I know video game movies usually sink faster than a brick, but with all the advances to CGI, with recent examples likes Zootopia and the Angry Birds movie, a STH movie could actually be done pretty well.
The only question would be of the plot, because "get da emmerards" and "beat egg man" aren't linear, and the Metal Sonic one is already done.

If they focused on the one from Sonic 3 & Knuckles, they would have a decent length of plot to cut up and piece together.
I always loved how you start the game in your super form, flying past Tails in the jet, only to have it stopped by Knuckles and revealed that an even stronger power exists. The super emeralds were no joke. Gave Sonic the ability to wipe a screen of enemies just by double jumping? Someone earned the speed force.

My first memory of Sonic was playing the first game on that Sega Smash Pack for Dreamcast. I spent a good five years convinced that Sonic had a terrible, terrible soundtrack, because they fucked up the sound design for the port of Sonic 1.
I also fucking remember, Streets of Rage 2 is my favorite Genesis game, but for some reason my copy of the Smash Pack wouldn't play it. I could play Sonic Spinball all day, but no fighting in the streets. I was introduced to that series eight years late.
