The story of Gene, an emoji that lives inside a texting app on a teenager's smartphone. In Gene's world, each emoji has only one expression, but gene is different -- he's bursting with multiple expressions. Gene is worried that if he can't find a way to be "normal," he'll disappoint his family, or worse, be deleted. Determined to change his unusually expressive personality, gene needs a "code" that will fix his programming and make him like everyone else. With the help of his emoji friends, Gene's search takes him on a fun-filled adventure across the teenager's smartphone, from his hope in a texting app through a succession of apps (including a gaming app, a music streaming app, a photo-sharing app, a video streaming app, a dance app, and a file-sharing app).

It's like if you took the concept of Wreck-It Ralph and then applied the most formulaic animated movie plot possible while making sure to keep it as trendy as possible.

Sony is practically a parody of an entertainment company at this point.

Oh wait I'm thinking of Gunn on that one, I was just remembering a tweet Gunn made after the first Star Trek 3 trailer criticizing the film for shallowly trying to pander to the Guardians audience.

Jump Street proved that reboots of old franchises done by other accomplished writers could be successful, so Sony went crazy trying to find the right thing to revive.

That might sound crack-pot theory, but I do remember from the leaked emails that they were trying to start a Ghostbusters cinematic universe with a second male-led film written by the duo with Tatum in the lead role, plus the idea for Men In Black getting crossed over with 21 Jump Street.

Though if they were planning on doing a Ghostbusters film written by those two, why the hell didn't they put out that one first rather than the shitfest that we're going to get?

It's only going to get worse. This isn't even an 'old man yells at cloud' thing. It is literally fucking up humanity. Peoples' attention spans are getting shorter and shorter. We are literally losing the ability to interact with one another in person. We can't retain information we are given (as well as sort what is important and what is not). We don't think for ourselves anymore. Our emotions and thoughts are handed to us in the form of childish, bright-colored, and simplistic pictograms.

The internet is the best and worst thing to happen to humanity.

They made 21 Jump Street work, they made 22 Jump Street work, and MIB is actually a premise with potential.

Agreed. Like I know every single generation thinks the next generation is worse off, but there's no fucking way the instant gratification of the internet can be a good thing when you've had it since birth. We've never had anything close to the internet before and now anyone can have whatever they want in a moment's notice. They can look at something funny, find information, or contact another person in mere seconds. Kids don't understand how to handle just doing nothing because they rarely have to anymore. They always have something to occupy their attention span.
>>
Why? Oh why /co/?

Exactly. See below.

>>84085631

Nope. Not once. I'm 28, I was relatively okay with my generation, but this one behind me is fucking everyone up. And it's not just against the kids, it's the adults. The Internet gives them shared idea space now so we are blurring the lines with more and more adults acting exactly like kids. Like they've lost the ability to filter out what's mature, adult information and what's a kiddy fad to follow too.

I think "my" generation is stuck in the middle somehow. We're the generation that first adopted the Internet and wanted to keep it separate from real life. The younger generation and older generation somehow fucked that up.

>>84085344

Yeah which backs up my points above.

You know, I think maybe it's not a generational thing. I think maybe americans and first world er by proxy just really don't know how good they have it.
They really really don't know how worse things could be. When you're this well off I can understand filling your time with vapid shit if you've never known how precious your time and health really is, when you've never walked around a puddle of blood where your friend died or when you've never had to be afraid if you'd make it home when it gets dark or when you've never had to go many days without food because there just isn't any food around, or never been worried you just won't be able to live where you're at because rent gets worse and every other place is a literal brick house ghetto.
