be super lucky that the thing you want is even there

Brick and mortar stores in general need to go to hell, even though I'm employed at one. The two things they have over online, customer service and stock, they don't even have anymore.

But yeah with used stores they're mostly for just going and picking shit up on a whim. Today got the complete collected Hitman, the Vertigo Haunted Tank, vol. 5 of the Doom Patrol Archives, and the second volume of Kirby's Jimmy Olsen for under 40 bucks. They also had ALL the original printings of Sandman Mystery Theater but I passed on them because better reprints are coming.

Between e-books and the library I've gotten into the habit of not buying physical books unless they're in the specific format (usually early edition hardcovers) I want. Although I also just enjoy spending time in well-stocked used bookstores.

I did shift most of my non-trade comic collection to digital because it meant less shuffling around in long boxes when I wanted to read. (Plus being able to snack while reading is nice.)

Honestly, things going to shit with EVERY other vigilante pretty much immediately is so standard it's cliche.

I'd like a good working relationship to last for at least a couple dozen issues, then maybe have the conflict come up.

It'd make the whole theme of examining why vigilantes are so dangerous way more poignant. As it is, it's always just that the protagonist vigilante is somehow special, and all the other ones aren't.

Fuck, every issue of Punisher 2099 is a grim prediction of what will be.

Not might, will.
Our only possible chance to avoid this is to have the equally undesirable societal collapse that devolves us back to the iron age.

Vendetta's suddenly a lot more sympathetic.

If it's on Didio senpai's favorite list and it does Gotham Academy numbers, it can last longer. Plus I think DC is looking forward to trade sales because Yang is sort of a big name in bookstore market and I also think they're going to market it towards Chinese people.

Ouch.

Having someone who's just as willing to kill as you criticize your methods as sloppy, half-hearted AND ultimately as or more cruel than their own...

...that's rough. Way harsher than someone like Batman or Spider-man doing it.

>>
>>84220399
I suppose that Jake could've gotten someone teen pregnant as early as 17 or 18 and it wouldn't be TOTALLY screwed up, but yeah, he's a teen at most without it being completely fucked up.
>>
>>84220301
Honestly, she doesn't exactly have a "standard" grasp on gender normative behavior. Given her background, it's not that strange that she'd have somewhat atypical interpretations of said behavior and instincts.

And it's not as if there aren't incredibly cruel and violent women and incredibly merciful and nurturing men out there. "Normatives" aren't absolutes.
>>
>>84220506
For real though she's not wrong, she's criticizing a particular kind of masculine "honour" right? Taking it up to a generality ignores what's actually on that page. Her problem with men is general, but what she's actually saying on that page is specific.
>>
>>84220338
Go, OP, Go!
>>
>>84220549
She's not necessarily wrong, yeah.

How many thugs have had their torsos blown a hole through by the Punisher, who then walked off quipping a one-liner, leaving them to slowly bleed out in agony, maybe dying in a local clinic or hospital with their grief-stricken families wailing over their body?

Even criminals have loved ones, and dehumanizing them by seeing them as "crime symptoms" or "one less scumbag" IS less merciful, in a way, than going hardcore and finishing them off then and there.

Of course, slowly burning someone to death is far from healthy behavior, too, so it isn't as if she really has the moral high ground or anything.
>>
>>84220640
A comic with INCENDIGEL probably can't afford to get too much into moral high grounds in any case. I think it's all fine for what this is.
>>
>>84219016
is that punisher... female? wtf

The miner's wives bit is a bit creepy to me - reminds me of a bit from an old Cyberpunk campaign. Basically with AI and uplifts and stuff around some definitions of sentient being became necessary, and so some enterprising types started making what you might call labor retards.
Strong, toxin resistant, perpetually happy, almost immune to trauma, and happy to get fucked for a ham sandwich.

I won't say there wasn't a BNW influence, but IIRC I did try to avoid it. Or at least mask any one influence with tons of others - and since there were multiple GMs working different parts of the campaign world there were _tons_ of influences.

Sadly they never got to the Fraggle Rock part.
