I admit I am a little worried about the reported time-skip. Seems like it could have made for meaningful and interesting character driven stories (rather than even driven stories).
It seems likely that they are doing it for arc purposes, though.
The reveal of the the black and white lady at the end of season 3 doesn't work well thematically to then immediately ignore for a whole or even half season of mini-arcs developing the characters.
They really want to start the "big-bad" arc, which is just a shame. Could have been great story telling.

possibly the best change in the animation software switch is that we will have much better hands.
Due to having shading painted onto the model textures, the hands looked terrible all the time, unless balled up into fists. Now that they are actually using shading, instead of cheating it, we will have shaded hands that will look great.
The shading will take a while to get used to, but it is definitely the right direction... Although the animations do look a little poor at points of the fight scenes (everything outside of the fights looks much better) but I guess that is expected as monty, shane & dillon are gone.

Taking into account that s3 revealed that 2 previously introduced characters had robotic limbs all along (and that they exist in Remnant), the most likely answer is that she'll get one late S4 or early S5.
If they had timeskiped and just gave her the arm she would just be Yangsty but fully functional and it would be difficult getting out of that. So getting the arm might be an important step in her character development.
I just hope that they don't exaggerate on the yangst and make her annoying instead of justifyingly edgy, so we get Yang 2.0 and not Adam 0.5.

As someone who always thought RWBY was shit, I can vouch that the back half of S3 actually told a decent story, and has me interested in where the show goes next.
Animation and VA are still lacking, but the former looks to be improved by the switch to Maya, and the latter by bringing in pro VAs. At this point, the biggest problem is that the secondary characters have far better voice acting than the protagonists.

Honestly, I thought the shows quality drastically increased after Monty's death. Season 1 and 2 were good and all, but some of the animation was shitty at best, and I personally felt like the story was trash (so much poorly done set up, so little pay off). Yang was going to fight Adam and still get beaten and lose her arm, where's the problem there? If anything it clears up the plothole about how Adam's attack completely breaks Yang's aura in one hit, which is a massive power inconsistency

If Yang demonstrated that she was already capable of holding Adam to a close fight, there's far less of a sense of real challenge and need for growth on the part of our protagonists.

This. And this is also why it's ok for her to get one without invalidating the injury. It's not the arm. It's that her life fell apart, her friends left her, her mom didn't help her, and her being effortlessly defeated despite the hype that she was one of the toughest people around. Not to mention Ruby going off and saving the day, getting superpowers and then running off with other people to keep doing so basically cutting off her primary reason for living all those years. Ruby's grown up and does'nt need big strong Yang to look after her. If anything she's going to be stronger than her now.
That's not something you can just stick a robo arm on and get right back like nothing ever happened.

Adam came off as too powerful mostly for a cheap shock attempt. That's why they had to backtrack and say Yang's aura was weakened and Adam's semblence was charged from his fight with Blake and he can't usually spam those super cuts because otherwise he looks like this unstoppable engine of death with super hits that drop someone from 100 aura to nothing in one shot, and then you'd be wondering why anyone could ever challenge him and why the White Fang hasn't killed all the humans with their wargod killing everyone in everyone.
Obviously he's not that powerful, but when you have to scramble to provide an explaination that's not a good sign of your writing.
Meanwhile Yang fighting against Adam for awhile and losing and getting her arm lopped off in the final hit gets the point across nicely, that Adam is just a better fighting at the moment, without requring a big dramatic scene that can't be repeated in other fights.
But instead, much like many things in Vol 3 they opted for whatever would get the most dramatic reaction from youtube reactors over a stable story.
