Hey there gals and pals!
Today marked the release of the latest issue of Jem and the Holograms which wraps up the current story arc, "DARK JEM" and I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be outrageous to storytime the whole thing?"
Anyway! A quick FAQ for new readers!
>What is this comic about?
Jerrica and her sisters formed a band called the Holograms, but Jerrica has anxiety or ibs or something so she can't perform on stage. Luckily their father was a mad scientist or whatevs so they have access to super science holograms they use to make Jerrica into Jem!
There's a rival band called the Misfits. The two bands don't like each other. Except for the two members who are dating.
Recently, Pizzazz, lead singer of the Misfits, got into a car accident and messed her throat up so now she can't sing.
>Why is Stormer/Aja fat?
Because they're american. POLITICS!
And Sophie Campbell, who designed the characters for the comic, really likes body diversity and drawing people who look different from each other.
>Why do gay/trans people exist?
Because SJW t. Tumblr pandering and I dunno, cucks?
So with all that said, it's showtime Synergy!
I love Pizzazz's nerdy pjs.
ACTING!
Totally not Fluttershy at the bottom there. Totally.
Haha, now it is Clash's time to shine!
>Pale giraffe
I really want Jerrica's swim suit.
Haha! Mind breaks for everybody!
Figure I can skip the recap page.
Also, clench your buttholes my /co/mrades, this issue spends like a whole two pages in the entire series talking about a character being trans.
Yay, it's the Starlight Girls!
Said no one ever!
I want a shattered glass dress...
Hotdog with mustard hair.
Is Clash about to drop a light rigging here? She's probably thinking about it.
Is that butthole still clenched?
There, you may now unclench. I hope you didn't get triggered too hard.
Monotone sniping.
I want Jem's impossible shoes.
</3
Can you feel the edge just LEAPING OFF THE PAGE?
A rather minimalist cover.
Zombers don't care for the vocals of hotdog with mustard hair.
Rio's hair disapproves.
Those of you who watched the cartoon may find this scene familiar.
This scene, less familiar tho.
Truly this is Good Rio.
Sonic attack?
I friggin love the effect of Jem cracking up here.
>>84141154
holy shit he rejected jem this is nothing like the show
Finally a Rio I don't hate
And Sophie said, "I'm bored of glam rockers, can I draw monsters again?"
>>84141179
I KNOW RIGHT!
Did Jerrica interrupt some gay sex shenanigans? Let's say, "MAYBE".
>Rio's hair sticking out
MONTAGE!
Pretty.
You probably know who everyone is by now, so skipping the cast page.
Dat fuzzy sweater tho.
Also, anyone else think that they probably dated/are dating?
I love how Eric looks like a cartoon devil.
And then EVERYONE sneaks off for some nookie. Which is a priority when there's a brainwashing AI on the loose.
I'll bet no one cares that he's fat now as well as less successful than his cartoon counterpart.
Wow.
Her dress is literally a monster coughing her up and her hair is making scary shapes. I friggin' love this book.
Horrifying computer murder. And sharp teeth.
Well, this isn't going well.
That's a helluva cover.
BABBY HOLOGRAMS!
The girls have not changed at all in 15 years.
And much like the cartoon, the cliffhanger is resolved rather anticlimactically.
ANTICS!
Also, I want Blaze's boots so bad.
Techrat is hating every second of this.
>>84141531
!!!!!!!!!!!
Fun with fonts!
>Join the dark side!
>>84141554
Shocked by Techrat?
I can only imagine they gave them both wet willies.
THE HEROINE APPEARS!
>Clash's heart eyes
And here it is, gals and pals!
It all ends here!
Also this is Sophie Campbell's last issue for at least awhile. She's going to work on personal projects and TMNT for awhile.
Overuse of s-stuttering? Maybe.
The Blaze stays!
Jem is kind of a bitch!
>OUTRAGEOUS
'Bout damn time!
Just a head's up, the next few pages may make your eyes explode. Be sure to wear protective eye wear.
GLAM ROCK, BITCHES!
