>I'm not goth I'm just drawn that way
Do you guys ever wonder how it feels for Raven to be so painfully goth? I don't think she is actually goth herself, she's just a stereotype of one for unrelated and necessary reasons.
Do you think she dislikes goths for making her so easy to label and mock as one of them? She does just happen to have all of the traits of a self-pitying emo edgelord, after all.
>Warns everyone about her "dark side"
>Needs to "meditate"
>Needs everyone to shut up around her
>Hates her dad
>Prefers to be alone
>Unhealthily pale skin
>Dark clothes including a fucking cloak
But in her case these are all justified, either as tradition of the culture she was raised in or to prevent herself from killing all of her friends. And it is a very sad thing that limits her ability to enjoy life and time with her friends. Do you think she would ever be annoyed with the idea that she's just goth; just being edgy and anti-social for the sake of being edgy and anti-social?

This is the nearest thing to a Teen Titans thread, so I'll ask my question here instead of opening a new thread for just a couple of question
I've started reading the New Teen Titans series recently, since it was suggested to me that the Wolfman/Perez period is one of the few good one for that team.
The problem is that a some point Perez stopped writing on it, so I'm not sure if I should go on. Is there something like an hard stop for the New Teen Titans series, after which the stories are for the most part shit?

>I just wish Raven threads where more than just mere image dumps.
/co/'s love for Raven is superficial and only stems from the god-tier 2003 show design. Before the CN series there was little to no interest in Teen Titans other than the occasional smattering of smutty commissioned pin-ups of mexican stripper Starfire from the comics.
Murakami's purple leotards/grey thighs combo quickly dethroned Orange over-perm as the reigning DC teen sex goddess of the internet.
Comics Raven's haggard demon witch look is best left in the Mortal Kombat/Injustice universe where it belongs.
That said, somehow DC comics is incredibly slow to understand the full appeal of the modern incarnation of Raven and continuously churn out one disappointment after the next in an attempt to cash in on the character's new-millennial appeal.
>Oh right! she's a teenage girl! Give her a tramp stamp! Send her to high school! No wait, make her an actual bird now! -- that attends high school!! Awww she just wants to be a normal girl!!
Fucking *puke*
TTvJL was the best attempt yet at characterizing her, but that was a horrible schizophrenic botch job of a movie that only barely managed to tell the only storyline Raven has and even here her design was terribly mediocre.
Honestly, these threads really are best as image dumps. There's nothing to discuss and I don't particularly care for a resurgence of Raven fanfic threads.
No thanks.

She had better chemistry with Cyborg in the original show, so that's not saying much.
I'll never fully understand BB and Raven. I mean, I get that shippers are just going ship everything no matter what, but why it's THE Raven ship that roughly 80% of the fanbase gravitates to is just beyond me.

>>84128918
>>84129529
Oh, no, I get that much.
I also get the appeal of the happy-go-lucky cheerful character being paired off with the morose solemn character, who will teach them the ways of laughter and good cheer and all that crap. I actually like the "opposites attract" trope. But why it's the most famous of the ships just eludes me.
Raven and Starfire got a full episode devoted to their relationship in season one, and sure, that ship has its fans, but it's still buried under the BBRaven shippers.
Even Raven and Cyborg got one with just the two of them, but that ship is practically nonexistent.
Robin got a whole season of polishing up his dick for Raven, and while they also have their followers, it's still a minority when compared to the BB clan. Granted, Robin has the official Starfire ship, but BB also had an official thing for Terra, and even THAT seems to take a backseat to Raven and BB.
Again, I fully understand the appeal of the ship, just not the strength behind it.
>>84129828
Raven (from the TV show) having any sort of romantic chemistry with anyone seems really out of character for me. I mean, the girl whose happiest thought is "thinking about you shutting up" just doesn't look like she'd mesh well with anybody, especially someone as loudmouthed as Beast Boy.

I respect those who enjoy BBRaven, and under a proper writer who can write both characters well, I might even be able to get behind it.
But given the biggest source of BBRaven these days is TTG, I'm not holding my breath for my mind to be changed.
>>84130154
In the show, she's supposed to be the tragic hero who is swayed onto the darkside due to her complex personality.
In reality, she's more of a bipolar nutcase who turns on the people who took her in as practically family for the guy who was clearly a psychotic mass murderer, for no adequately explained reason.
In the comics, she's just evil, and people like evil.
>>84130257
>bipolar nutcase
This. Just think: She probably slept around with skeezy fellows just to have a place to sleep that wasn't infested with rodents or insects. You don't want to dip your pen in that kind of ink.
>>84129828
People ship non-canon things all the time, up to the point where the Pokemon wiki has a whole list of ships between characters that never even met.
I think for most people they just see
>These two characters have a pretty solid friendship
>Therefore, I think it's possible for them to have a solid romantic relationship at some point in their lives
People who go through the series and list off every interaction as some sort of romantic moment are being more than a tad ridiculous though.
>>84130002
I think it's because Beast Boy was the character she interacted with the most, and a lot of people have a real soft spot for the whole opposites attract thing.
I myself like it because I feel like Raven is the kind of person who would need a lot of warmth and reassurance in a relationship. Granted, Cyborg and Starfire can provide it too, but I just like BB being with her the most because I enjoy that kind of friendly bickering and teasing a lot. Reminds me of my own relationship with my ex.
That's also why I feel like her and Damian just doesn't work. They have a lot in common, but Damian isn't all that great at comforting people. Maybe with some character development, but that doesn't exist for animated Damian since he's back to square one with every movie.
And that's my ramblings on the matter.
>>84130483
I suppose I can understand BBRaven a bit better over RavenStarfire if you place the friendly teasing in on the picture.
I'd argue there's nothing really "friendly" about Raven's quips in the show, but I guess you can read a lot into episodes such as Nevermore and the one where BB turns into a werewolf or sasquatch or whatever that was.
Personally, if I had to choose a ship, I'm firmly on the RavenStarfire side of things. I think Raven has a stronger "older sister"-type relationship with her, of a more experienced and bitter senior getting together with a more innocent and idealistic junior. I guess you'd call it the "senpai" effect? I don't know.
Starfire is also equally in tune with her emotions as Raven is, just the complete opposite: she embraces them, whereas Raven shuns them, so I think there's a lot of potential for both characters to learn from one another there.
At the very least, it makes more sense than RobinStarfire in my eyes. I never got why those two got together in the show, outside of it being a thing in the comics years before.

