Something written by King finally sells well!
>>
Wow, this manage to defeat black Panther # 1, good Job Dc

HOWEVER

Will next month dc comics manage to defeat civil war # 3?
>>
>>84009650
Wow, I'm curious what the best selling issue of all time is.
>>
I'm honestly happy for King, wish him the best of luck.

Also, kind of glad that it beat Black Panther. I love the character, but honestly, I'm not impressed with what I've read so far.

It's sad because it's his weakest work so far.

But hey, Batman is always gonna sell.

It's good. People may go and seek out his other work so there's a chance Omega Men will become a classic

6 covers by Jim Lee that link together to make one huge picture is what happened. Plus it was the 90s and the speculator boom was happeing

>Will next month dc comics manage to defeat civil war # 3?
Next month, DC is releasing:

Batman 2
Batman 3
Batgirl 1
Batgirl and the Birds of Prey 1
Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps - Rebirth
Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps 1
Justice League - Rebirth
Justice League 1
Nightwing - Rebirth
Nightwing 1
Superman 2
Superman 3
Titans 1

Any of those are either guaranteed or are solid bets to outsell Civil War 3.
>>
>>84009834
It was the height of the 90s speculation market and #1 reboots

Also:

>It is estimated that somewhere between 3-4 million copies were actually sold.[7] The sales figures were generated in part by publishing the issue with five different variant covers, four of which showed different characters from the book that combined into a tetraptych image, and a fifth, gatefold cover that combined these four, large numbers of which were purchased by retailers, who anticipated fans and speculators who would buy multiple copies in order to acquire a complete collection of the covers.
>>
It coulda been something worthwhile, like Sheriff of Babylon, Carnage or Manifest Destiny. But no, it's gotta be fucking Batman.

>>
Fucking how? It was a garbage issue with a thin story and hideous dialogue and nothing Finch was doing was spectacular or unique. It was an entirely vanilla issue.
Was it because of the #1 on the cover?

This was a creatively hollow issue. Is that what plebs like or is this a speculative market thing?
>>
>>84009921
Not an argument ;)
>>
>>84009921

Oh I can't wait to hear this. Why are people stupid now, anon?
>>
>>84009940
It had a shitton of variant covers and movie hype, also the writer is a black lives matter lover or some shit
>>
>>84009874
Nothing else. First appearance of Acolytes, X-Men split in Blue and Gold teams.
But keep in mind that nineties were HUGE when it came to speculators, X-Men #1 happened little before Comic Crash.
>>

>>84009920
[spoilers]I have all four covers as well as the fifth gatefold variant.[/spoiler]
The gatefold variant was the best. The comic was printed on much nicer paper as well.
Each comic is probably worth less than the cover price now because 90s.

The hype from Civil War was real. A lot of black people felt like there was finally a real black superhero.

>>

Why did it sell almost double what New 52 Batman did and with no variants then?
>>
>>84009940

Yeah my hypothesis was that the progressive move would generate hype among the social justice crowd, but it seems weird to me that it would happen to such an extent. Are there really that many people who would read a series based solely on the race of the character and author.

>>
>>84009988
As with most DC comics these days, it was an absolute work of art. Do yourself a favor and go buy the issue ASAP before you get spoiled. The way Finch makes use of a 3x3 grid is brilliant and King is bringing his A-game as always to present Bruce and his supporting cast as fully-realised characters.

It's the first step in what is sure to be one of the greatest comic runs in history.

God damn I hate how much DC is propping up King. It's mediocre and awkward and clumsy and there are way better people they could have put on Batman #1. This was a corporate move to put light on unremarkable talent.
King is probably happy with how this is doing but joke's on him, DC is just preparing him as the sacrificial lamb for when sales dip and Johns and co. do another reboot. King is a tool, his readers are tools, it's all fucking gay.

Because New 52 pissed off a whole fuck load of people, so while it drew a lot of attention, it also caused a lot of people to actively avoid it.

Whereas this time around, they've gained a lot of goodwill in their attempt to bring back the people that were driven away from the New 52.