AND FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC!
Jerrica pushed the "Fix Everything" button.
RIP SIlica
And lesbians!
Well I guess everything is fine forever and there are no more possible things that can go wrong or anything that could add future complications to anyone's lives.
Well except these jerks.
It's the STINGERS!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9CycKISFKo
RIOT HAS A LOT OF MAEKUP!
And Raya is already gay for Jem. Like instantly.
Character sheets!
Dem tiny feets.
And that's Dark Jem, gals and pals!
I hope you had a truly truly outrageous time full of glamour and glitter, fashion and fame.
So until next time, show's over Synergy!
>>84140714
>And Sophie Campbell, who designed the characters for the comic, really likes body diversity and drawing people who look different from each other.
...And likes outragously fat asses like Frank Miller likes Nazi Hookers.
>>84141864
Fabio what happened to you
>>84142142
They decided to put the FAB in Fabio.
>>84141854
While I'll miss Sophie's work on his book, I'm glad she was able to redesign the Stingers before her hiatus from the book... Also, very interesting way to introduce Raya since they've already sown the seeds for Shana's fashion-based departure
>>84142068
To be fair, there are probably more fat people in the US than there are Nazi Hookers.
>>84142739
That's too easy, with America pushing, what 60 percent morbid obesity?
I would take the bet of more nazi hookers > morbidly obese glam rock/fashion stars in America, both in raw number and per capita of their respective industries.
>>84142379
So, is the book going on hiatus? Because I can't think of too many people who could load up this level of hypercolor.
>>84140763
>Watch some classic films already, you savages.
I think I'm in love.
>>84143015
>So, is the book going on hiatus?
Nope!
Dunno why it still has Campbell on here, the new artist is Meredith McClaren. Besides, Sophie wasn't in charge of the colors, read the crew page you filthy pleb casual!
>>84140860
It is really cute.
>>84140806
It occurs to me that the gal in the lower right has this serieseses first septum piercing.
If you're a fan/follower of Campbell, you'd be shocked that this has been the only one thus far.
Clash's hair changes between the first and second issues
>>84143514
And Pizzazz shaved her head in issue 6.
Welcome to Jem and the Holograms, my friend.
>>84141667
>personal projects
These projects wouldn't happen to be Shadoweyes, would they?
>>84143560
Hm. Well, so far, I'm really enjoying this.
>>84143577
I know she's working on Wet Moon and Turtles and I know she's revamped the Shadoweyes website and put out a remastered vol 1 collection.
But I dunno for sure if she's working on new stuff for it.
>>84143606
Glad to hear it! It's why I storytime, to spread the outrageousness.
>>84143118
Oh wait, I messed up. Meredith takes over for an arc starting issue #19. 18 and 17 are done by Jen Bartel, who's art style used here reminds me of the art used for the dolls' boxes.
>>84141891
I'm so glad Raya is finally in the book
>>84144771
Same.
Really interested to see what they do with her starting on a rival band.
Reading bump.
Thank you!
>>84141424
This is my favorite page out of the whole thing, and only for that Giant Days panel.
It reminds me of the days of the 80s and 90s independent and undergeound comic book scene in America, where cartoonists lived within the community that their work created, and were receptive to eachothers works within works of their own. Everything from Robert Crumb's Witchita the Rat Dancer to that issue of Gen 13 that crossed over with Strangers in Paradise of all things (among others).
Plus, it works a lot better than a shared superhero universe: it feels like a much bigger world where Silica coexists not with Optimus Prime, but with Esther, Susan and Daisy. It makes you feel like that universe has many different kinds of stories and many different kinds of problems other than superheroics.