>>84130669
My thinking is that because Raven does acknowledge the others as being wonderful friends, and that she doesn't do it when she first meets them, that her quips are generally meant to not be taken completely seriously.
But that could just be how I relate to the character and interpreting how she interacts as being like how I am with my friends and was with my ex.

>>84130950
I've never had the pleasure of watching the origins episode (or the entirety of season five, to be honest), unfortunately, so I can't say much about how she acts towards people there.
But, hey, the original TT show was so frustratingly vague with everything it did, you can come up with all sorts of headcanons and alternate character interpretations, so... eh, more power to you if that's how you feel the character is.
>>84131142
I'll be honest, when I started reading the actual comic books, I was fully expecting not to like original Raven. I was pleasantly surprised, however, and the NTT version was equally interesting in her own unique way.
And then they turned her into a generic teenager character and lost all of that charm, while capturing none of the show's version's.
It can be suffering being a Raven fan sometimes.

>>84131351
Same artist?
>>84131293
>I've never had the pleasure of watching the origins episode (or the entirety of season five, to be honest)
People are generally down on the fifth season but I think it's really good. The origins episode is great, Brotherhood of Evil was good, and the second to last episode is easily Beast Boy's shining moment in the entire series and was what really sold me on the character being my second favorite.
Serious time BB is fantastic.
>>84129544
>It's canon too.

>>84110968
Hopefully never.
how is the old teen titans show? I remember watching it as a kid, but has it aged well?
>>84131737
I'd still watch it, if only for completion's sake.
I mean, truth be told, I don't even LIKE the show as a whole.
It has some good episodes sprinkled throughout it, and the animation can be outstanding at times, but it also features good ideas being poorly utilized (if not downright horribly used), practically nonexistent characterization that will stick to a character, selective continuity, and a severe case of Bat-godmode at times.
It's a very strange love(hate relationship I share with the show: I look back at it fondly for the character concepts, but disgust over how they were handled.
>>84131852
They did after Beast Boy became leader of the Titans, I think.
>>84131907
On a completely personal opinion: I don't think it was that good to begin with, when you consider the Justice League shows were coming out at the same time.
However, if you're looking for fun and silly superhero shenanigans without needing too much thought put into viewing, it's still a solid show.
If you're looking for something with a little more meat in its bones, I'd tread carefully. Still give it a second watch because some episodes are worth it. At the very least the first season. Mad Mod is still an incredible episode.
>>84130257I secretly ship robin and ravenfrom the old teen titans show
I like it when raven in TTG wears robins uniform and cape
that might be less about the ship and more about my love for wardrobe swaps
>>84131907
It's alright. The early episodes can be a bit tough, but once they find their groove and the best ratio of goofy anime faces to actual stories and stuff, it gets better.
I think it''s one of those shows that gets progressively better as it goes along
>>84131852
They got back together right when the New 52 happened and it left off with the implication that they were likely going to be a very long-lasting relationship. I still think it's really lame we basically got cheated out of seeing their actual relationship twice.
I don't know if they'll bring it back with Rebirth, ignore it entirely, try to do some love triangle with them and Damian or what.

that's something that can be argued for the first show, although I'd say there's definitely romantic chemistry between them in Go, even if it's unlikely to go anywhere

that outfit on Raven looks like one of the alt costumes for Juri Han in SFIV.

>I just like BB being with her the most because I enjoy that kind of friendly bickering and teasing a lot.
So BBRae is basically the same glue as the Ben10 cousincest ship?

>/co/'s love for Raven is superficial and only stems from the god-tier 2003 show design
you right, but I just want to make it clear that she has way more potential to her character than anyone has ever fully explored.
She's someone who protects the world by denying her own natural existence and expression. Furthermore, her powers are all about controlling herself and converting that chaos into constructiveness and good. If you think about it, that's a really powerful motif in a story, and something that a lot of people can relate to.
It kind of mirrors the fact that a lot of people have to put up a mask and hide their real feelings so that the world (parents, spouses, friends) isn't burdened by their own suffering. Also, Raven more so than the others is a character that is fundamentally unhappy with herself, and although she can, through constant focus and discipline, manage to use her powers for good and without hurting anyone, it's always implied that this is fragile at best and she's inevitably forced back into her room to control it. This is kind of like how a lot of teenagers are growing up, and they have self-esteem issues because their parents would basically over-dramatize when they did something wrong so now anytime they sound awkward or don't get an A or don't achieve their goals they are just really hard on themselves and are easily discouraged so they end up in their room most of the time listening to music or watching cartoons or playing videogames or browsing the internet to make themselves feel better so that they can face the world again. And after enough of this happens, people tend to think of the kid as being antisocial or having weird, obsessive interests and this is pretty much how Raven appears to everyone initially.
So yeah, I mean I may be reading into it a lot, but I think there are some really powerful narratives you could go with Raven, and we would see more of that if the cream actually rose to the top in comics.

I'm pretty sure it was a joke, but after Wally T, it might as well be canon.
Speaking of, does anyone have screenshots or gifs of Raven making cat faces and growling or of Wally liking Raven's legs?
