It's entirely possible she's just squishy. Gems have weird body structures. I remember going through an analyzing everyone in that image when the episode first aired. I even posted a 1000+ hours in MS paint image explaining everything, but no longer have it.
There are several potential Peridots in there, although the one near the front is the most likely. There's also multiple gems that have appeared in flashback episodes or Cheeseburger backpack's holograms, which makes me think that they're not filler designs but will actually be used.
The most interesting ones to me are the three-spiked one at the front that we haven't seen before, and the gem with the flowing hair at the back that vaguely resembles Centipeetle's.

Yeah, but I think it's close enough for the difference to be written off as being due to simplification/abstraction considering it's an simplified/abstracted design overall, it's clearly not a normal cut gem shape so unless they're going to introduce an entirely new gem with an irregular but geometric shape (how many could there be?) Each of the Gems had outfit upgrades when they regenerated after they poofed.
Pearl's was the most prominent (having an entirely new set of clothes), while Garnet and Amethyst were fairly minor (Garnet had a slight change of color while Amethyst keeps her sleeves up).
They've already hinted about Peridot being curious about new clothing and wanting to have a star on her outfit since she's a Crystal Gem now.

There are several likely reasons for the fusion taboo.
One reason is that fusion is a battle tactic. Gems normally fuse to fight strong enemies, so seeing one will make a Gem think "there's a fight going on here" and possibly "these Gems are threatening me", even if it's someone like Garnet just walking around being a fusion.
Another is that it's seen as stepping outside of your assigned role. Gems are supposed to be very specific thing, and heterofusion could be seen as pretending to literally be someone you're not, defying the rules laid out by the Diamond Authority.
A less-discussed aspect, which is similar to but not the same as the previous one, is that a fusion Gem is strange and unfamiliar. The average Gem is pretty much defined by their gem type; they think of their caste as literally being who they are. If they're a part of Homeworld society, they'd be familar with other Gem castes as well; the average Peridot on the street would have a detailed knowledge of what a Ruby or Sapphire looks and acts like, even if they didn't know that one specifically, they would be familiar with their castes in general, so they'd see each other as something like close acquaintances. But show her something like Garnet, and she wouldn't know what the hell she was looking at; she'd see some weird person who looked a lot like a Ruby but clearly wasn't not one, and also looked like a Sapphire but clearly wasn't one of those either. And was also freaking huge. It would look like some weird pseudo-Gem thing that crawled right out of the Uncanny Valley.

That's likely just the effect of garnet being a bigger gem. If you notice, sardonyx's and sugilite's gauntlets look different from garnet's. And it's not like pearl's spear or amethyst's whip had any influence on their appearance. I believe with every fusion, the gauntlets become stronger.