And I have no idea why I'm drawn to this series. I think it is nostalgia from seeing the cartoon as a kid even though it is before my time. I usually read violent and gritty stuff, not super brightly colored pop stories.
>>84148421
Sometimes you need a break from the nitty gritty. I personally wasn't a fan until I was all grows up and I saw it on the Hub.
Really hope that collection has some extras, but I'll probably still get it for the pver sized pages. The art is friggin lovely.

>>84151055
It's Pizzazz's cup, so of course it is.
I hope she doesn't become Riot's mind slave like in the cartoon, because that was depressing as fuck.

>>84141725I hope she turn into a good character than rather been a Claire knockoff from questionable content
Ooh
>>84161528
They're already not even comparable. At this point, Claire has no character, she's just an amorphous blob titled "Perfect Girlfriend."
Blaze is fine and it looks like in the upcoming issues she's going to butt heads with Pizzazz over leadership of the Misfits, despite her quick step aside.
They could change shirts and hair in every panel and I'd be fine with it. I don't care much about the plot but I love the designs and art.
Does Sophie Campbell do just inks or colours too? Give her all the money she wants to stay. Chain her up if you gotta.
>>84163239
>>84141667
Inks and pencils. And I'm fine with her doing other stuff if she wants to. Jem is a fairly artistically intense book and she has her own comics she wants to work on.
>>84141838
Does.this mean Synergy is going to be Jem most of the time now?

>the fat one is "extremely athletic"
I really don't give a shit that they made Aja fat,on the contrary, I have a thing for fattiesbut I wish people would stop jamming the whole "fat is healthy, too!" thing down people's throats. If she were really "extremely athletic", she wouldn't be fat.

Bzzzzt! Sorry, wrong answer. Check your chromosomes and try again.
>>84140992
I just got triggered by her taking the Lord's name in vain.
I mean, I'm not really, but does anyone else see how that doesn't fit with the whole hipster/tumblr/SJW mantra of "never offend anyone"? Although I suppose the actual creed would be "never offend anyone unless they're cis/male/white/christian/part of any existing, majority establishment".
These people are allowed to believe that they're a certain gender/race/whatever trapped in the body of something else, but believing in Jesus is stupid and archaic?

>And I have no idea why I'm drawn to this series. I think it is nostalgia from seeing the cartoon as a kid even though it is before my time. I usually read violent and gritty stuff, not super brightly colored pop stories.
I never watched the original cartoon at all, but this book caught my interest because IDW typically knocks it out of the park with licensed shit, and I wanted to see what angle they'd take with it. It's been decent. I've only read the issues with Campbell on art, though.
Personally, I was hoping they'd take it in a slightly more OUTRAGEOUS direction. I ultimately wanted something that could crossover with Transformers and the like, but since they're specifically leaving Jem out of the new Hasbro-verse crossover, I assume they never planned on it, and are going to keep this a mostly-grounded teen soap opera.
>>84166675
More outrageous than a mind controlling AI that could only be defeated by rock and friendship?
>>84167579
See, the idea itself sounds outrageous on paper, but the execution was pretty damn dry. The story itself never really made the stakes seem high. It told us that the virus infecting everyone would be dangerous, but it didn't show us. It was just sort of a vague threat with no real weight attached.
>>84140755
>Male tears cup
Aaaaaaaand DROPPED.

