To be fair, when you're doing a film where the primary purpose is "we're getting a bunch of characters together," the reason why tends to err on the simplistic side so the character dynamics can take center stage. "We need to get the MacGuffin so the bad guy doesn't" is a simple enough plot that you can effectively ignore it because that story isn't the draw, it's the characters that are following it. It's the reason why Guardians of the Galaxy did it, it's why The First Avenger did it. This is gonna be the first real appearance of Cyborg, Aquaman and the Flash in this continuity, so they need to sell us on both them and the group's interactions with each other. The plot was going to be pretty simple no matter what.

They're copying incredibly old, generic plot points though. The MacGuffin is probably one of the oldest plot elements I can think of going back to the search for the Holy Grail. It's a generic plot because the interactions are what's gonna make it interesting (or not). They're trying to sell us on the characters, just like how in the first Avengers movie they were just trying to sell us on the idea of "these guys all interacting and working together is cool." It's important that they focus on the Justice League and not necessarily on anything other than them.

They're not exactly irrelevant per se, they've always been hinted to have immense power, in addition to their Boom Tube functionality. Speaking of, while we're on the subject of Cyborg in the DCEU or even just Cyborg as a whole, would anyone else want to see his cyborg technology portrayed kinda like Samus' Power Suit? Cyborg's body should have that sort of same 'sleek, yet highly mobile tank battle station,' look and feel that the Varia Suit has. I wouldn't mind if he got a little boost in power as well, since they want him hanging with the JL these days. And like Samus' armor, he should be highly adaptable as you said.

Nah, I don't like that aspect of the character. Ordinary things shouldn't be a hindrance to him and if anything, they need to make him more human or at least give him his sexual organs back. Let him be able to have sex and such.
Another, different direction I had with him was giving him a more biomechanical body: something like a way less horrific H.R. Giger work. Something where you couldn't tell where the technolgy began and where the human body ended. But again, not so much in a creepy H. R. Giger way. I think there's loads of stuff you could do with that. Push him in a more weird sci-fi direction and have him take on all sorts of crazy, out-there, Morrison-esque threats. If anyone could do something crazy with that, it's Morrison.