>>
>>84010068
Not really. These "sales" are from the publisher to the retailer (LCS). Retailers order however many books they think they can sell in their store from the publisher. We don't know how many people actually purchased the book from stores. Additionally, sales of Black Panther were tied to variant covers of Star Wars: Poe Dameron, so if the retailer wanted to get their hands on variants to sell they had to order additional copies of Black Panther. So there's likely a good amount of unsold excess Black Panther stock that's just sitting around in comic shops. The cost for those books were (hopefully) mitigated by however much the retailer was able to sell the variant issues for. For the Batman sales, this is pretty encouraging since we've had reports of retailers everywhere saying that they completely sell out of Rebirth books every time. So the vast, vast majority of those sales likely were actually purchased by customers and will bode well for future return sales.

Those are pretty discouraging numbers for Marvel. Civil War II #0 sold for 177k, which is a huge drop from that Secret Wars number. Hell, it wasn't even their highest selling issue of the year, and this is with a major movie. Their fanbase just refuses to purchase their cape products at the moment.

Oh maybe it was Batman fucking around with a plane instead of using his detective skills. Or maybe it was how nothing actually happens? Like if you break down the actual beats of the story you can see that it was stretched out and created an uneven pace. The plane is falling. The plane is still falling. The plane is still falling. Oh we got it into the bay and now Gotham and Gotham Girl are here.
The actual characterization of Batman is off by miles, as well. I could get into the numerous ways King's Batman acts out of character but what's the point? This isn't a thread with actual discussion it's another shill circle jerk.

Finch is just an art monkey, his art is so forgettable and ugly and really brings the story down, too.

Of all the things a Batman #1 could be this is the most bizarre and ridiculous story that could have been told. It is not good, it is not fun or clever or inspiring or thoughtful. It's dumb brute action for 20 pages that is building to a story which discourages individualism and courage. Telling readers they should just back off and let Batman/CIA handle things is so fucking repulsive.

All of DC's Rebirth titles are getting 2nd prints thus far. The Rebirth special itself is on it's third. Rebirth is doing really well for DC and I'm happy for them.

That was actually the lowest point in comic sales history.

Just before Marvel had a big event going on, so they had no huge books to launch quite yet. And no big launches from DC either, as Brightest Day was winding down.

For extra sadness, the #50 book that month (Incredible Hulk) sold just over 30k.

And that's why comics are they way they are today.

No they didn't. Why do you people keep echo chambering this? Watchmen was always set in the DCU. It was published under DC. Heres my copy to show you since you are clearly retarded and don't understand how The Bleed works.

So was The Invisibles, but it's not canon to the DCU, even after factoring in the Bleed.

Neither was Watchmen you stupid clod. DC is getting desperate so they're taking standalone material by genius creators and spinning it anew. Comics has always been fan fiction but the lack of respect for the properties they own is so painfully obvious.

This isn't a Hypercrisis thing this is just greedy bitches being greedy and using retards like King and Finch to strum up sales.

Artistic credibility: none.
Integrity: none.

>>84011252
They're actually talking about one store retailer who said that more customers bought Scooby-Apocalypse #2 than they did Civil War II #2.

I don't think the charts will reflect that, but it's still hilarious either way.
>>
>>84011656
>you people
u mad?
>>
>>84011317
No, it's just one retailer who reported that. I mean, I wish it's completely true but you know that stores will still order more of Civil War II over Scooby-Apocalypse.
>>
>>84011686
The article said about June sales, not May. It's just one retailer, so take it with a pinch of salt.
>>
>>84011686
That was for CW #0 and SA #1, while the claim was for CW #2 and SA #2. Are their sales datas out yet?
>>
>>84011451
Not completely true; Snyder's Detective Comics actually gained in sales (which was probably why they put him on the main book for the New 52).
>>
>>84011697
Kek Watchmen isn't some genius groundbreaking work. Have you ever even read it? It's only considered amazing cause it started the creator owned work platform and caused the Big 2 to take more chances. Only idiots that its baby's first decade reading comics think it's some sacred cow that can't be touched. If Moore had his way it would have been all of the main DC characters.

Damn I didn't see that coming given the comparison to the new 52 #1. And no incentive variants either (though there were some retailer exclusives). Nice.
