A shit ton of (arguably) good action cartoons got unceremoniously canceled in the early 2010's for a number of reasons (Sym-Bionic Titan, Avengers:EMH, GL:TAS, Beware the Batman, Young Justice, Motorcity, Tron Uprising, GI Joe Renegades, etc.). Even Korra got pushed off the air and had its last few seasons online-only. Literally the only action shows that were still in production and not a comedy were TMNT 2012, and that was (and still is) on constant hiatus, and the god-awful Marvel cartoons, so it's fair to say that the future of action cartoons on network TV look pretty fucking murky and everyone's hesitant in investing themselves into it by fear of getting cancelled or silently brushed under the rug by network meddling.
Hopefully Voltron will set a good example and more action show creators will turn toward services like netflix for funding.

Are you for real? The reason it didn't work in Gravity Falls is exactly because they had a fuckton of established plot points that went absolutely nowhere. All Jack did was Kenshiro around and help people. After the first three episodes, there's absolutely no continuity aside from Scotsman. It's basically a "What if?" of popular action movies where they replaced the hero with a samurai.
