Well that was awful.
I don't understand what "rendered in real time" means, but this looks really good. If there were a series that managed to consistently pump out this kind of quality, on top of good writing, then yeah, this could very well be the future of animation.

It means the engine used, Unity, is displaying these elements by generating them in real time. If this were a videogame, this would be gameplay and not a pre-rendered cutscene that was just being shown to you. This movie was made solely to show that the Unity engine is pretty powerful, because it has bad stigma for being "3D Flash" when it first popped up.
