Does Canada even exist?
>>
>>84183205
The terrible flash cartoons aren't just spontaneously willing themselves into existence.
>>
As a Canadian I can verify. No, we do not.
>>
>>84183205
It exists in the hearts and minds of all good boys and girls.

Wolverine is from Canada, and wolverine is fictional. Draw your own conclusions from there.

But seriously, I was very disillusioned by the last election, it doesn't exist to me anymore. I can't understand the intent of all the political factions and special interest groups, trying to optimize profits, or push agendas, when our ability to influence the world around us is eroding as debts accrue, and our national identity is as firmly held as a daydream. Instead we have a system where if everyone keeps pretending that it works, maybe things will keep on as they have been? And we keep on pretending more and more fanciful things because we seem to exist insulated from consequence.

I haven't been deeply attached to politics for a while, it never seems real when you're young, I know, but I'm only two years away from losing the ability to call myself young, and it's been getting worse. It makes more sense to think of it as a story.

Who is the story for, /co/?

Americans? They might outlast us in the reverse-race of who's government can get fucked into the ground first.
>>
>>84183205
It exists, but it's not really a country, It's just Jimmy Hoffa's Lair of Solitude.
>>
>>84183638
>But seriously, I was very disillusioned by the last election,
We need a pirate party
But most people swing from voting from conservatives to liberals without glancing at the other parties. Harper sucked an so people swing to liberals.
You should need a permit to vote... though they'd probably charge you 1.2k to get the damn thing
>>
>>84183748
>people swing from voting from conservatives to liberals without glancing at the other parties
Is a non-partisan government impossible, it might be slightly less convenient but if people could do it 100s of years ago I'm sure we could do it now.
>>
>>84183774
It was kinda happening but then Jack got butt cancer and nobody gave a fuck about the NDP afterwards.

We nominally have other parties, but by and large a given riding isn't a 3-way race... But that's not why I quoted you. It's sports, or racing, or astrology. One side is bad, and the other is less bad.

Electoral reform would be awesome, but sober appraisal of issues isn't as easy as delegation, and we'll have the same issues with any delegation system, when delegates need to compete for power. Who would vote for direct democracy?

Are there any comics, or hell, even books, exploring the idea?

Do any countries even exist? I mean the land they're on definitely exists, but if everybody died or lost their memories there wouldn't be any Canada, USA and Mexico. COUNTRIES ONLY EXIST IN OUR MINDS!!
>>
>>84183890
We would probably figure it out if it was only memories. You could work out what country you were in from your facebook profile.
>>
>>84183205
Canada is a figment leaf of your American imagination.

>>84183834
proportionally representative democracy would be better than the first past-the-pole bullshit we have now
>>
>>84183961
I'm sure we'd find a way to fuck it up, but I do agree.
>>
>>84183989
Well there's always the risk of groups that need just that little bit more to get something through compromising with radical fringe groups that have 1% of the vote

But I'm still naive enough to have faith in humanity

No. Australia doesn't exist either.
>>
>>84184968
You aren't fooling me. Everyone knows that Australia exists. It's right beside Narnia, just north of the North Pole

Meh Americans just think of Canada as that really big Wisconsin style state up there that keeps trying to convince itself and the world that it is a totally different unique foreign nation. Despite having the exact same language, accent, culture, tv, etc as Americans.

There are individual states that look and feel ten times more foreign and weird to the average American than Canada.
>>
>>84183633
Is that supposed to be the white house? Because the canuks didn't burn down the white house. The brits did.
>>
>>84186765
That's because what you described basically IS Canada. Just with people who say aboat instead of about and sorey instead of sorry.

Countries are the lines in the sand that people say "I DAREST YA TO STEP OVER DIS LINE!"
>>
Canada was created to test proposed new media laws requiring a percentage of all programing to be from that country.

The experiment was a dismal failure but nobody had the heart to tell the poor fool who proposed them so they just keep going.

I went to Nevada a few months ago, and was staggered by how much of it was actual desert. It was like no other place I'd ever been to.

Quebec is in their own world. Regular Canada hates them for obvious reasons and France hates them because they sound like retards.
