I haven't ever read anything with Batman in it until the recent Detective Comics, and I have to say that she is the least enjoyable character in the series so far.

The writing is passable and it still mostly has Williams on art for the first few years.
Then editorial wouldn't let them follow through on a story and they were immediately fired, leaving their run with no ending until the next (fucking wretched) run went back and ended it with an Annual.

It had very very nice art and ... pretty 'meh' writing, if I'm being honest. Most people dropped it as soon as the art team changed and everyone else did after a few issues because the writing was dull as fuck and the art wasn't anything to write home about either.

The out of sequence storytelling in this arc nearly killed this series.
Williams and Blackman aren't good enough writers to pull it off and it just ended up a jumbled mess until the next arc started.

It’s not surprising that Dini would make this pitch. As head writer of the Batman shows in the DCAU, he was critical in keeping the image of Barbara Gordon as Batgirl alive. In 1994 he added her to his Batman: the Animated Series and she also appeared in subsequent The New Batman Adventures. This pitch was made in 2000, at the end of “Adventures” run. And just about the same time that DC told Scott Peterson to find a “new” Batgirl.
Paul Dini had this idea of putting Barbara Gordon in the Lazarus Pit to revive her…spine, I guess,“ Ross said. "At least, that’s what he would’ve done in the television show had they continued doing more cartoons, and her spin was broken the way it was. I thought it was a great idea, and we pitched then-Batman editor Denny O'Neil with these drawings of that costume design.
