Could a Wright theoretically damage or bypass first materials by doing something like creating a field of intense heat around it? Since the heat itself is not magical but natural? Or will it be nullified because its being manipulated by magic.

They can absolutely do that; in fact that's typically how one goes about dealing with First Materials. A First Material is as beholden to natural law as anything else. It's only supernatural manipulation via pymary that it's immune to. If you go waaay back to the very first chapter, this is how Duane deals with the Wandering Root. He starts a fire AROUND it, and it's burnt to a crisp. Or go back and look at how Anadyne dealt with Uaid. She didn't stab him directly with a spell; instead she created a earthen spike for him to step on.