>insanely rushed and underdeveloped romance like Stormer and Kimber
I hear this a lot and I really don't see how they were any more rushed than the other romances in the book. Hell, in comparison, they took their sweet time.
Let's break it down:
-Rio and Jerrica met in issue 2, chatted for a bit, then had a date and were smooching by the end of 3. Then they were just default together from then on.
-Aja and Craig met in issue 5 by literally running into each other and they share a couple panels chatting. We next see them in issue 7 already together, dating, and making out.
-Shana and Tony met in the holiday special (after 10 and before 11) when Shana was outrageously drunk after a bad date. They talk for a page and then they meet again in 11 where they talk for a page then he shows up at her hotel door in 14 and they're smooching and dating.
-Kimber and Stormer met in issue 2 and had coffee and chatted for two pages, Pizzazz had a bitchfit in issue 3 and forbid Stormer from seeing Kimber. Kimber mopes for a bitand then texts Stormer at the end of 3. In issue 4 the two meet again and Stormer tells her that they can't date because rivalry. Kimber, who LIVES for drama, then chases after her and they kiss. After that they date in secret through issue 5 and then shit gets fucked because of Clash dropping a light rigging on Aja. Following this they avoid each other until issue 9 where they get back together at a party, talk, and resume dating.
Really doesn't seem rushed to me.
>>84171889
Also worth mentioning is that Kimber and Stormer both knew of each other and were fond of them before they met because one was a celebrity and one was a blogger about said celebrity as well as the whole competition thing.
>>84141904
KITTEH!
>>84172008
Best kitteh!
>>84141154
Best possible Rio. Good on him. Though this entire thing is going to eat Jerrica alive isn't it? I hope we get to see her mental break where she invents a third identity in the comics too!
>>84141183
This is fucking insane but the art is amazing. Thanks, Sophie. I sometimes forget you can do more than draw cute people with pouty lips
>>84141247
>And the Starlight Girls!

>>84141315
Eric is honestly being pretty reasonable in light of the insane shit happening.
>>84172885

>>84173290
GOOD RIO!
Learn the difference!
>>84141392
>"Kimber, that sounds like supervillain or serial killer talk. What are you about to do?"
Seriously, based on the events of that day and night what kind of insane conclusions could Stormer draw from that last line?
>>84141653
>Jem and Pizzazz wearing each others' colors
That's adorable
>>84168622
>>84169001
>>84173615
Pretty sure this series will end in them fucking.
>>84173155
Fun fact, there was gonna be a scene with the gothified Starlight Girls but it got cut to save Sophie the time she'd spend designing all of them.
Maybe I'll try requesting in a drawthread sometime.

>>84179468
I feel bad that Blaze got to front only for zombers and never a proper audience.
I wonder if that'll be a point of contention in coming issues.
Outrageous factoid of the night:
The On-Screen Smooch Totals!
Jerrica/Rio: 4, 5 if you count the Jem kiss
Aja/Craig: 4
Shana/Tony: 1
Kimber/Stormer: 6
Clash/Blaze: 1
Rio/Kimber: 1 too many

>'male tears' sexual harrassment mug
Is this supposed to be a joke.......?
>>84181365
What? Her lipstick matches her flower.
Eh, pretty cool. I have been weary of this series because of the obvious, but honestly it does it pretty well...all the things you could call pandering to certain groups really don't take precedent over the fact that it's actually pretty good. I GUESSS I can forgive the fact that Roxyfu is significantly less hot (and seemingly, much more boring) since the overall product seems to be good
Also, The Stingers have always ripped off Strypers look
>>84174689
I hope so.
>>84141864

And he's always been a fag, regardless of his sexual orientation.
>>84168622
>>84151055
I think it's perfectly in character for Pizzaz. Come to think of it, I wouldn't see it as out of character for Pizzaz to go full sarkesian for an arc and fake being internet bullied for sympathy, or some on some self serving fake sjw thing for drama.
>>84164768
I figure lardass there actually is very active from her personality, but just eats a third of her weight in fried cheese weekly.
>>84161528
>>84163081
QC doesn't actually have characters. It's got vaguely etherious wafts of personality quirks.
>>84174689
With any luck, the series will catch up enough with the perverts to get quality rule 34 out of the thing.
>>84181365
It's not supposed to be outragous, or truly outragous, or truly truly outragous anon. Get with the program.
>>84183907
Glad you enjoyed it, though I question what the "obvious" is, so it must not be that obvious!
Also holy hell this thread is still up!
And it's only had like seven or so shit posts!
Outrageous!
Since we're still here, have a bonus storytime of the outrageous annual!
It has furries, babies, Mad Max references besides Fury Road, and also Shana is in it!
So it's showtime, Synergy!
